Brindlebabe
PLEASE CROSS POST- FORWARD ASAP HIGH PRIORITY - VERY URGENT APPEAL – HIGH PRIORITY We have received information that ITV News will be covering a live debate at Walthamstow this evening Thursday 31st July between 6.00 -7.00pm MP's who have supported Walthamstow's reprieve will be promoting the 'Save the Stow' campaign along with representatives of the racing industry. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=B4_MqflmVWY It has been suggested that an offer over and above the recently publicised sale price of £31.5m has been made by Australian millionaire Richard Codd, together with two other financial backers. Regardless of whether the offer is accepted, a back-up plan to lease the stadium from the new owners, K W Linfoot, Yoo Capital and London and Quadrant Housing Trust has also been discussed. As yet, Greyhound Action has NOT been invited to contribute to the debate and we therefore desperately need your voice to defend the voiceless greyhounds and condemn this 'killing field' once and for all. Please email ITV and question whether a debate should be held at all, in the absence of greyhound welfare and protection groups? Please also highlight the obvious concerns that greyhounds are subjected to horrific injuries, which are sometimes fatal and also Walthamstow is responsible for the deaths of many of the 20 greyhounds that die every day in this industry as reported by the RSPCA. Please include links to Greyhound Protection Groups www.greyhoundaction.co.uk www.greytexploitations.com www.actionforgreyhounds.co.uk Please also enclose a link to the pictures of greyhounds which have been subjected to abuse and exploitation at Walthamstow in the last few months. http://greytexploitations.com/resources-an...tow-greyhounds/ If you prefer you can copy and paste the sample email below Sirs I understand that ITV intend to cover a live debate regarding the revival of Walthamstow Stadium. A stadium, which to quote their present owners, is forced to close because 'attendances and betting turnover on-course have declined dramatically'. Clearly the public have voted with their feet and no longer wish to support a 'circus' that exploits companion animals for entertainment or simply to be used as a betting medium. Surprising then, that ITV choose not to include the issue of 'welfare' in this live debate. The very issue which will have influenced the 'dramatic decline' in attendances. However, I feel it is my duty to speak on behalf of the greyhounds, these graceful creatures, these voiceless tools of the industry's trade. Please look at the greyhounds in this link. This is the reality of the 'Walthamstow Greyhound' and greyhounds are expected to race in these conditions. http://greytexploitations.com/resources-an...stow-greyhounds Fatality numbers are impossible to ascertain but many of the reported 20 greyhounds that die each and every day in the regulated sector of greyhound racing will have suffered whilst being raced to their death at Walthamstow. Greyhound Action reports, due to the culling necessary, because of over breeding and the destruction of surplus greyhounds, Walthamstow, along with the 30 other NGRC tacks can be held responsible for the deaths of over 500 greyhounds every year. Please link to these greyhound protection groups and consider why the issue of 'welfare' should not be a priority in this debate or indeed whether this debate should be aired at all. www.greyhoundaction.co.uk www.greytexploitations.com www.actionforgreyhounds.co.uk Kind regards Email address [email protected] As always, please keep all correspondence polite and many, many thanks for your continued support. ReikiAnge
Did anyone see the live debate? I didn't manage to catch it. Just reading the article on the BBC site: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7535259.stm which claims developers are unlikely to accept the offer to keep the stadium going. Let's hope. And as for Barry Clegg thinking the exploitation and death of thousands of greyhounds is a great sport
Abigailj
Have just had an email about it from Greyt Exploitations, thanking everyone for emailing etc. It also said that, although the coverage still went out, the program was greatly reduced and rather than a live debate taking place, ITV chose to televise a pre-recorded interview. For those of you who were unable to view the news item, please click here http://www.itvlocal .com/london/ news/?player= LON_News_ 15&void=218231 Disappointingly, welfare was not covered but we can draw strength from the fact that and our voices in speaking for the greyhounds will have been heard loud and clear throughout the corridors of ITV. Yet again, the influential media will now be more aware of the public’s concern and outrage that the greyhound racing industry still receives promotion, whilst welfare issues are not aired, thus presenting a totally inaccurate view to uninformed public. BBC also ran a small article of the ‘Save Our Stow’ campaign http://news. bbc.co.uk/ 1/hi/england/ 7536255.stm Unlike the ITV article, this gives a more optimistic view on the stadiums reprieve, so it is vitally important to continue to support the current appeals that are aimed at the new developers and politicians.
