  1. Hello, get in touch with fourpaws, FOAS, Hope rescue etc etc etc as there are always dogs that need doing. Fourpaws brought in a spaniel X with mats the size of a fist the other day.
  2. Baby Blue bear is on his way home. The vets amputated the leg and he stayed in over night
  3. Stupid question- have you looked into yoga? Im a natural worrier and stress myself out alot of the time, and i have found yoga has really taught me to relax and listen to my body. Ive only been to a few sessions but i walk away totally chilled and my head is clear, i did fall asleep completly in one lesson which was a bit embrassing. From the lessons ive learnt how to relax myself in every day life and how simple breathing techniques really calm my head. My body is coping with the stress alot better now and i sleep alot better too which helps!
  4. Thank you everyone for your kind wishes- Blue lovvvvvvvves people attention! (He's a bit of a tart with anyone who can rub his ears in the right place) He is currently trying to chase a tennis ball, and i feel evil taking all the toys away from him, he loves to play so much. We are waiting to hear back as to what the vet thinks is the right course of action. In a way i think amputation would be alot fairer. He is only 1 year old and being stuck on total crate rest for months on end would just break my heart. All he wants to do is to run and skip about with his doggy friends
  5. Our newest recruit is Blue (aka Robo-dog, pin leg, skippy, baby blue bear). Blue came to us after being left tied in a field with a badly broken leg, the person that found him took him to the PDSA where he was treated. Unfortunatly the womans other dog didnt get along with baby Blue, which is why he is our new foster dog. Our own vet took xrays and had a good look and decided to leave the pins in until he had heard back from the specialist. This morning when i got up there was alot of blood on the floor and after close examination of our 7 in-mates it turned out that the pin sites were bleeding quite heavily, so off we pottered to the vets this morning. Our own vet by this point had heard back from the specialist- there were lots of 'mmmm not good noises', 'not good at all' type sounds coming from the vet. To cut a long story short Blue is going in monday for another op, this may be to plate the leg, re pin it or possibly amputate the leg, depending on what is found to be best for Blue. So could everyone please send good thoughts to our beautiful young man, who isnt feeling so good and is stuck in a crate until monday

  7. Sorted Within about 30seconds they redid my policy. Not sure if i should still make formal complaint as it was their fault i have been driving my car uninsured
  8. A few weeks ago i recieved a letter informing me by my current car insurance company that i will need to send proof of my 1 years no claims discount. I phoned them and explained that they they were the company i was last insured with and they agreed that they had my previous details and that there was no need to send proof. I have just come back home to find 2 letters from them. One sent on the 27th of March (roughly the day that i spoke to them) that my policy would be cancelled on the 7/4/08. The next letter sent 2 days ago confirming that the policy was cancelled. I am fuming that i was led to believe that they did not need any previous documents and then cancelled my policy. Because i have been away for the previous 2 weeks i have been driving my car without insurance and not to my knowledge. Going to phone company tomorrow, but i cant even remember date of phone call so wont have a leg to stand on. I cant afford to take out a new insurance policy and i doubt they will recontinue old policy Any ideas as to the best way to complain about this?
  9. Taken from Channel4's documentary about the way children live today Adel, the father of 13-year-old Siad in central London, won't allow him to go out alone or with friends. Every day Sid is dropped at the school gates and collected again. Every evening, he plays on his computer but yearns to go and do things first-hand. His frustration is sparking rows within the family. Adel recognizes that his son may want more freedom but feels that children should never be left alone: "Kids get stabbed. Kids get slashed. Kids attack adults. There are lots of things kids can do when they get together. It is tough to be a parent, not like the old days when it was safe on the streets. Maybe I am over-protective. It's just tough love." But Siad feels Adel goes too far: "I don't like being spied on by my dad, it doesn't make me feel normal. He's always there, not just protective, but over-protective." Sam is a self confessed worrier. Her two children, 3-year-old Lilly-May and 10-year-Harry are the centre of her world and the focus of the most of her worrying. "I just go completely off a scale sometimes", she says, like the time she insisted on all the windows on the top floor of the house were closed in case someone snatched her children in the night. High profile missing child stories, like the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, help to fuel her anxiety. When nine-year-old Abi, goes shopping at home in Essex with her mum Toni, she is told that people they pass in the street may be potential abductors. Abi travels with her mother to see some new microchip technology that could offer a way to track her every movement for safety's sake. The observational stories are supported by a chorus of interviews with children, interspersed through the film, that suggest the climate of fear goes beyond a small handful of families. As one child states: "I just want to be safe. So I hear what mummy has to say. And trust me, that can be hard." There is a cautionary note to the film: 76% of parents believe there has been a dramatic increase in child murders but statistically there has been no such increase. (Families for Freedom, Advocacy group – 1998 Questionnaire). Yet, partly because of such fears, children today have less freedom than ever before; as Adel says: "My son doesn't have enough experience of the outside world" but for these protective parents, the perceived risks outweigh potential consequences. Do you think its acceptable for children to be growing up this way? Did you grow up this way? Do you feel microchipping children is acceptable? Channel 4 website
  10. Will that do? Hes not as scared of chickens as he is with rabbits
  11. Im only in Guildford!! We should meet on the meads, life without dogs is very strange.... ps. Chance sends his love
  12. Sadly, after a short illness, our beloved Sophie (one of our EGLR Sponsor Dogs) passed away this week. She was not in pain and was surrounded by her family both two-legged and four-legged. Sophie found a love and trust in her permanent foster carer that she had never allowed herself to experience before. Over the years, we saw her blossom from a worried youngster into a relaxed and beautiful lady. Sophie's foster mum has requested that those who know her allow her a period of grieving. She knows that our thoughts and love are with her. God bless and run free at Rainbow Bridge sweet Sophie! God bless you little girl, thank you for our summer holidays together
  13. Over the years i have gradually become allergic to more and more animals. I thought I had been suffering from a nasty cold for the last couple of weeks but when ever I am away from my rats the wheezing, sninus pain, blocked nose, sneezing all goes away. Im also worried it might be the dogs im gradually becoming allergic too as well. Thankfully ive moved away but i would consider my mothers house as my family home, some of you are aware that there are 4 permanent dogs (well 3 and the unrehomeable lurcher) and then a temp foster, as well as a long term gsd foster in the upstairs annexe. As well as that there are cats (im very allergic too and avoid the cattery) and a boarding kennels. Does anyone know why suddenly ive become allergic to all my animals or how i can manage it. I take anti histamines but they really dont do anything. Does anyone else suffer with allergies? or have any fantastic remedies to help manage? Thank you
  14. Can someone change her thread title please? She is 2 now, and still looking. No one even wants to foster her!
  15. I personally dont see a problem with this. Especially as there are lots of dogs that would suit a working home more than they would suit a 'normal home' As long as the dog is well cared for and lives in suitable accomdation
  16. It may be an urban legend but nothing wrong with being more aware of personal safety.
  17. Yes thats Higgins and yes he finally found a home. It wasnt with me but a lovely lovely woman named Carol snatched him from me!! He is a very happy boy and is actually intelligant!!He knows his left, right, roll over, close door and can count to 10 in cantonese (Carol says the number and he relays it back to her, its hilarious!) His new mummy is a health care professional in cardiff and likes to spoil her little man
  18. I generally try to avoid looking at the poundie lists, knowing i cant help with fostering or offering home. But thank you to RDR for getting my baby out (He isnt my baby anymore but he was the best dog i have ever met!! and his new mum agrees with me there)
  19. My mum will be in Nerja in a few weeks and knows an good animal sanctury there. Last time she was on holiday there she visited the sanctuary and took some dogs on a pub crawl along the beach I will try and find the name of the place and phone numbers for you.
  20. I had very bad PMT and am now taking the pill which has really helped, organised my periods (they were all over the place) and also had made that time of the month alot easier to handle. Try talking to your doctor as he/she might be able to recommend something
  21. I just want to say thank you to everyone on here that emailed/pm'd/commented about me becoming a student nurse. I have just finished my first week and loving it! Never before have i been so excited and looking forward to learning both in placements and in lectures. Found out that my first placement will start in mid August so god help anyone in the guildford area. THANK YOU!!!!!
  22. This is very very sad but those staff's shouldnt be pts.
  23. You cant generalise and say that the entire meat industry is like that. Yes some of it is shite but there are some good decent farmers out there who believe in the welfare of the animal, and dont stuff them into crates etc etc etc. If you go to a local farmer who supplies the local butchers the quality of care and attention to welfare is totally different to that of a farmer who supplies nationally if not internationally on a much larger scale. Each and every farmer is different
  24. I find peta very extremist. Having worked on a dairy farm and met other local farmers i can tell you that i never once saw anything like that. Yes the young male calves were sold for veal but it is in the interest of the buyer for the calves to be in good condition as the quality of veal is better. The cows who were milked on a twice daily loved it. Im really not lying here they were queing to get into the cattle sheds. There was lots of human interaction and every time they came in all the cows were checked over for health problems etc etc etc. Yes there are bad places where you will see this but there are also very good farmers out there who love and care for their animals.
