smirnoff
Just wondered if anyone has come across this before. A friend of mine has an Aussie Shepherd. Her carpal pads (where the dew claw would be if she had them) are really hairy, and I find it quite freaky. You know when you look at the pads you see like little pinheads, its almost like those have grown, looks like a see anemone, very freaky. Is this normal???? It doesn't seem to be causing any problems but it looks really odd! Diane
Fee
Not sure about proper hair on pads, but there is a condition (who's name I can't remember) where the keratin that the pad is made of grows excessively and gives the appearance feathering or 'hairs', it can affect their noses as well. ETA - just googled and it's called Nasodigital Hyperkeratosis. Edited October 14, 2010 by Fee

smirnoff
I told my friend about this condition and she's looked it up - it's definitely that thing - nasodigital hyperkeratosis. I can't imagine what it would like coming out of the poor dog's nose!!!! Anyway she's very grateful and off to the vets this morning. Thank you!
