  1. Thanks Billy Which compass course did you do and who was your tutor?
  2. Isnt the college owned by David Cavill though?
  3. They can be in front - that's ideal - you want to win They can be by your side - that's quite a lot, they get tired They aren't allowed to be behind you, that's disqualification, as you aren't allowed to force on a tired dog, so you have to slow down yourself then. The easy answer to Heart's dilemma is to run holding her dog on the lead, but this is more comfortable and efficient with a waist belt.
  4. Hi Billy As a far as Im am aware, the Animal Care College is the one which is all the old school dominance based? Thats what everyone always says on all forums about different courses and colleges anywaye? What was the prob you had with Compass?
  5. then you need a cani x belt attached to a dog harness
  6. That came up in my seminar a well I just replied he wouldn't have a problem, as he is simply an experienced dog trainer, not a 'pet dog owner' Which means his dogs just wouldnt play up in his environment, as he gives off a different vibe. And he actually trains them. As Cesar would put it (his one useful phrase), 'calm assertive energy' (although i never used that phrase to JR at the time) WHOOPS!!! THAT WAS POSTED BY KRUSEWALKER ON DANISH LOGIN
  7. I've been on 2 JR workshops and have to say i was surprisingly unimpressed (considering his rep). The group I went with also generally felt the same. Some odd comments. Such as: "whoever came up with the idea of using treats to train puppies was an idiot" Just to add, he didnt say that in a rude obnoxious way, he was just being relaxed about his opinion. Twas just the opinion i found odd, not the manner Then an old terrier that was scared witless of grooming, and aggressive with it, so he tethered him to grooming table, so it couldnt bite him, just bite the brush. Which it did constantly, at one point choking as he bit down hard on the bristles. JR said this wasn't a problem, as he would give into the grooming, which, he, indeed did. JR said you could smear peanut butter on the wall to distract him during the grooming. When i replied the biting on the brush looked like it was painful, JR didnt agree. And when I asked why dont you positively associate the grooming with treats, he said that would be wrong, as using food would make him aroused! errr.....2 points there: 1) the dog couldnt have been more aroused (wildly attacking the brush snarling etc)! 2) so how come letting him eat peanut butter from a wall doesn't count as food that would arouse?? But therein lay my main rub with JR. He fixes his seminars so either: a) you arent allowed to ask very many questions b) and if you do, you cannot finish asking them, which is why I didnt get the chance to counter back with points 1) & 2) above, as he closed me down quite sharply changing subject. Mostly you literally have to sit there for hours and hours and hours on end listening to him talk and talk and talk and he tells you at the beginning of the day that's what he will make you do, and he makes no apology for this, as he has too much to tell you, and he doesn't really want you taking full break periods either. By the end of the day our group were tired, stressed, frustrated, slumping in their chairs, holding their own heads up and had very sore bums! WHOOPS!!! THAT WAS POSTED BY KRUSEWALKER ON DANISH LOGIN
  8. That sounds promising, my current dogs are far worse with cats out and about, than here at home lol. Where in the south is she located at present?
  9. Sorry, the above post is from me. But I am sure Krusewalker would ask the same questions
  10. Hope you feel better soon Clare Very exciting for Blue! Hope he makes some nice new pony friends
  11. Gina and Roxy have qualified for the Nationals!! The class was split, and she came second in her group, 3rd overall Roxy has been coming into season, and has not been overly cooporative (sp?)the last 4 days, so warming up was just lots of stretching and not putting pressure on, and hoping that madame would repay that by giving that bit extra in the ring. And she did, she was really well behaved, and got 70,0% (don't think there were any marginal points but not sure). Only got beaten by one horse on 73% !! A few pics from the warm up, but as I said, she did not really do a lot there (apologize for the poor quality) and a couple from the prize giving (9 horses stood still, one certain little mare was dancing and prancing like a bit naughty grand prix horse ) (that is not a white spot on her forehead, but just her own froth)
  12. bloody well done!!! I shall try and remember to bring my camera, but will only gfet pics from warm up, if any, as I always video her tests
  13. Stop poking dogs inside the mouth mate it's not cool! Our old sick dogs managed an hour and a half of well paced walking in the woods today. Wasn't supposed to be that long, but we got a bit lost
  14. Did I hear Rally-O mentionend? Is it getting started over here now? I really need "my" club to take it up, it looks so fab!
  15. I was thinking of you the other day, as I was drawing this with the pencils I won in the auction. I haven't made a drawing for years! edited to add a hello to Jules as well
  16. congrats Clare! My boss is going to the regionals at Addington on tuesday.. I am not yet sure I can come, as we might be short staffed at the kennels. She has been going from strength to strength with her mare, after switching trainers Roxy has also become so grown up over the last 3-4 months.. when we are away at a show now, I can tack her up on the lorry and unload her, all by myself with no help. No hysterically bashing her head about, and trying to run down the ramp before the partitions are open. Big girl! I can even load her back up again afterawards, with no help, makes everything much easier! She has already qualified for the winter regionals as well, she just keeps winning!
  17. Such a brave princess I am sure she will be out-running you in a few days time! Paws crossed for a speedy recovery
  18. what has happened to her?
  19. been right here, in my little house ...mainly on a danish dog forum now, it started up around the time I moved over here, and has quite a few people in the area I used to live in.. how is that for pants timing!? Indy is good, the other two are getting old Lexi has a poorly heart, has been admitted to hospital, and is currently balancing between being a bit tired and chasing rabbits in the woods . She was given anything between a few days and a couple of weeks, but is now nearly into her third week after treatment So basically we don't really know what is going on, but count each day with her as a blessing. Akita has had some problems as well, initially shown as something with the liver, but we are in early stages of tests etc with her. She has lost weight and to me is starting to look a bit like a dog with cushings, but I have not yet had her tested for that. All 3 are quite happy in themselves, loves their walks and their food. How are your lot?
  20. ...but thought I'd tell you in public. When we went to Denmark this summer for a couple of weeks, the girls got SO much praise for their very beautiful Elricc Collars! I would inset the big smile smilie here, but I can't find them LOL. They are my most favourite collars ever.
  21. confused in Hertfordshire....
