  1. The true soft latex toys are really hard to find now, they used to be everywhere - I think stalls at obedience shows used to do them years ago (am talking about 10 years ago though), as they are easy to place in the pocket when training. We have got an equally scary latex dragonfly - bet you've never seen one of those
  2. We have 2 come to the kennels for grooming and bathing every week - they do alot of shows and I know the woman has at least 2 more. Luckily I don't have to do the grooming
  3. Sort of the same - Canine Concepts
  4. We stay here: Saunton Sands Villas which is near Barnstaple. We usually have 6 dogs with us, and just take covers to put over the sofas and beds. We have the smaller type which means you can just walk across the car park and straight onto the dunes (Braunton Burrows), and then work your way over to the beach. Usually we take netting or windbreaks and place them across from our chalet to the neighbours, so that the dogs have an enclosed garden. Some of the larger chalets have enclosed gardens but would probably still need netting. Another bonus is that Tailends is just about 3 miles down the road in Croyde, so you could also offer yourself for dog walking duties if you had any spare time. We have been going for years and really enjoy it
  5. Well he's been home a few hours now and I don't think he knows that anything has happened. The only thing he notices occasionally are his bandages on his hind legs, so must make sure he doesn't take them off. He seems a bit restless now and would really like a run around - don't know how I'm going to break it to him, that he has to have lead walks for the next few days. Caught him and Fleet having a sneaky play earlier - luckily it was just lazy play laying down. One manic collie coming our way this week . Thank you for all your supporting kind words.
  6. Fleet has definately settled in and is very happy coming onto the bed for a cuddle (not that they're allowed on the furniture - honest ). We'll see !!!!!!!!!!
  7. Phoned at lunch time to see how he was, and of course he is fine. Am off in a mo to pick him up. With all the nerves I forgot he has also had his hind dew claws off aswell - double cuddles then . jacobean - theres another thread of my baby with our foster (couple more pics).
  8. Dropped my little boy at the vets this morning. It's amazing how nervous you can get for them, though I doubt Quizz will even notice anything has happened. I have taken the week off work so that I can be at home with him, for lots of cuddles. Lots of 'feeling better' thoughts would be very welcome
  9. I would also see if there is a pet shop near by that stock frozen meat (quite a few do). If you buy beef mince from the supermarket, make sure its frozen. There was an article about someones dog that ate some fresh raw beef and was critically ill and may never recover properly. I will try and find the article and post it. Basically there is a bug in fresh beef that doesn't affect humans but it does dogs. This bug is killed once the meat is frozen. I am not trying to alarm, but just be careful.
  10. Well, I couldn't resist any longer. Here are a couple of pics of my little boy Quizz (who is nearly 8 months ish) and our little foster Fleet (who is about 10 - 11 months). So cute (though I am biased). Edited to say - Fleet on the left, Quizz (tri) on the right.
  11. Some of the larger clubs have websites (or those with people who can do them). I think a lot don't bother because their classes are full. There are many independant clubs around this way. I live in Somerset (near Wincanton) but teach agility at Motcombe (between Gillingham & Shaftesbury), which isn't very far away. If you move near, you are more than welcome to join in with us.
  12. Where in the south west?
  13. I'll be there on Saturday, and will be helping in ring 6. Bit scared as it will be my first runs in Champ with the Dismal Dog.
  14. We've never had fleas on our dogs (luckily), not so lucky with ticks. We frontline about twice a year just in case. Garlic powder doesn't work (I would find the quote from the alternative medicine book I have, but not sure where it is), but proper garlic should do. We have 7 doglets at the mo, so would be a lot of garlic, so we tend to not bother. We may try it for the ticks next summer to see if it has a deterent effect. Ticks are the only downfall of having lots of lovely fields to walk the dogs in.
  15. Our local rescue has just taken in an 11 week old Rottie pup which has a docked tail. The tail is infected where it was done so badly - I don't think a vet did it - absolutely disgusting.
  16. In our free paper last week, there was an advert for cocker spaniel pups which had been docked. I thought it wasn't allowed any more?
  17. Love Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Herbert, Graham Masterton, Terry Pratchett, James Patterson and probably lots more that I can't think of at the moment. Recently read the new Harry Potter (of course ), the last book of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz (which was good), and now Forever Odd (again Dean Koontz). Edited to say : I've read Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, it was brilliant, though it may have made me a bit tearful.
  18. Humid and muggy here in Somerset, and the sun was out earlier.
  19. Where do I start..... Gem who is now 9 has always had a problem with contacts - as in, they kind of get in the way . She is mum's dog, but she had her hips replaced, so I took over training until she could run again. We didn't let Gem do any agility classes last year, just jumping which she loves. At training we set to work on the contacts, especially over the winter months. She has now done 5 agility classes this year, 4 of which have been clear, the other an E but got all contacts. I am so pleased with her. To top it off - she had about 66 points at Novice level at UKA in the jumping, but obviously no agility points. At the last 2 UKA shows (last one at Cornwall this weekend just gone), she has got a 3rd and 1st in agility, and is now Senior. Wot a little star. Next to Dizzy. She shot to Senior within 2 UKA shows when it first started. The last 2 years she has had injuries, keeping her out of agility for most of the season. Well she's been fit and well this year, and at the weekend she got the games points we needed to become Champion. Am a bit scared now that I have to play with the big boys and girls. Really should start trying to train waits , but maybe 7 is too old to bother. Anyway, they are absolute stars and have worked so well this year .
  20. I couldn't understand why she just didn't get another cat, instead of a dog
  21. I would second that. A lot of dogs chew their hindquarters when their anal glands are full.
  22. I live in Templecombe, a few miles from Wincanton. I'm only 27 , just well educated (or something like that ). Well the sun is shining at the mo, but I don't expect it will last
  23. I assume Quizz is using his ears as an antenna, trying to pick up the local radio station. It all started off fine, normal placed ears. Then they started to pick up the waves (looks slighty windswept). Then bingo, found the right station (this pic makes me laugh ). If you close your eyes and really try, you can pick up radio luxemburg (sp?) This one is just Quizz chasing his favourite squeaky duck at work, but he still needs to work on the braking part. And if you are all really bored now. This one is just because I like it, and he sat still long enough for me to take it My little boy who is now nearly 5 months
