vickiem30
Oscar has cut his leg on his walk. I've cleaned it up ,but it is quite deep. I'm worried that he has caught it on barbed wire or a nail or something. He's being really brave, he keeps showing me it and licking it. Does he need a tetnus shot? I feel pretty bad dragging the vet out on a Sunday to look at a cut; so I thought I'd post on here before ringing her. I am an anxious mother, so they are used to me! merledogs
If it were me I'd ring the vet for advice and see whether they think it's worth going in or whether it can wait
DanishPastry
I don't know about tetanus, but if it is that deep, he may well need some antibiotics, so a phonecall to the vet would be in order I'd say.
vickiem30
I think you're right, I'll give them a ring now.
redditchlady
I'd tend to agree with Ann. Antibiotics, especially if Oscar is licking it. I hope it soon heals up. Kazz xx
ReikiAnge
Hope he is ok If you can't get to the vet until tomorrow, bathing it in salt water should help keep it clean until then. Let us know how he's doing?
vickiem30
Hi I've spoken to the vet and he's going first thing. He probably will need antibiotics, just to be on the safe side. I've bathed it in saltwater, thanks for the suggestion. It's now covered in zinc and caster oil to keep it clean and it's not bleeding, which is a relief. He's been on the sofa feeling sorry for himself all afternoon and had his meals brought to the sofa. My Mum called to see how he was and he forgot himself and was jumping up all over her! He's obviously feeling better, bless him.
