    Barf

Glad to hear that you want to feed BARF - I'm sure you won't regret it. There's a group called BritBarf on yahoogroups.com which has info about suppliers etc and very knowledgable people who can answer questions about feeding. You need to join yahoogroups to join the group. It's very friendly. OOPS! just saw the other post about BritBarf - sorry.
  3. I feed my two a Barf diet. Pros and cons as above. More pros: They don't smell "doggy" Sweet breath "Hollywood white" teeth. Very healthy beasts. Easy to maintain correct weight Cons: can't think of many some vets will tell you that it's dangerous - choking on bones etc (mine have never choked even on fish bones) handling raw meat especially tripe makes me feel slightly sick Go for it - there's lots of raw feeders around who will give you advice
  4. My boy recently had the same thing - vet said chicken and rice until pooing normally. It took 2/3 days. Hope jess is better soon.
  5. Big meaty bones, I occasionally give them cows ears.
  6. We were learning doggy law at our dog club a couple of weeks ago and were told that dog poop can go onto the rubbish bin if it's double- bagged. So if you have bin bags it has to be just in a sealed bag if you have a wheelie bin it should be in two bags.
  7. We were called back to the vet again today but this time it was Como's turn to donate. He's a very excitable lad and just couldn't keep still so had to be sedated. This left him a bit spaced out for a couple of hours but fine after that. This time the blood was for a 10 - month old pup who'd had to have thoracic surgery. Very good news re the Lurcher who got Flo's blood, he's out of intensive care and doing well.
  8. We were surprised that Flo got a goodie bag for donating blood - we were only expecting the doggie equivalent of a cup of tea and a biscuit. She was very grateful for the squeaky toy but the treats have also gone down very well.
  9. It was on www.dogblooddonors.com There's a "How to become a donor" button which takes you to an online form.
  10. I registered my two as blood donors a few months ago. This morning I had a phone call from a large vet practice about 15 miles from me asking if I could bring them over to be tested. They were both "negative" which means that their blood can be given to any dog. Flo gave 500 ml today and received a certificate, a red heart shaped tag engraved, "blood donor", a squeaky dog toy and lots of treats. Her blood is going to a dog who is having surgery for an abdominal mass. I'm very proud of her!
  11. Poor old boy! Will he take food from your hand? I have heard it suggested to try flash frying raw food . Wish I could be of more help. Just found this in "Holistic Guide for the Healthy Dog" Wendy Vollhard and Kerry Brown Recipe: 1/2 pound beef or chicken liver 2 cups of spring wter Place in saucepan and bring to the boil. Stir until cooked, about 4 mins. Allow to cool. Put through a blender until it's a soupy mixture. Add more water if not soupy enough.. Feed 1/2 cup 2-3 times a day via a turkey baster - v small amounts at a time, v slowly into the side of his mouth with the dog's head parallel to the ground to prevent gagging. Once he starts to eat a little pour the soupy mix over his food. Do this until the dog is eating normally. I haven't tried this so can't vouch for it. Hope you find something that works. Another thought that maybe the move upset him so would Bach Flower Remedies help to get over it.
  12. I've just had to work hard to get weight back on my Spinone boy after a bad bout of diarrhoea. He's raw fed. I found that tripe and and breast of lamb were very good. He also likes full fat yogurt added to his meat and raw eggs and sardines in oil. There's a very good raw feeding site which has a health site alongside where there are lots of very knowledgeable people who may be able to advise you. You will need to join the group to access information-it's very friendly. Hope it's ok to give details here. www.yahoogroups.com Then look for BritBarf.
  13. My two love watching helicopters go over. They stop whatever they're doing and stand and watch until the helicopter has disappeared. They were just lounging by the front window, nice and relaxed watching the world go by when I heard the familiar chug, chug (lots of police choppers around here!!). They were outside like a shot , staring up into the sky. Strange beasts.
  14. You could try colloidal silver - it's a natural remedy. I've just used it on my 2 year old Spinone who had horrendous diarrhoea and it worked very well. Website for info is www.ukcolloidalsilver.co.uk
  15. Be warned the mud drops off really easily once it's dry - then it settles as grime throughout the house . My two are white and orange but i'd like a brown one to make a set. OH won't hear of it though.
  16. Spins4me here! I do agility with my two. My boy loves it and it's the best thing I've found for focussing him. He's totally without fear and throws himself into/over/through anything he's offered. My girl is a shy little soul when she's out and about and won't perform. Spinoni can be v stubborn but I still love 'em.
  17. Hiya!

Ill say hello so you dont feel lonely lol. Hope to see you monday xxxx

  18. On BBC London today it was reported that 3 dogs in Ham Common, Richmond have died after eating poison of some kind. Others have been taken ill but survived. The kind of poison isn't known.
  19. Mine have very "soft" mouths and carry their eggs around for a while, then drop them on the paving stones outside and look very surprised when there's some nice eggy-goo to lick up. They usually crunch the shells up afterwards.
  20. BritBarf is an excellent site. You might also want to look at www.raw4dogs.com where there is a calculator which tells you amounts to feed. Books - "Give your dog a bone" Ian Billinghurst is quite good but he does suggest veggies, dairy etc which I fed at first but don't now. Re defrosting - I don't defrost tripe chunks - I find it too revolting. The dogs are happy eating it straight from the freezer and haven't had any ill effects.
  21. Barbara needs to blog. I don't think so!!
