Thank you for that. It's certainly worth contacting them. They're a long way from me though.....

Nice thought but I think he's a bit too big.

Thank you for that, Alicia. Very welcome feedback. I had a look at his site and generally looked around Ebay but they're still going to cost a lot of money. Rinty has arthritis in his elbows too so he may find it too much and I don't want to take a chance by spending that much money without some certainty that it would help. What a shame there isn't a Red Cross for dogs where you can borrow items while they're needed and return them when you've finished with them.

Thank you! I'm off to see what his site says and I'll try Ebay too. Diane

What a great idea! Our old Rinty can't go very far now but if he could cope with wheels he'd get a lot fun out of life. I know it sounds harsh but I wouldn't want to buy them because I'm not sure he could cope and, as he's now 17, this isn't a long term investment. He's a GSD/collie cross. I think you're a bit far away for me to collect, Alicia - does anyone else have a set we could try? Diane
  6. Puppy school definitely sounds like the way to go - if only because it sounds like you enjoyed it. But don't underestimate your abilities. The depression, lack of confidence, brain fog and weight issues are, I'm sure, all related. Inside you're still just as capable of doing whatever work you want to do.
  7. I have a friend of a friend looking for a young border collie - really wanted something in the midlands though. But I can pass the details on to this friend on Tuesday and maybe we can get rescue back up so she can have this little lady. Do we know any more about her? This lady has recently lost her collie who had a lot of brown on him and she wants one which looks completely different. Diane
  8. I've never heard of an "apartment dog" - but what kind of life will he have? She's not used to animals and, I'm guessing, wouldn't know how to teach the children to behave around him. He'll be pulled about and, in that situation, most dogs are liable to bite. Surely even apartment dogs need to have walks and just be dogs for at least part of the day. It sounds like he'd be alone for much of every day and in kennels (or worse) for much of the year. She sounds like an animal rescue's nightmare. I do hope you can convince her not to get an animal - if she must get something, a guinea pig or a goldfish that neighbours can look after if she's away, would surely suit her lifestyle much better. Diane

  12. However, I could come along to meet you all - and bring picnic! Diane
  13. I'd love to and I only live 10 minutes away - but my collie is currently going through a really skittish stage and she'd completely freak out with one other dog around, never mind several of them. Trying to work out what's unsettled her but it's going to be a slow process.
  14. So sorry, Alicia. It never gets any easier does it, even when you know it's the right thing to do. Run free, George. Say hi to everyone over the Bridge - and have fun with Onion and Maddie.
  15. I was stunned listening to the news today. Apparently there really are "Tasmanian Devils"! I thought they were invented by Warner Brothers. Who knew??? I was so happy to hear that they really do exist - I'm sure my mad laughter must have been heard for miles. But the news article was about how they're dying out because of facial cancers and now I feel really sad for them.
  16. We've had doggy tombolas and doggy-dips at RDR and at Wiccaweys. Went really well!
  17. I know that pineapples do grow in the ground - I just wanted to warn against using Farmville as a reference book!
  18. You do know that, according to Farmville, strawberry milk comes from pink cows, don't you??? I'm not sure Farmville is a reliable reference source.........
  19. Just as an after thought - it might be worth asking your local freecycle group for candle making equipment. I think it's the sort of hobby people try and then get out of. I got absolutely masses of stuff from a youth club - someone decided it's too dangerous for young people to heat wax. Hard to think of an activity which is completely risk free but that's the way things are nowadays sadly.
  20. It looks OK but I think that's really expensive for a hobby. I make candles and just use old pans and bowls. If I were you I'd go to a car boot sale to try to find old pans etc. Or ask on your local freecycle. I'd try both of those before shelling out money - then you'll have money to buy wax and books and wicks and dyes and perfumes and moulds and all manner of other goodies. Diane
  21. Try sending a PM to Squirrel in case she's not seen this thread. Diane
  22. That's lovely. So nice to hear a story of parvo being beaten when it's in our headlines so often and always sounds like a certain death sentence.
  23. Thank you so much. The pills arrived this morning. They will keep our wonderful Rinty pain free for a while. I'll send the Oldies club a donation of £25 soon. That still helps with our finances (and with the isolation boardng I've offered to cover for the poundies well I couldn't stand by and watch so I had to do something!) as it's still much cheaper than the vets.
  24. Thank you, Jeanne. My address is Diane Minshall 13 The Plain Brailsford Ashbourne Derbyshire DE6 3BZ. What sort of donation would you like? And is it alright if it waits until after my pension hits my bank account this month? I've just cleared myself out donating to Precious Poundies who are trying to get all the dogs out of a pound before it closes this weekend - and they were only told about the closure on Wednesday! Thank you. Diane
  25. If you still have the PLT I could use it. Our old GSD (very old! he's 15 now) is on it. I'd be more than happy to make a donation to the oldies club. Diane
