  1. I read a man was killed in forfar when a tree fell on his car. Was his journey worth his life? It is the same a those who refuse to evacuate then have to be rescued. 60 people who refused to evacuate had to be rescued. One woman laughed saying it was alright now as they had been rescued,t after her and husband refused to evacuate then , when the water got to high , they tried to get out by driving thier car into the flood. These people are putting their rescuers' lives at risk.
  2. Wet and windy here but typical autumn day. Nothing extreme. NE is worst hit. Dozens of roads , including main roads, close due to trees down, flooding and a landslip on A9. Part of Brechin was evacuated last night and as flood barrier on the river is effective for a 12 foot rise in level, but expected rise in 16 feet. That is a lot of water All roads in and out of Blairgowrie were closed as were all roads in and out of Dundee. The situation changes from one minute to the next. Despite a red alert - possible danger ot life- people still insist on travelling then complaining when they are stuck or turned back. People are travelling to the coast to see the waves.
  3. Wet here but nothing unusual. not much wind. Dry at the moment. I think we are due to get worse tomorrow. We have an amber warning for flooding due to heavy rain and a yellow warning for wind, from 12.00 tomorrow until Saturday Fife and northwards uo to Caithness are to get the worst of it. Trees are down on A9. No trains running north and ferries cancelled.
  4. I hope everybody stays safe
  5. Not much. Having a quiet day. Have parcelled up stuff to send to the charuty going to Ukraine. Two boxes ready to post, weather allowing, as forecast is dire.
  6. Another lovely autumn day but storm Bahbet is forecast from tonight. I have had a busy day. I did some ironing, then went to the garden centre for a bigger pot to pot up my Chirstmas cactus which is showing some buds. I then went to the library to change my books. After lunch I washed my car as it was sticky with sticky sand from South Africa that landed a couple of weeks ago and grandson has washed it. Having dinner with family tonight so don't need to make anything which is good as I have done enough for today.
  7. Lovely autumn day here- sun and bright blue sky. Son came and cut back the bushes that were spilling over my back fence from the scrub land behind me. We filled my brown bin ( council garden clooection) with them. Grandson is due to wash my car today. HE was suppose to do it two weeks ago but the weather has been foul the last two Saturdays. However, his dad paid him, in advance on my behalf ( I pay him to wash it as pocket money). Takeaway night with the family tonight.
  8. Dry here at present but cold. Yesterday a little vole was sniffing around the base of my bird table. It found a seed, grabbed it and scuttled off with it in its mouth, under the fence..
  9. Much colder today. Will need to look out winter coat. Treated my self to a brushed cotton sheet for my bed.
  10. I have no love for hooded crows. When I lived up north, we had two rogue hooded crows attacking our windows. They moved from one window to another. They attacked neighbour's cars. Fortunately they didn't attack ours. They started banging the windows at 5 am and continued until 8pm. One did the attacking and the other fluttered around it, loudly encouraging it. They were not after the putty as it was the window surround they were pecking. WE tried all the usual detterents but nothing worked. We covered the garage window with newspaper to stop any reflection but they ripped the paper off. We strung black cotton across the window, after two days they had learned to balanc eon it. They pecked the eyes out of the new born lambs. Murphy was terrified by the banging and we had to bring him into the bedroom, beside us, at night. Eventually, the gamekeeper of the local estate trapped them and peace returned.
  11. Damp! We had cinstant rain from Friday night until Sunday teatime. No flooding around here but many roads closed on Saturday due flodds, landslides or cattle being moved from flooded fields. No accidents reported though so one good thing to come out of it. A9 is notorious for accidents nearly every day with multiple deaths. I t is worst in summer with foreign visitors who get confused which side of the road they should be driving on.
  12. Hope you get better soon, jazz. A wet, dark day today.had to put the light on at 4pm as I could not see to read.
  13. Did a washing and put in tumble drier, as BG have a half price electricity offer on at the moment. Blue skies at the moment so a nice autumn day. Needed T bags so popped to Asda- spent £25 and came home without any T bags!
  14. Gosh, they grow up quick. Doing away. Sunny today but windy. However it is not cold. Washed some jumpers which are on the line getting a good blow.
  15. Happy Birthday to Honey and Cooper- oldies are special.
  16. Had a photo of foster dog having cuddles on the couch- he has made himself at home. Poor Brian but he will soon bounce back. Keeping them quiet is usually the problem
  17. Foster dog has moved on. He has made big improvements but I feel I have done all I can with him. He needs a quieter environment to learn it is not a big bad world out there and he needs other dogs for confidence. He has gone to a hime who have two goldens and are well used to labradors. he jumped into thier car without a backward look. Got a text in the evening that introductions had gone well and they were all playing in the garden. So much for an 'aggressive dog' He is not aggressive , he is that dog that wants to say 'hI', and does not know how to cope with the frustration of being prevented by a lead. He is a foster dog but we are hoping he will be a keeper.
  18. Enjoy your meal.,jazz. The sun continues to shine here with occasional showers but nothing of any meaning. I am fed up having to water the pots outt he front. It is not normal for September in Scotland. Foster dog goes to another foster in Sunday. I have made inroads to his reactivity to things he sees on the tv and in the garden. He has been a challenge at times but by avoiding his big triggers of dogs and traffic I have been able to work on his inhome triggers. He has responded well to positive training and lots of praise for good behaviour. Thats eems to have been lacking in his previous life. But, I feel I am limited to being able to move him forward. He is going to people who are used to labradors ( and are younger than me) .and have been made aware of what he is like so hopefully they are committed to helping him. Good morning Eve. I hope you are doing well. Have you been able to sort out your garden?
  19. Very muggy here tonight. Thunder and lightning and heavy rain forecast. House finished and looking bette.
  20. Who are the bikes for- you? Haar this morning but sun breaking through now. Packing up a parcel to send to a charity that delivers to Ukraine. They collect almost anything that canbe of use and supply to orphanages , rescues, hospitals anf front line soldiers. There is so little available in Ukraine, even baby food is scarce. Volunteers deliver lorry loads each month to different parts. Last month they delivered two buses full of aid and also donated the buses. It is a sad world we live in just now.
  21. Been hot here again today. Back of house done . Starting on front tomorrow, finish on Thursday.
  22. I am renewing the roughcast on my house. it was due to be done sometime in September The roughcaster phoned on Saturday to ask if he could come on Monday as he had had a cancellation so had a spot to fill. Suit me. So it will be done next week. The forecast for next week is dry and sunny so hopefully they are correct. I have watered the pot plants as the storage reel will be removed from the fence that he needs to remove to get access to the end of the house. The Fence is slightly inside the boundary. , and cleared the back of the house of table, chairs etc. Take away niht with the family tonight.
  23. Misty start but clearing now. No plans fpr taday. Will see how it goes.
  24. Wow, it is warm out there. Have spent an hour in the garden- cutting the grass, cutting back plants and tidying them up. Should sweep the slabs as the birds have been chucking moss down from the gutter but I have done enough. Will sweep them up tomorrow if it dry.
  25. After some drizzly showers the sun has come out and the sky is blue. It was a muggy night. The weather seems to have settled a bit for now but it is nit summer. Autumn starts the middle of August in Scotland. When I lived in Buckinghamshire the kids wore shorts or summer dresses to school until the end of September. Got the results of my diabetic eye test today- all clear and will be tested again in two years.
