  1. Sounds good. We tried some seed strips last year with spring onions, its a sort of webbing with a seed every centimetre or so, worked really well.
  2. Hi Everyone, I haven't been on the Refuge forum in years, I'm ashamed to say. I was always much more of a lurker than a poster. Then today my plans for the day were foiled due to the weather and I suddenly remembered the Refuge forum, so I decided to see if it still existed and YAY!! it does. Whats more there is a thread ongoing about growing veggies, even better! My OH and I started growing a few veggies last year, we were playing at it really and not particularly successful. This year we have decided to go for it and do things properly. We are very fortunate to have a large garden and two greenhouses which we decided it was about time we made good use of. Also my OH is retiring in July so we thought a veggie garden would be something for him to get his teeth into. So far we have planted our seed potatoes, cauli's, onion sets and dwarf sweetcorn. Our brussel sprout seedlings are in the greenhouse along with the tomatoes and 3 melon plants in a grow bag. (Yes melons! well it's worth a try). We are waiting for the runner and french beans to germinate. I haven't got a clue how successful all this lots going to be but we're going to try our best to actually produce something worth eating at the end of the season. Last year we had a horrible pest that decimated our potato crop. Not sure what it was, possibly slugs, but whatever it was munched its way through the inside of all our potatoes and just left the skins. Very disappointing. Has anyone any idea what it could have been? The little blighters had disappeared by the time we harvested the potatoes. I'm so glad the Refuge still exists! Looking forward to getting to know you all. Sara
  3. Rochdale Dog Rescue are having an online fundraising photo competition from 2nd - 16th August! To view please follow this link http://z10.invisionf...hp?showforum=64 Any questions please email Sara at [email protected] It's photo competition time! The competition will run from the 2nd-16th August. The photo comp will be unusual in that the categories are not the usual 'handsome dog, prettiest bitch' just to make things a little bit more interesting. How you interpret the categories is up to you so it's time to get your cameras out and get creative! Christmas photo mock ups will be accepted for the Christmas category but if you have genuine Christmas photo's that's great. The judges are not members of any online dog related forums so all members can enter. This also means that all members can post their own photo's. We suggest a donation of £1 per photo entered, payable by paypal to [email protected] or payment by cheque or BACs. (Please pm Dillington on the RDR forum for bank details and address). If paying by PayPal please select 'gift' when sending your payment. There is no limit to the number of photos that can be entered per person A rosette will be awarded to 1st place and runner up in each category. We also have some special rosettes to be awarded at the judges discretion. We really look forward to seeing your entries. Sara and Deborah (RDR Fundraising Co-ordinators).
  4. I have two Irish dogs. Neither were 'cute puppies' when I adopted them, nor pedigree and funnily enough they have no behaviour or medical problems. I would have adopted my two regardless of where they came from originally. In an ideal world there would be a rescue place for every dog regardless of where they originate. But until this happens if rescues are prepared to save dogs from Ireland Spain or wherever then good on them. (My local rescue saves dogs from Romania.)
  5. QUOTE (chickentikka @ May 5 2008, 05:42 PM) Would anyone who has adopted a dog from MR since the witch hunt be banned from DP? I wouldn't want to post on a forum where I had to keep the origins of my dogs secret. Come to think of it I can't anyway, my username and password were deleted.
  6. Well done Riley, you're a little star. Sara, Livvy and Rusty

    King

    So sorry, sleep tight King.
  8. I received my renewal notice last week. I have never claimed and my dogs are 2 and 3 years old. The premium has increased by £2 per dog per month and my £0 excess is now a £70 excess. I tried an online quote for my two out of interest and it was £6 more than my renewal. I'm not sure whether I should stay with M&S or look elsewhere, the £70 excess is a bit steep. Sara
  9. I would like to put an ES collar around Mr Matthews neck and zap him to see how he likes it.
  10. Happy gotcha day lovely Eddie. Love from Sara Livvy and Rusty.
