  1. We are in our second year with Axa and although all three policies did increase by about £50 annually, they paid for all Fin's problems last year and continue to pay for lifelong medication.

  6. Inquiry over ‘race-fix ring’ at dog track Daniel Foggo and the Sunday Times have done it again! Yet another piece of excellent investigative journalism has exposed ‘bung-taking and ring-fixing at William Hills Newcastle Stadium. http://www.timesonline.co.uk:80/tol/news/u...icle5162657.ece As a result a racing manager has been suspended and both William Hills and the NGRC have begun a full investigation. Sadly, the admission by greyhound trainer, Brian Clements, of having 23 dogs in 10 months ‘put down’ will be of little concern to the government but illegal betting practices most certainly will be. In the past fortnight we have been witness to • Greyhounds being slaughtered at a knackers yard • The BGRB being unable to account for Walthamstow dogs • Horrific injury statistics, which would amount to at least 1 greyhound every week being destroyed at Belle Vue • Yet more healthy greyhounds being disposed of • Race fixing and backhanders TIME TO CALL FOR THE ABOLTION OF COMMERCIAL GREYHOUND RACING AND THE FRAUD, CORRUPTION, DRUG ABUSE AND ANIMAL EXPLOITATION THAT IT PERPETUATES! www.greytexploitations.com

  8. Where are Walthamstow's ex- racers? 05.11.08 Greyhounds UK have an excellent letter published in today’s Racing Post, announcing the publication of their Walthamstow data. Dear Sir Walthamstow closure Today Greyhounds UK has published its analysis of the greyhounds which ran at Walthamstow shortly before it closed in mid-August to identify how many dogs have gone on to establish stable lives elsewhere. The data is on our website www.greyhounds-uk.org which has the facility to accept update information on any dog. We intend to do the same for dogs displaced by the closure of Reading racetrack. This analysis concentrates on the 399 dogs of Walthamstow-attached trainers and is entirely factual. It contains no judgments and uses only information publicly available or from anyone having direct knowledge of specific dogs. The initial results of this analysis were passed to all relevant trainers, kennels, the BGRB, NGRC, and RGT and any comments received have been included. So what did we find? Broadly, 60% of the dogs have definitely established stability elsewhere. However, 38 dogs have not been seen in public since Walthamstow closed; the remainder have not raced with a frequency likely to pay their keep for two and a half months. This is very worrying in itself without considering the future viability of dogs displaced at other tracks by ex-Walthamstow arrivals. What we have done for Walthamstow is the product of the efforts of one Greyhounds UK analyst in his spare time on a home computer – literally one man and his dog. So why hasn’t the greyhound industry, with all its money and resources, done full analyses of the destination of every dog at every track – and published the results? This week’s disclosures in the Sunday Times of the ending of the lives of discarded greyhounds in such ruthless and shameful fashion should make the promoters and bookmakers realise that they have to sign up to openness and guarantees for the dogs’ futures if their businesses are not to be overwhelmed with sleaze. If the Greyhound Board of Great Britain is to be any different from its secretive predecessors, it must get a grip on this issue. Yours faithfully Annette Crosbie To view the analysis of Walthamstow track closure please click here http://www.greyhounds-uk.org/

  10. Please forward and cross post far and wide ~ Thank you It is with mixed emotions that we alert you to this brilliant piece of investigative journalism, yet again by Daniel Foggo of the Sunday Times. Despite a sense of relief that this widespread practice has finally been exposed, we also feel enormous revulsion and despair – ‘shell shocked’ is an understatement. It appears the racing industry has been crudely disposing of their surplus greyhounds, as always, very cost effectively The highly unethical slaughtering of healthy greyhounds and the selling of their warm body parts for profit was hugely distasteful and we questioned, earlier this year, ‘Is this the end to the exploitation – what do you think happens to the carcases’? Well perhaps the answer is to be found at Matt Waller’s knacker's yard. Click here to read this disturbing article and leave an online comment – please remember to be polite. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/a...?Submitted=true Please also send an email of thanks to Daniel Foggo for his continued support of the campaign and for daring to confront and expose this highly profitable but unethical and exploitative industry. 13. The film that motivated GA's campaign We have received the message below from one of our supporters. This film was one of the major motivations that led to the launch of Greyhound Action's campaign to put an end to the greyhound racing industry. Note the prophetic words, at the beginning, of greyhound vet Paddy Sweeney:- "How many more thousands of greyhounds are going to be smashed up until the animal libbers get in on this act? They'll start campaigning against it and greyhound racing could be banned". Since the film was made, attendances at greyhound racing have plummeted and over 20 UK commercial dog tracks have been forced to close. Our campaign will continue until all of them are gone. ________________________________________________________________________________ _________ 1993 On-The-Line: Cradle to Grave (BBC2) Using undercover tactics, journalists investigate cruelty in greyhound racing in both the UK and Ireland. All essential aspects of the greyhound racing industry such as over breeding, training with live bait, staggering injury figures, doping, vivisection and export to Spain are brilliantly portrayed in this award winning documentary. Seven people were convicted of animal cruelty as a result of the investigation. Yet the most shocking feature of this daring film is that despite being made 15 years ago it remains as relevant now as it has ever been before. part 1 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_XbP-yI3NEg part 2 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lMQQ094lVD8 _______________________________________________ Website: www.greyhoundaction.org.uk MySpace: www.myspace.com/greyhoundaction Donations: www.greyhoundaction.org.uk/donations.html

  15. WELFARE ‘HAS GONE TOO FAR’ CLAIMS GREYHOUND TRAINER Professional trainer Martin Dowman, formerly attached to Doncaster stadium has been found in breech of NGRC rule 174(xi) in that he ‘has treated a greyhound or caused or permitted a greyhound to be treated with cruelty or in such a manner as to cause the greyhound unnecessary suffering’. During a routine inspection on 2nd April 2008 by an NGRC Steward, a young black female named Pearly Black aged only 15 months, was found emaciated amongst Dowman’s kennel stock of 28 greyhounds. According to Dowman, the greyhound had not been eating properly since an earthquake tremor 3 weeks previous and described her as a “very nervous bitch.†Despite being an experienced trainer of 15 years, he saw no need to seek professional help and allowed Pearly Black’s health to deteriorate over the following weeks. After being forced to seek professional help by the NGRC steward and upon the advice of a veterinary surgeon, Pearly Black was immediately put-to-sleep. According to Dowman, the NGRC believe the puppy should have been euthanased sooner. When asked about the inquiry and the ‘extenuating circumstances’, Dowman said: “These things shouldn’t happen but we’ve never sought of experienced an earthquake and things like that… I went down to the Inquiry because I thought they were going to crucify me.†Despite being reprimanded and fined £650 Dowman was “quite happy with the verdict.†And added: “This welfare problem now is in some respects gone too far… It’s hard always for trainers and owners… we all can’t have a Derby dog, if we could it would be brilliant.†Dowman is the fifth trainer this year to receive a fine and reprimand for causing unnecessary suffering. None of the five trainers had their licenses revoked or were bought before the public courts to face charges of cruelty under the Animal Welfare act. It appears that not only does the racing industry have a license kill; they also have a license to abuse. Rest in Peace Pearly Black January 2007 – April 2008 www.greytexploitations.com
