  1. Rusty is my 15 and a half year old boy. He has been fighting fit, and me and OH imagined years ahead with him. But yesterday his back legs gave way. This has never happened before and it has come as a massive shock (he has been on metacam for the past year of so). We took him to the vets who ran blood tests (all clear) and gave him a metacam injection and some antibiotics just in case he had an infection. We brought him home and made him comfortable then later in the evening he managed to stand up again. He has been pottering ever since but is a little unsteady. I am sat up with him now and he just wont settle, he is trying lots of different positions, places etc and has been doing since he got back from the vets almost 10 hours ago. He is eating ok but he is clearly very unhappy. I just dont know what to do for him. He seems to be struggling more now than earlier in the evening, could the metacam injection be wearing off? The vet says he may simply be 'worn out' and have given up. I know that the light has gone out of his eyes and the wag from his tail, since yesterday. Im hoping they will come back though. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Rusty is my first dog, so my first experience of old age...... Thank you for reading
  2. Oooh Louie what a handsome chap you are. Hope you Had a wonderful gotcha day with you mum
  3. He's been to the vets today, and he is not young after all, somewhere between 6 and 10 years old. He has been blood tested for FIV and leaukemia (? I think it was this) and he is negative -phew! His 'wound' is actually where his eyes are infected and they have dribbled down into his jowelly cheeks. Because he has such a flat face this will be common, and also his breathing is noisy.
  4. On Monday a little black and white cat turned up at our house (churchdown area of Gloucester), and stayed. We are trying to find his owners. He is not chipped He is young, male and entire. He is very loving and affectionate. He has singed whiskers on one side and I have just noticed a wound there too. Im wondering if he has been hurt by a car I will take him to the vets tomorrow to get his wound looked at.
  5. My newest arrival came from Springfield she had a lucky escape.
  6. OOOOOh only just seen this thank you all so much, its made my day
  7. Our little dog Ruby has suffered with allergies all her life, we have tried various medications and such. These past few months have been so bad though that we have decided to go down the blood testing route. We are still in the early stages, she has had the first testing done and out of the three categories ; indoor, weed/grass and tree she has proved positive to tree and indoor (and also flea saliva.) The next step is further tests on her blood to pinpoint exactly what she is allergic to and then they will make up monthly injections for her. The vet has said there is a 60-70% chance of success. Having witnessed her suffering over the past few months though we felt we had to give it a try. The only other viable option for her if this fails will be a lifetime of steroids. hope Jess finds itch free-ness Its interesting to hear that other members have been down this route as its all very new to me, Ill go and have a read about the lovely Wiggles experience now...
  8. I lost my beloved dog Florence in May, I wasnt sure we were ready for another dog, but Bridie came along in July and now we couldnt imagine life without her. It helped because I knew she needed a home, and we could provide her with a forever home here. Being mum to her has given me a purpose. I dont miss Florrie any less, but Bridie never fails to bring a smile to my face. for you
