greytgirl
I have been walking Max regularly now since last October, he is a BIG male 4 year old rotty boy..he is Gorgeous. His owner has made the heartbreaking decision to rehome him so he can have the time and love he deserves. Max is an outside dog and has lived outside all his life. He is in a nice big kennel but is not housetrained. He is BIG and bouncy, he hasnt been socialised very much but is fine with other dogs of all sizes, although very excitable..but all he wants to do is play and make friends..he forgets his size He is VERY friendly but too much sometimes but I put that down to not having that much company that when he does he is just SOOOOOOOOOO happy to see someone... He is NOT mistreated but left quite alot so I think all these little things could be rectified very easily by someone experienced with a dog of this nature and size. Max is 4, not been neutered BIG, friendly...trained in many basic aspects and good with recall and basic commands. Pulls on the lead quite a bit..but again I feel with time and patience this could be easily overcome. NOT housetrained. My daughter comes with me and her friends...to walk Max, they are all 8 and under..he is BRILL with them, but can jump up with excitement. He is walked with various dogs with me and let off his lead, he is fab with them BUT like I said likes to play so if he see's another dog he will run to it, I get him on his lead, walk on a bit and let him off again and he is fine. He is in Wigan, North West...errrr cant think of much more... Any suggestions..help please?? Hope I have posted in the right place. Will get a pic up tomorrow if this is ok? greytgirl
Max is still looking, unfortunately Ellie's owner felt it wouldn't be the right thing to take on Max as when he was in her back garden and rolling on his back she went to stroke his belly and he growled. Max as never shown any form of agression to me or my dogs, child in over a year. I can only think she shocked him maybe? he felt a threat as he ws on his back in strange surrounding with a stranger stood over him?? He really is such a lovely. loving and friendly boy, just needing someone to spend some time with him and a nice indoor home..well outdoor as he is used to that but I would so love to see him living indoors actually having some company and attention I fear he will end up a guard dog or in the wrong hands.. western star
Hi - if this was me, I'd be getting back in touch with lady as Rotties can be very vocal, was it a threatening growl or just a kind of 'oooo I like that' kind of growl, as in a purr? I only have to stroke my Rotts head and she 'growls' but I know her body language and the way she 'speaks' to me, and she is saying 'carry on mum, that's nice' It's very hard to advise when not in situ, I really hope it works out for him he looks a lovely boy
greytgirl
I fear Max's situation is getting worse, he is becoming more grumpy and less tolerant of people apart from me and my hubby, I think this is due to the lack of socialisation and company or interaction with anyone I can see the worst coming...pts or basically this is it now for him, left in that back garden for the majority of his life alone. I wish I could do something, he really is a lovely boy, just needs someone with some experience and time to give him What a waste of a big beautiful bonny boy

I have, no room at the inn Im afraid. any chance of getting him vet checked just in case the grumpiness is caused by something medical? I will mention this but tbh I would imagine its down to lack of socialisation and company, I think it would drive anyone to be a moody buggar but I will politely suggest this as he hasnt mentioned a change in him, its what I have observed Thanks for the replies guys
blackmagic
It could have been the 'Rottie Rumble' also called the Rottie purr. Have a search on Google, you'll find lots of references to them doing this when getting a belly rub.
blackmagic
You could try Second Chance in Fife who have Rottie experience and have helped several Rotties from England. Transport can usually be organised. http://www.secondchancekennels.org/
