another gd idea is to get links in with your local ramblers group-they often do mid week walks and like to have somewhere to park/get a decent lunch and be accepted in muddy walking boots! my local group normally has about 15 peeps and when i walked regularly everyone had a pint and something to eat....one pub also had an area we could hang up waterproofs etc to start drying out-so that made it Very popular they also let us have the back room for committee meetings/AGM and would lay on tea/sandwiches for a gd rate fee

oh dear Lord-breathe fee, breathe right. conservatory lady came-got quote-happy to use them-its a reasonable sized thing and were going for um er i dunno one in a traditional sytle rather then the ones that looked like add ons from the industrial park im having slate through kitchen into conservatory (the rough multi coloured stuff) builder man has given quote-which im happy with but will need tweaking. kitchen man has e mailed me some design ideas-and wants me to go into show room & discuss....i may have chosen a cream, traditional style thing. saw neighbour (she with fantastic taste) and she has promised to look at it for me & advise...she did look bemused when on my knees i asked her to go and see the kitchen man-choose and i would pay but she was having none of it-swine i cannot explain how difficult i find this-why do people find it so hard to understand that as long as it is reasonably clean, works and isnt day glo (or orange)-im happy? fee

in a word-yes. the last time i did serious diy in old house (i had new kitchen, bathroom and had slate flooring throughout the ground floor-it was all chosen by the time i had made and drunk a mug of tea) i then went on holiday leaving keys and catering packs of tea/biscuits etc in old kitchen. when i came home-all done! oh God-kitchen man is going to draw it all up and email some pics-we can then go into show room to look at all the other bits....oh dear God

my lovely victorian house has a god awful kitchen. i have decided to have a new kitchen and put a conservatory on the back which i can use as a dining room... with fab views of the garden. now im pretty chilled about all that except.... im totally without any and i mean any domestic vision.-i have no idea how people decide that shade A of blue is better then shade B of blue....how has anyone got any idea of what it will look like till it arrives-and is in? why dont i really care that much? i feel really freaked about having to make decisions about things like taps-FFS water comes out or it doesnt-end of story-i just dont get the house beautiful stuff? the kitchen man came today-and i had the weird desire to say-just design & choose it-im happy to live with it the conservatory woman comes tomorrow-and i know they will ask me about flooring-i dunno i just walk on the stuff! AARGH fee

i think its a matter of finding what works for you-at the time & place you are in your life. sometimes a house full of mutts-is fine-and then life moves on...and you want more freedom. i dont think thats something to revile or be ashamed of-embrace it-the wheel turns. fee
