This is awful. There was a similar, failed, incident reported in Dog World this week:

"!ROBBERS intent on stealing dogs have struck in separate incidents.

In the first incident a man was walking his Bulldog in Ingatestone, Essex, when a van passed him and parked a little way ahead. Two men in their 30s waited for him to pass them, one in the van and one on the pavement. When he drew close the one on the pavement told him to give him the bitch or he would kill her.

The owner refused and the man attacked him with a Stanley knife, cutting his legs and arm. The bitch, who had always been extremely laid-back, then attacked the man wielding the knife and forced him onto the ground, on his back. The man then ran back to the van and drove away and the owner received hospital treatment for his wounds.

In the second incident a woman was walking two dogs in Norwich when she was approached by two men who pushed her over and stole the dogs. One is a 12-year-old black and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier bitch called Rebecca, and the other is a nine-month-old, black, white and brindle Stafford/Bulldog cross called Kuga."

Message from bulldog rescue:

Ruby was returned to her owners over the weekend of 5/6th July when the

people that had bought her realised they had the missing dog. The matter is

now in the hands of the police but needless to say the owners are overjoyed

at the return of their little girl.

That's great. Lucky she was bought by honest people - I feel sorry for them, I expect they had fallen in love with her already :( There's so many people hurt by these thefts, not to mention the trauma for the dog :grrr:
