Super little Snowy is a 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier who came into our care because his owner had died. He is in a foster home in Hertfordshire.

Lovely character: Snowy is a great little chap who loves being stroked and is very happy to jump up and sit on your lap if allowed. He is an affectionate lad.

Look, I'm snowy white all over!

Snowy's perfect home: Snowy will make a wonderful companion for an active older person as this is the type of life he is used to. Snowy is used to a home where he is the only dog and where there are no children and it seems as though he would probably be happiest with this arrangement. Someone with experience of the terrier temperament would be perfect for Snowy

Out and about: Snowy is still a fairly active boy who enjoys his walks and likes to interact with other dogs. He stays on his lead due to being deaf and not seeing too well. He is very good on the lead. He is also good in the car and settles after a few minutes.

Used to cats: Snowy has lived with a cat in the past and so, with careful introductions, he should be fine to live with a cat in his new home. You might be interested in our Dogs and Cats article.

Around the home: Snowy is generally fine around the home and he settled into his foster home within a couple of days. He is OK to be left alone for a few hours. He doesn't like to be shut away in a separate room though. When he first arrived in his foster home, he marked his territory, probably due to stress, but this has gradually decreased and now seems to have stopped.

Loves his food: He is a great eater and will eat his dinner pretty much straight away every time. Due to his lack of hearing and poor sight, Snowy defends his food and treats if you approach him suddenly and startle him, but he will probably be fine in this respect once settled again into a quiet home.

Health notes: Snowy seems to be in fairly good shape for his age. He is quite deaf and almost blind in one eye, and he has medication for a heart murmur. He had a bad flea infestation when he arrived and has created a raw patch due to the irritation. This is being treated and responding well. He is vaccinated, wormed and flea-treated and will be microchipped and neutered.

Foster carer's summary: Snowy is a lovely companion and would make a great friend for someone.
