  1. Have a lovely and happy gotcha day Merlin
  2. Don't laugh but have you tried blinking slowly while looking at him? Sounds mad but has worked for me with shy cats - I think its a sign of freindship/non threatening behavior to cats.
  3. Tis a dog thing indeed. Here is my lesser spotted 'Pitbull' Hugo, who often kicks his legs up after pooing As did almost every one of my 54 plus fosters. PS I hope whoever believes that nonsense is not allowed out on thier own
  4. What about one of these ............................. http://www.greenthinking.eu/product.aspx?p...CFQdaMAodFF_Iyw
  5. I am so proud of my boy. We entered the Scrufts Golden Oldie competition at the Battersea Reunion Day today and Hugo came first. One of the judges also told me he was by far the favourite between all three judges I must admit I was choked. Here is the winner himself: Discover Dogs, here we come!
  6. Wow! 20 years old! Many many congratulations and a very happy birthday to lovely Sadie Special kisses also from my (relatively young) oldies, Hugo (16) and Vicky (13).
  7. Hugo: Stop being obsessed with food, I am sure you were not starved in your former home and you are certainly not starved here. And while you are about it, stop getting older, I want you to live forever Vicky: stop beig such a wuss with dogs you don't know, distant noises, heavy rain and other things that worry you they won't hurt you, I would never let anything hurt you. Please also stop licking Hugo's bits with such relish in public too, its very embarassing
  8. My Hugo has been on Previcox for around two and a half years now for his arthritis. It had an amzing and rapid effect on him, from hobbling and hardly being able to walk he was able to trot along happily and do the occasional mad run within just a few days of starting the treatment. I was warned it could upset his tummy initially but it didn't, having said that, he does have a cast iron stomach! Hugo is sixteen and a half, he has slowed donw a little recently but he can still walk all the way round Regent's Park and is still relatively agile for such an oldie.
  9. Happy Homecoming Day, Troy You are my absolute favouratist Greyhound and I love your leans
  10. Glad to hear his op went well and wishing Malcolm all the best for a speedy recovery. Will also be keeping all fingers and paws crossed here for good test results.

A belated Happy Birthday to Bear, you are rather gorgeous
  13. My 13 year old, long term foster girl had two lumps removed from above her eyelid two months ago - They were growing really fast and bleeding, so no choice but to get them off - and she is absolutely fine now. Wishing lovely Cassie all the best for her op.
  14. Regents Park every time, no other park or place seems to quite have that magic in Hugo's world. A few months after I adopted him, I thought I would treat him to a holiday by the sea, especially as his ex owner told the home he had never left London. Was he grateful? not a bit of it, he was disgusted by the sea because it made his paws wet - an evil crime in Hugo's eyes He was overjoyed to be back in dirty smelly old London and to go to the park again, whatever suits him is Ok by me.

  16. Wendy, I am so, so sorry about your darling Poppy, I know how much you loved her and cared for her. Poppy was a very special girl and one I won't forget, I feel honoured to have met her, to have seen her happy wags and her lovely gentle brown eyes. Do you remember my surprise when you told me how nervous and scared she used to be? All credit to you for bringing love and trust back into her life, you gave her such a precious gift and I wish all dogs could have owners like you.

I have to second that, having bumped into ex fosters many a time over the years. They always settle with their new families but they NEVER forget their foster mums and dads, if you do see Ruby again in the future, be prepared for a very joyous welcome. Hope you feel better soon, I really know how hard it is, I never managed to say goodbye to any of my foster babies without feeling really choked up.

Well we did it and they were both absolute stars They wagged thier tails, nuzzled hands and patiently received pats from loads of people they had never met before. This care home is actually a very special one as all residents are not just elderly but they all have dementia too, so it was specially important that we made this visit. I was just standing in for one of our volunteers who is on hols, its a regular arrangement we have with this home, where a suitable dog, if we have one, goes to help spread a little joy to the residents. To Jacobean, our visits are something we do ourselves its not done through the PAT organisation. I did want to resgiter Hugo with PAT a few years back, but on the form it implied that they may not take on older dogs as they thought it could be too much for them. I didn't pursue it any further after seeing that but it doesn't mean that they won't accept your dog, as each dog is assessed individually. And, Hugo is also guilty of snatching treats, so could have failed on that anyway! I think the PAT organisation do a great job and I hope they don;t mind that we 'stole' their idea.

Wish me luck tomorrow, I am taking Hugo (16) and long term foster, Vicky (12/13) to do a PAT type visit at a home for the elderly. Both dogs love people, particulary older people as they both had elderly owners prior to coming into The Mayhew. Hugo has done unofficial PAT style work before with me and he excels at this, Vicky is a little shy at times but not really nervous of people - just hope there are no cats around as she will want to chase them! If there is any food around, Hugo will steal it! Both dogs are normally very well behaved but I suspect that dog's sense of humour means I should expect either to show me up, just because they can.
  20. I have met Troy and he is one of my favourite ever greyhounds, so, this has to be a very goiod recommendation indeed. Anyone out there looking for a new greyhoundy companion, don't miss out on a lovely boy like Mack
  21. I am over the moon that the "other place" has lost the contract and a proper rescue given it instead, about time, wish the other place could be closed completely though.
  22. What a stunning picture and what a stunning girl she is Welcome to your new and fabulous home, Dolly.
  23. What a fantastic job you are doing Sam, those dog's lives have been improved so much and in such a shor space of time.

    Greyhounds

I was yelling at the screen through most of his speech, made poor Hugo and Vicky jump! Of course, there are thousands of people rushing to rehome greyhounds - along with the other thousands of dogs in rescue and no-one mentioned what the likes of David Smith had been up to, all brushed under the carpet what a load of BS, I wish Annette had had the chance to say a bit more.
  25. A very happy belated birthday to gorgeous Toblie, With love from me, Hugo and Vicky xx
