It doesn't sound good.

Try spraying some air spray into the fan it could be clogged up with dust. Failing that some fans can be replaced in laptops ask your local computer shop. A new fan is a lot less expensive than a new laptop.

My computer does this alot, it just seems to switch off randomly - could it be overheating, or just dying?!

 

Could be overheating, or could be on it's way out. If you feel the side of the pc where the air vents are does it feel hot and does it make a whirring noise - that points to the fan. Is it an old pc and what do you use it for ie does it have to process lots of applications at the same time? Do you have anti virus software?

 

I'm helping a lot aren't I - I may as well have said could be anything I dunno :wacko:
