  1. There was a review of the law in NI announced in Nov 2007, last september (2008) the review was ongoing, Michelle Gildernew (Sinn Féin) said: "In the Assembly on 20 November 2007, I announced a review of dangerous dogs and dog-fighting legislation. Since that announcement, my officials have been carrying out a scoping exercise on existing legislation with regard to all aspects of dog control, including dangerous dogs. This included examining the wide range of comments made by Members, district councils, the PSNI and a range of stakeholders. My officials have also engaged with their counterparts in Dublin and Britain." also said in september: "There are conflicting views about the effectiveness of banning dogs based on their breed or type, and my officials have discussed the issue with breed experts and district councils. It is a complex problem that requires careful and detailed consideration, and perhaps further discussion with experts and those with responsibility for enforcement. I also raised the matter during discussions with stakeholders. However, until the issue has been fully examined, I do not want to pre-empt the outcome of the review." what's likely to happen next ? There was a news bit on a case in NI news article Amanda x

  3. Sophie is a 2 and a half years old. Sophie has passed her KC Good Citizen Bronze and has been spayed, micro-chiped and fully vaccinated by EDDR Sophie previously found the perfect home but has since come back to rescue as her owner has been diagnosed with a medical condition and will need treatment for an unknown period of time, leaving her unable to care for Sophie anymore. Sophie is good on lead and will walk with you for miles if you want too, equally she’s happy to sit by your side in front of the TV. Sophie does have huge potential for agility or obedience. She is a motivated and loves to have fun - doing anything for a treat. She is always waiting for you to give her something to do and with the right training we’re convinced she is a star in the making. Sophie isn’t used to living with cats. Sophie is playful with other dogs and enjoys the interaction, she recently had a great time playing with the rescue dogs at the behavioural centre with Dr. Roger Mugford. Currently in a foster home (south east) under the care of EDDR, Sophie will make a fantastic companion, all she’s missing is a forever home - can you help her find the happy ending? Adoption is subject to written agreement, all potential homes will be homehecked. Further details - please contact: EDDR - Amanda - 0844 856 3303
  4. shall be watching "Matt Allwright and Dan Penteado are hunting and confronting more rogues. They investigate pet shops and dog breeders who sell sick puppies. The Rogue Traders team go undercover to buy three puppies from establishments which have been reported to the RSPCA or trading standards. One of the puppies cost 350 pounds and was bought as a pedigree King Charles spaniel. But within a few days it falls ill with Parvo virus, a severe intestinal infection, and has to be put down. Matt and the team reveal that in many cases, the paperwork is inadequate to prove a puppy's pedigree, or that it has been properly vaccinated. One of the dogs purchased by the Rogue Traders team had a docked tail, a procedure which was made illegal in England, Scotland and Wales in 2007. When Matt confronts one puppy farm, the breeder attempts to hold the team captive. It takes a visit by the police to get them released."

  10. Litter sister to daisy and jackson Squeak is also 15 weeks old, American bulldog cross who came into our care via the police. Along with her brother and sister she spent her first 14 weeks in kennels but is now able to be rehomed. While in kennels care has been taken to socialise with dogs people and children and Squeak also loves human and canine company. Squeak is fully vaccinated including Kennel Cough. She is wormed, flea treated and will be mircochipped prior to rehoming. Squeak has recently been health checked by a vet via rescue. Squeak MUST be neutered when old enough and this will be checked to ensure it has been carried out. The right home for Squeak would be a family with someone at home most of the day. While good with children due to her boisterous nature, we would prefer a home with children in full time school. Homes must be bull breed or large breed experienced and must have a secure 6 foot fenced garden. We do not rehome bull breeds to homes with another dog of the same sex but Squeak would probably enjoy the company of a neutered male dog. Potential owners must attend training classes with Squeak, she is being toilet trained and will start lead training shortly. While these will be worked on as with any new puppy her new owners will have to continue with training. Squeak is currently in foster care in Sussex and preference will be given to homes in the south. All homes will be homechecked, adoption is subject to written agreement and a donation will be asked for. Further details on Squeak: [email protected] If wishing to offer a home please email [email protected] for a pre home form. Amanda
  11. Daisy is 15 week old American bulldog cross who came into our care via the police. Along with her brother and sister she spent her first 14 weeks in kennels but is now able to be rehomed. While in kennels care has been taken to socialise with dogs people and children and Daisy loves human and canine company. Daisy has been very ill and is very underweight at the moment. Although now on the mend she is not ready for homing immediately. Any potential home must be willing to wait for her. Daisy is fully vaccinated including Kennel Cough. 18. quote: "One dog seized as a banned breed and later released as not being “pit bull typeâ€, was in bad condition and spent 12 days on a drip suffering from parvo virus. His owner was given no information on his return." To the lady that owned this dog - that is a dreadful thing to suffer and I hope that your dog is now much better Today I had a long chat with a family whose dog is in kennels under dda, they were talking about christmas and how they felt with thier dog taken away from them, the news that parvo had broken out in kennels the last they heard several weeks ago, and how they didn't understand the law etc and just wanted their dog home this xmas, which is not going to happen just yet, had me in tears as the law has a knack of truly getting to you, well, if your're reading this, just know you are not a 'statistic' and lots of people do care about you and your dog this xmas to anyone suffering due to bsl, stay strong and don't give up Amanda x
