Precious - Pituitary Dwarf Gsd

Precious is a 2 year old, female GSD looking for a home via GSD Rescue Scotland. She is being fostered by me in Newcastle upon Tyne.

She is KC registered and full pedigree but she looks and acts differently because she is a Pituitary Dwarf. This is a condition she was born with, affecting her pituitary gland. The condition causes greatly reduced growth, hair loss, dark pigmentation and a reduced life expectancy. The average life expectancy for pituitary dwarf sheps is 2-5 years, though there has been a recorded dwarf reaching the age of 12 years, Precious is not expected to reach double figures in age. However she is otherwise able to live a completely normal and happy life as a companion and much loved pet.

Precious has no medical needs other than protection from the elements - a warm jumper in the cold, a waterproof in the rain and a bit of lotion in the sunshine to protect her delicate hairless body from sunburn. She will continue to lose the hair on her body as she ages, though her head legs and tail will remain furred. This gives her the appearance of having a very large head & extremities, but she's actually well proportioned under there.

Precious is extremely affectionate and forms bonds very quickly with a favourite person. She loves to be stroked, tickled and snuggled and likes to lie with you on the sofa. She also enjoys her walks and likes to play a lot too. In both appearance and personality she is very puppy-like and will remain this way. She is bright and can sit and give a paw. She is polite and does not beg, is housetrained, clean and sleeps overnight in a crate. She is very good with other dogs, cats and any other animal. She has a very gentle and sensitive disposition and there's not a bad bone in her little body.

Precious is currently coming into season so will stay with me until she can be speyed. Pituitary dwarves have very irregular seasons - sometimes very often, sometimes only one at a very young age - and are prone to developing pyometra, so she will be neutered before rehoming.

Precious is looking for a loving home with someone around most of the time. Although she is okay to be left alone and is not destructive, she craves human companionship and with she certainly deserves it. She does like to play with other dogs so a home with at least one gentle but playful canine companion would be ideal. She needs a home where she'll be allowed to sleep on the sofa and share in all aspects of family life. She is relatively active and can keep up with other dogs on walks etc. She knows her name and would like to keep it.

Feel free to ask any more questions here or email me if you might be interested in Precious - all prospective adopters would be fully homechecked etc. [email protected]
