  2. I've complained several times in the past about this particular postie Griff and he's had a hell of a telling off from me too after he was nasty with Archie. They don't seem to want to do anything about him. As the rest of the posties are lovely and often go the extra mile for us I don't want to go to a higher level than the sorting office manager for fear of getting them all told off or sanctioned in some way. Ruby wasn't bothered as the contents were in perfect condition so she said "let it be". She's had loads of pressies. Her staff got her a lovely sponge cake decorated with pencils made of fondant, a bunch of flowers, a silk scarf and a matching silver necklace and ear-rings. Others in her company treat their staff like shite but it's always been Ruby's philosophy to treat others as she likes to be treated and it comes back in spades to her as they are very loyal to her.

  3. Have you ever tried the tanning booth, Griff? where they turn you round like a spit roast? Philip just came back from walking Candy and said he'd been round the field and was coming back down the jitty and met this group of late teen/early twenties standing near the end in clouds of very aromatic smoke. He said they were very chatty and complimented him on the fact his sunglasses matched his t shirt. I said never mind that, didn't you ask them where they got the stuff from?😏

  4. Anything that prolongs your independance is a good thing Suzeanna. No compensation required - you get 3 points for a pensioner, 4 for an annoying brat and 6 for anyone taking a selfie 😂

  5. Neighbours 2 doors along, the ones whose collie likes to race Wispa along the gardens, called across to me with a lovely offer. They do not need a delivery slot they booked with ASDA 2 weeks ago as they have managed to go and do a shop. So they have offered me the password so I can use their slot.

  6. This should give you all a laugh...I've been having the odd Tena Lady moment as I've been coughing so hard. I don't have any Tena Lady, but I do have a pack of Bodyform I got when the letrozole caused bleeding, so I thought one of them would do. Unfortunately, being sleep deprived and not really looking at what I was doing, it wasn't until I plonked one in place and pulled up my knickers that I realised I'd got the sticky side against me, not the underwear!

  8. He clearly hasn't got any kind of handle on this one. If he hasn't seen the conflict in your family for himself he may find it hard to imagine how serious it is. I have had a chat with my sister (not mentioning your name but explaining the situation) because in her years as a minister she has had to organise help for various people in crisis. There should be an Emergency Housing Officer attached to your council who should be available outside normal office hours, and because of your serious health problems combined with threat of violence you should qualify as a vulnerable adult. This would mean that the council are required to provide housing under an Act in 2014. Worth following up.

  10. Anyone who is feeling down wants a laugh and doesn't mind rude language, find Fascinating Aida singing "Dogging". Philip was nearly in tears with laughter listening to them. There is another they've done but I won't recommend that one, it's extremely bad language. Philip keeps in touch with the people he used to work with, and a few weeks ago was Skyped by one of his female friends, saying her husband kept having bad headaches and now blackouts and was going for an MRI scan. She messaged Philip again yesterday, Sean had the results of the scan...a tumour, but until he's seen by the relevant department they wont know if it's benign or not. She was asking how he/we cope with knowing I have serious health issues and Philip told her all you can do is live life as normal, until the day that it isn't. I think that's the only way to deal with things, so anyone waiting on a diagnosis (Griff) or with family or friends in that position, act as if everything is fine and hopefully you'll find that it is. Thus ends the sermon for today.

  11. Best of luck with the scans Lol..sardine Sunday.. brilliant Hopefully ruby's eyesight will be back to usual soon. I am going to party party party tonight and for once in my life my mum won't care how much I drink

  12. No, didn't know there were any. My husband is a comedian! Our hamster has turned out to be rather reclusive, Philip was peering into its cage last night and I said any sign? He said yes, a tiny one by his house, it says f off!

  13. I can confirm you are no minger Griff, quite the opposite. And Steve is far too complex a person for it to be as simple as not wanting to be seen with you. Think of him as a rescue dog, where you don't know the full background, and with many issues that need worked through gradually. Which you're doing brilliantly.

  14. I'm sitting in the ward but finally my stats have gone up after loads of oxygen, steroids, antibiotics and 4 sessions on a nebulizer. I might get out tonight. They know I am keen to go. I am loads better and feel grand now. Just waiting for dr to OK it.

  15. 😂😂 Suzeanna. I know a fellow Cumbrian who just cannot be doing with Geordies. He hates the accent & more than once has been set upon by a drunken bunch of them over here on holiday when he was a young man. He took up genealogy later in life so imagine his face the day he found out he was descended from a long line of them on one branch of his family tree 😂😂😂😂

  16. Just checking all is in order because of the trouble my asthma has been giving me Suzeanna. I was always a very "chesty" child and got frequent bouts of bronchitis & had whooping cough as well as the asthma. Oh yes, I've got my diabetes levels right down and if I continue at this rate I will end up out of the diabetic range. I'm going to go for it.

  17. had a busy couple of days last weekend with visitors but they enjoyed themselves, despite the language barrier. It was their first time out of Romania and were amazed at the shades of green in the vegetation. They have grass for a month or two. Outside that it is too hot or too cold. My nephew went gluten free and says he feels much better for it. He is a PE teacher who plays sport in his free time so needs his health and energy. I cut down some overgrown rhododendrons yesterday. They were taking over the bit of garden. The space is bigger now. Some branches were thick and were difficult yo cut, Last night and this morning I could hardly move my right arm. It is slightly better now but my elbow is painful. JIm is still in a lot of pain in his chest. She thinks it is scarring from the drain removal and should resolve itself. After we told her about our last appointment fiasco she contacted the oncologist and he agreed to another CT and blood test before his appointment on Tuesday. Only problem was the CT machine was broken. It was fixed on Friday so a scan was arranged for Monday. I think she is just being cautious- I hope so. Meantime he is dozed up with Morphine and anti inflammatories and spends more time asleep then awake. I hope you can return to normal life soon , griff. Having nightmare neighbours is no fun. You should be able to lead your own life without interference from people like that.

  18. Very sad Griff. Poor man, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Very happy to help Owl whenever. Just shout 👍 I sent my DNA sample off today though they've changed the collection times so I missed today's collection. It will take 6-8 weeks anyway from when they get the sample. I may be told that I am related to some archaic grain as I noticed a tiny bit of my breakfast went in the pot. I had gluten free flakes made from foodstuffs typical of an iron age diet. They were shite 🙁

  27. Thanks again for your thoughts. It sounds like it went as well as it could with a shortened service and limited amount of mourners.hing had to be held outdoors so luckily it stayed dry. Hate mushy peas - they should be illegal. Dogs have decided to get a bit lively now that it's settling down time. Nick is leading the fun lol.

  28. Philip was chatting to Tracy just now when he was walking Candy and she was walking Cookie. She's the one who had a double mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. She said the healing was going ok but it was still very sore and hurt inside and they just don't feel like hers! He assured her they look fine (strange chats, my husband has!) Then a woman came out of her house, ready to join in the clap for the NHS, wearing her dressing gown and flung it open to display what she was wearing underneath...he said he beat a quick retreat before anyone else joined in! Honestly..it's not safe out there for a male on his own.

  29. Best wishes for Ruby xxx Legs are killing me after another two hours of walking today. Certainly getting me fit having a young dog again 🐶 Work is manic as we're a man down and I'm having to pick up a lot of the work as well as my own projects, which are busy enough as it is. Walking Jac is my way of de-stressing. He's got a lovely new friend called Clive. They luffs each other 😍 We're going to Rivington on Saturday. Been wanting to go for ages but never quite made it so I'm quite excited.

  30. Thanks Marion, might do that but I have to do some work with Jac first as he's a bit scared of people so a pub isn't the ideal environment 🙄 but I am working to get him more used to them and he'll probably be ok as long as we can sit outside. suzeanna that would be great, hopefully we'll get some sunny weather and we can get something arranged. There's a six month old Newfoundland who was following Jac about on our walk this afternoon. She loves him but he tends to ignore her. Doesn't stop her though and she is thoroughly adorable 🥰 Just had a chat with the lady at Dogs Trust and Lily's met her new owners today, who've been on the waiting list for a pup since November. She'll be the only dog so will be the centre of attention. Shes currently sharing a kennel with a 10 month old German Shepherd and apparently they've been curling up together 🥰

  31. I got to the funeral at right time, day and place. Very good send off for a fellow volunteer at Muddy Fork and Idle Valley. Lots of people attending. I thought the burial would be in the new cemetery but it was the older one at the end of my garden and he is buried just over the fence from my place. So I told the team I would always make sure there was a pot of flowering plants on the grave.

  33. Trouble started already. Out in street in dressing gown, trying to slow traffic as a small dog was running scared and lost. We tried to head it into a garden but no chance. I posted on village forum and hope an owner will come forward. I was having a lazy morning and just about to get in shower when I saw it from window. Usually I am decently dressed long before this time. May now get reputation for being drunk, demented. drugged up or possibly all three. I was there slowing down traffic. At least I caught the drivers' attention until it got off the main road.

  34. It seems trite after Griff's problems to tell you that our power failed in the wee small hours. Anything plugged into sockets switched off although we did have overhead lights still working, thank goodness. At 2.30 this morning I found myself up a step ladder trying to access our not very accessible fuse board. The 30w fuse kept tripping out. I gave up in the end & went & got a few hours sleep. Our regular electrician is away in Yorkshire but was decent enough to call me back around 9am and talk me thro what to do. Long story short our big fridge freezer is goosed ☹ Of course the freezer was pretty full. I rang our local appliance chap on the off chance he was working - he was. If he has the right sort of item in stock he'll deliver it the same day, fit it and take the old one away. He's bloody brilliant. Well he doesn't keep the big American fridge freezers in stock, as they are too expensive to keep a decent range of them but he can get us one. Great. We were happy with that but then he said he'd lend us something to save running around friends, family & neighbours with our frozen food. 45 minutes later he was here with an under-the-counter size freezer AND a fridge as he said it was no good trying to do without the fridge. The freezer is 2nd hand but it's a brand new fridge! He refused any sort of payment, even though we said we would happily pay to rent them, he refused petrol money, he refused money for his time. He'll get his office lady to send us some brochures when she returns to work in the new year and we'll definitely be ordering our new appliance from him. All our other major appliances are from him. This is the sort of person who should be getting a gong in the new years honours. And he's like this with everyone. It's how he does business. He should give classes.

  35. I'm glad to read that Wispa is improving Owl but sorry you missed the cattle drive. Eve I like the sound of haggis bon-bons. It's nice to have a sofa day every once in a while. I took Tye out this morning (bloody sick of numpty dog owners though who let their dogs run up to him when he's on-lead) and glad I did so early as the weather changed not long after. It's gone wet and cold. We were planning another walk this afternoon but decided to stay put. We might have a street walk before bed IF it isn't too wet. We are having a warm-up Xmas dinner tonight and then tomorrow I will make a Turkey and ham pie with the left overs. Have a nice evening everyone 👍

  38. That sounds perfect Owl Had my phone appointment with my own GP. First thing she said was "wow, you gave everyone a scare last week". Anyway she's booked me in to the asthma clinic on Tuesday just before my flu jab appointment but told me if I start having any sort of problem before then to call. Receptionists know to put me right through.

  40. Maz you're always helpful to know in a crisis 💐 After googling I found how to drain it from the bottom thingy, which still flooded the place BUT I did find a bit of detritus in there which I removed and now it's working again. Shame I ruddy ordered a new one which I paid for with instant vouchers I bought which are non-refundable. I will take delivery of it anyway and give the old one to someone in need.

  41. I hope I am allowed to add a very unsuitable present received by a friend and neighbour when I lived in rural Wales. She and her partner had recently moved there and she could not drive. Buses were few and I often gave her a lift to go shopping, but her partner who spent most of the time working away wanted to give her some independence. Without saying anything, he bought a pony which he figured would be suitable to drive in a trap. Knowing less than 0 about horses, he went to the local horse auction and was delighted to get one at a bargainous price. Well, an unbroken entire 2 year old colt with no pedigree and no manners would be pretty cheap. Friend was less than happy, especially when the pony chased her round the field. We did manage to find him a suitable home, where people knew what they were doing and eventually sorted him out.

  42. I've been to the doc's and have to have a chest x-ray at our local cottage hospital. My GP put the x-ray request in the computer system. The radiographer is at the hospital every morning 9.30 to 12.30, no appointment necessary, just turn up and you'll be seen. Brill!

  43. I did. My mum and dad were lovely. Strict but fair and I had a great childhood. Not much money but loads of fun and lots of love. Late teens/adulthood not so good, but that was my fault not theirs. A rebel without a cause and they bailed me out every time. I won't say there were no recriminations as there was but I deserved them lol. Big hugs to all who had a difficult and unhappy childhood.

  45. at Suzeanne. George and I once chanced on a courting couple in a wood close to were we lived at the time. I had no choice but to walk past them as we were on a circular walk and had done 2/3rds of it by the time we got to them going at it against a tree. As George and I walked by I don't know what possessed me but I found myself saying "afternoon, nice day for it" Thank dawg George didn't feel the need to investigate! A cold nose up the chaps bum might have cooled his ardour a tad

  46. Overcast and a bit cooler here. This evening we are going to the reserve not only for walk but to meet a member of the Doglost team from down south. She and her dogs are at a camp for sprockers and their people in a field next to the reserve. I have only met her online, never face to face. I went to the nearest services on the M1 to hand over a box of K9 goodies to a transporter who was on his way to a rescue in Yorks. In the car park there was this silver haired guy who got a skateboard out of his car and started whizzing about in the car park, in and out of cars. Probably the male equivalent of the wearing purple with a red hat brigade.
