Rehoming From 'home' Not Kennels/foster?

Can anyone offer advice please? I have been asked to try and rehome a GSD girl. Her dad isnt very well and can't cope with her, but he does love her and wants to rehome her from home not kennels. Some might remember the flatcoat pup I asked about a few weeks ago. Well he went and was returned within a few hours for being bouncy  so now dad has decided Freya would be more suitable to rehome as Flatcoat is very calm at home and his girlfriend can cope with him along with her dog! I have met her and she is lovely and very amenable, well trained, spayed etc, 3yrs old and looks healthy. I would have had her like a shot if it wasnt for grumpy Neo. I love GSD' and she has such an adorable personality, just loves her cuddles. She is said to be child friendly too but I havent tested this so would say no young kids as she can get pretty bouncy. The only visitors she has now are my friends who have been helping out with walking her so she gets very excited by visitors. Her dad did say that she likes to be top dog but is pretty calm about it and has been very good with the pup (he is about a year now I think). She is also tennis ball obsessed so makes for easy training if necessary. So are there any rescues that do rehome from home rather than kennels/foster homes? Going to be a difficult one I think but he will not rush her going until he gets right home for her.

The local rescues I know will all advertise direct rehoming and help/support/asess etc....but they may make a charge in advance because it is an easy situation to abuse ( I know you wouldnt) and some have got a bit fed up with the number of incidents where they do a lot of work and then ignored or bypassed. So you will have to ask nicely. i am sure you will be alright.

Fee, thanks. The link doesnt work but I have heard of Prodogs. Thought they were a pointy organisation. I will look them up. :flowers:

Lester, thats the difficult part. I could pass the details to local rescues (to him) but if only one then that restricts her homing possibilities and if more then could be wasting their time.

But they do all talk to one another and know who has a list of wants , as most of them specialise. I dont think they want sole rights.

Many of the German Shepherd rescues would happily do this - there are pro's & cons* for the dogs & potential owners in my opinion & it also saves them paying for kennelling fees. A volunteer would visit the dog to make an independant assessment of nature / behaviour, apparent condition etc

I'm not sure where you are but if local enough & you have a look on their website or through some of the dogs they've listed on Oldies Club previously you'll find The Ark in Lincolnshire also homes some dogs from home.

* On the plus side the dog is in familiar surroundings not stressing in kennels, as some do, can be seen in a family setting etc

On the downside I think you'll find that most of these dogs will never be vet checked before rehoming (though to be fair that may also be true of some dogs in kennels too)
