safneo
What dog do you have? And what kind of things do you need to train? If its a young dog, 'The perfect Puppy' by Gwen Bailey is always a good place to start. (also if its an older dog and a new owner) Clicker training books are always good too. There are loads about. Anything by Karen Pryor is good.

celeste
You can't go wrong with any of Ian Dunbar's books, or Kay Lawrence is good for clicker training, both easy to read and great advice, Ian's are particularly good. If you want something a bit more meaty I would recommend Jean Donaldsons The Culture Clash as a good starting point.
spottycharlie
I second The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey, excellent book which will take you all the way through to adult dogs, its a book you will refer to all the time.
