Little Duke the 13 year old Collie Cross is back in Oldies Club care as the family that recently adopted him can no longer keep him; they were extremely upset to have to part with him. Duke is now in an Oldies Club foster home near Belper in Derbyshire.

Duke originally came into Oldies Club care in October 2008 when his original owners had an unfortunate change of circumstances and weren’t able to care for him. He was bewildered and terrified when he first arrived but soon settled and enjoyed his time in his foster home, as you can see in this

.

Duke is a lively 13 year old who loves to be out in the garden with you. He also enjoys long walks and loves playing ball with the other dogs in his foster home. He also likes to carry a cuddly toy around, wagging his tail.

He’s also partial to a swim, but you need to take care as he gives the impression that he may get carried away and disappear over the horizon! He also has a passion for catching flies and is quite the expert.

Duke is an intelligent, gentle little dog who has a sweet temperament. However, the many changes of environment he’s had recently have left their mark and he does have some insecurities. We are therefore looking for an experienced owner for Duke who will help him through the transition into another home and will bear in mind his fears.

Duke just wants to be your best friend and be with you. His ideal home would be with someone around a lot of the time who understands that he is a sensitive boy and needs to be allowed plenty of time to settle into his new life. Duke can be left for a couple of hours but he does get anxious and barks. This might improve once he is settled in his new home though, and the family that adopted him previously reported that he did seem to be improving and had stopped barking when left.

Duke is well behaved and he knows lots of commands — he seems to have been taught some party tricks in the past! He is very clean in the house and he settles well at night; he likes to sleep in his own bed in the bedroom. He is quite good on the lead and he just pulls a little at first. Off lead, he stays close by. Duke gets on well with dogs and he is said to be used to living with cats and children. However, he does show an interest in chasing cats when out and about, and we also wouldn’t want to rehome him where they are young children.

Duke is in good health and he is neutered, vaccinated and flea and worm treated. When he first came into our care, he had a long-standing skin condition caused by a flea allergy for which he was prescribed antibiotics and medicated baths. His skin has now cleared up completely and his hair has grown back beautifully. His new owner will simply need to keep his flea treatment up to date. Duke has a small lump on his side but the vet said it is nothing to worry about.

Can you offer this adorable little boy the love, dedication and experienced care that he so deserves?
