Caesar Milan - Advocate Or Foe?

Given his varied reputation, a few days ago, out of curiosity, I picked up a copy of Caesar's way in the local library.

There are aspects of his book I agreed with & aspects I totally disagreed with but he appears to strongly advocate a deed not breed ethos, for example

He suggests pack leaders are born not made but that dangerously aggressive dogs are made not born.

That large & strong dogs of any breed can be well socialised as puppies or alternatively allowed / caused to get out of hand / control, become dangerous etc.

The book appears to have been written in 2005 & whether you love or hate his methods the guy is obviously hugely known so I was left wondering whether he has ever had any involvement in a deed not breed type body anywhere in the world?

I can imagine what you mean though opposing ideas wouldn't necessarily stop me reading / considering someones ideas.

Part of the reason I asked / wondered was in the back of his book is a Caesar recommends / organisations to tun to section (not, as far as I'm aware people who recommend him & possibly compiled by the UK publisher?) Dog lost are in there along with the likes of RSPCA, Dogs Trust, PDSA, Blue Cross & many more.

Perhaps organisations such as DNB could gain awareness /reach more of those who have type dogs & are Milan readers / watchers if you were in such lists?

I watch a lot of Cesar Millan, and he is definitely anti BSL, he takes on many pitbulls in the states considered dangerous dogs, and rehabilitates them to live in his pack.

He also does a lot of work with the American Humane Society working with dogs they can't rehome, helping them with their issues.

I think he's fantastic - admittedly, there are a few things I have seen him do that I disagree with, but on the whole, his approach; that is, understanding a dog's mind, and being a calm assertive leader I believe to be a really good one.

He has a show on Sky 3 at 7pm every week day evening, if you see any of them, it might help you consider what you think - there was a repeat on tonight where they were helping a dog to be a service dog (called Sparky) and there is a really good scene in there where he takes the woman, who is anti-pitbull based purely on ignorance, and they spend some time with just those dogs - its amazing and heartwarming to see just one more person change their opinion - I'm sure you can see clips on youtube :) x
