Happy is a 12 year old Yorkie cross who was rescued from appalling conditions in Ireland. She arrived in the UK at the end of November 2009 and was temporarily kennelled so that she could be assessed and receive proper veterinary treatment. You can read more about her in our news story here.

Happy is now in an Oldies Club foster home near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire where she settled very quickly. She was a little picky with her food whilst in kennels, but her foster family say she's now very eager at mealtimes and hasn't refused anything yet. Her little tail is always wagging in anticipation!

Happy is described as cute, cuddly and friendly … oh and she's very happy too of course! She's a confident little girl who really enjoys company. She doesn't mind being left alone though, for up to 4 hours, and she'll quickly settle down in her bed.

Happy is clean in her crate and she will toilet outside, but some further observation is required to perfect her housetraining. She's good in the car and doesn't mind travelling.

Happy is good with other dogs and doesn't seem at all worried by larger or more active ones. She currently lives alongside three collies in her foster home. She hasn't met any cats yet, but she's quite an amenable girl so would probably accept them without any problems.

There are no children in Happy's foster home, but she seems to love everyone so her foster carer believes she'd be fine with sensible children. Happy sometimes asks to be picked up so she may prefer to be with older children who can pick her up without causing any discomfort (7yrs +).

Happy is good on a lead and can manage short walks, contentedly pottering along beside you. She doesn't have any recall yet, but she's still learning her name and she does tend to stay fairly close to you anyway.

Happy's foster family say;

Happy adores her cuddles and will paw you to request a fuss. She likes to sit on a lap or be lifted onto a comfy chair - anything cosy is acceptable though. She's a very relaxed little lady and even enjoyed her examination at the vets!

We think she would appreciate a home where plenty of attention could be lavished on her. She was rescued from very poor circumstances in Ireland and now seems to be making up for lost time. She is really enjoying life now she is in a home environment and is very easy to look after, lapping up any love and attention on offer.

Can you resist such a cute little face?

Happy has been spayed and she's vaccinated, microchipped and flea and worm treated. She's recently had a number of teeth removed, but her mouth is fully healed now and she has no problems eating wet or dry food.

Her back legs have slipping patellas and this causes her to have a slightly unstable gait. She's currently on pain relief (Meloxidil) for this. She also has an inactive mammary tumour, but the vet has advised that this is best left alone for now.
