Hello everyone, just to bring up this thread again Well I finally got Lenny done, after changing vets to a vet which has experience with sighthounds, he agreed that it was now time for me to have him done. My OH went to pick him up (I went to work, had to keep myself busy all day or I would've spent the whole time crying!), he had to ask the nurse to repeat herself when she said the bill came to..... £99.99 there really isn't an emoticon which shows just how happy I was when I found out!!! The operation went fine and his wound has healed well, apart from the initial very very very bad clipper rash Hasn't bothered the stitches at all so no need for the old lampshade treatment, which is fortunate as I've never got one to fit right on a whippet yet! The vet also managed to get both of his nuts through only one operation site so he only needed 4 stitches. My old vets were now quoting about 300 squid so I'm glad we changed vets. Lovely man - not just after you cash The old vets charged us £180 to give Molly 4 stitches when she had a run in with some barbed wire - and totally over prescribed loads of drugs in my opinion. Glad I've finally found a good vet

Blackmagic - thanks for pointing that out for me, I hadn't noticed that bit before. I have done a quick search on the web for a homeopathic vet but I only found one and its quite far away. I don't believe that though so I think I'm going to ring round a few vets to ask. Ailsas mum - I had a look at my dogs vac log books last night and it turns out that Molly is only 5 months overdue, Lenny is 7 months. Lenny has only had his puppy and his first booster (they are nobivac so the ones he's had are the full ones, the next one should be less components so I'm not happy about him having to have the whole course again). I think I'm going to do a bit of ringing around to find another vet - at least for their vaccinations. There is a rescue centre down the road from me, I might pop down to have a chat with him and see what he does in a situation like yours.

Hi all, I don't post a lot on here, tend to be a bit of a but I was wondering if anyone can help? I have missed my dogs boosters because I've been fannying around wondering if I should bother with boosters or not having read stuff on this and other forums about annual vaccs being unnecessary. Anyway, I've now decided to have them done because I am going to register one of my dogs to be a PAT dog and they require the dogs to be up to date. So I rang my vets and found out that because I have left it too long (over 18 months) they have to have the whole course done again. So my question is, where can I find a vet who is willing to do less than annual boosters????

I got my spiny mice on saturday, from a different rescue but I thought I'd post a few pics on here to bump up the thread They are adorable, I am soooooo in love with them. I have 4 girlies I can't think of any names for them at the moment though - all I can think of is boys names

Its the other way round in our house! My OH will sneak up to bed and jump in before I get upstairs, then when I pull the duvet back he will have Molly hidden underneath its not that I'm a miserable git but I'm a bit of an isomniac, find it really hard to sleep and when I eventually drift off the last thing I want is Mollys bony little legs sticking in my back! So I say 'OUT, NOW' and she duly gets up and goes to her crate to be zipped in for the night I wouldn't mind but he zips Lenny into the crate no problem, its just Molly who he likes to cuddle! They are both allowed on the settee though, well, we don't get a choice really. We regularly end up on the floor

Dylan is absolutely gorgeous When I saw this thread when you first posted it, it reminded me that I'd forgotten to send off my picture of Lenny for a reading. Now that its come back up, its reminded me again!!! I am going to send the pic off now before I forget again (is there an emoticon for 'having a blonde moment'? If not, there should be cos I'm always having one!!!)

Hi ClazUK, It was actually my vet who recommended for me not to castrate him too soon as he is extremely nervous, he is also fear aggressive. I do fully intend to have him castrated but I just can't decide when. I have had so much conflicting advice about this subject now that I am more than confused one group of people say do it urgently, another group are saying no way. I have now found out about a study done in sweden (I think) into the incidence of testicular cancer in chryptorchid whippets, I've just got to get my hands on it. But I know it will be all statistics so it won't make the decision any easier. I just wish now that I'd got him done when we first got him. I am in the process of changing vets at the moment anyway (for various reasons) and Lenny is due his jabs so I will ask the new vet their opinion - and probably get even more confused! A quick question I've got to anyone - can the testicles be located by ultra sound (or some other method)?

I was told by various people to wait for a bit longer to see if Lennys dropped but they never did, he is 2 and a half now Still haven't had them removed yet because he is a very nervous dog and I don't want to make him worse. We were only quoted £250 for the operation and both of his nuts are retained. Mind you, he is only a small dog so I think thats why its cheaper? Our insurance company said they may pay for the operation but that was yonks ago so I don't think they will now. I have noticed a lot of insurance companies now have it written into the small print that they don't cover for chryptorchidism. I thought m&s were one of them, but maybe thats new policies. ETA. my vets also said they would not operate until he was 9 months

But how do you know that it is that pig which ends up on your plate? In the main, I am veggie because although I don't disagree with eating meat, I want to know that the animal I am eating has been treated in a humane way throughout its life and death. I assume that if you spend more money, you tend to get better quality meat from an animal which has been treated correctly. However, seeing as I'm always skint I just don't eat it! The only meat I eat at the moment is trout which my boss at work catches, and I trust him to kill it quickly. I try to get the more 'ethical' dog foods where possible and OH goes to farm shops which I think are better than the supermarket meat Just wanted to add, I know the piggies which you are talking about, my parents live in scarborugh so we make that trip often. I love it when you can see all the little piglets rolling around in the mud good job I don't drive because I'd probably crash!!!

We were charged £98 for consultaion only a couple of weeks ago, the treatment cost £4 on top of that! Molly got stung on her muzzle, I'd run out of Piriton (and so had asda!) but I thought she'd probably be alright. She started to choke a bit so off to the vets we went. She must've got stung when she was digging around in the garden, trying to uncover a really disgusting bit of pigs ear which she insisted on burying to hide it from Lenny I'm looking for a new vets now because I don't really like the place anyway! This place is a 24 hour surgery anyway so I think they're ripping people off charging this amount. Oh, and when you phone its virtually the first thing they mention is the price and asking if you can afford to pay it. Also, they don't deal directly with insurance companies so its pay up front then get the money back later

Hi, Does anybody have any personal recommendations for a behaviourist in this area? A member of another forum which I belong to is having a few problems so I said I'd ask on here. I have pointed her in the direction of the APBC if no one has any suggestions

Mine came too for Lenny but I must've missmeasured him because it was too small so I'm exchanging it for a bigger one. It fit Molly but it was black so not very girly but at least I know what size to get her when I get her one

Go for it!!! I tell you what, if you do it I'll do it I'm 30 and although I did learn and failed a test when I was 19, I then moved away to go to uni and had no money to carry on. And that was it really, I've never taken it up again. I am quite scared about it now and I reckon the older you get the more scared you get. I thought about learning in an automatic but I couldn't find many instructors but I may start looking again. Anyone know of any in the leeds area or know where I can go to find one (ie. a website)? Right then, just gotta find some money to pay for the lessons now Ooh, just wanted to add, I know what you mean about the lecherous man thing! I get on the bus with this bloke who is like that! He is a really nice man and I need to talk to someone on my hour commute but he makes me want to die when he squeezes my hands and puts his arms round my shoulders I know he would be mortified if I told him what I thought as he is just one of those 'touchy feely' people, whereas I really am NOT!!! Reason to learn to drive??? I think so
