EAD
Can anyone tell me how to identify cocoa mulch? Is there a strong smell from it? Just googled it and it looks very similar to other mulchs. New house im interested in has mulch in the back garden and I want to check its ok for dogs before the move. Maria
It does smell very chocolatey to start with, but the smell can decline with age. Maybe better to have a visual comparison?
blackmagic
Cocoa mulch is the shell of the cocoa bean so it looks like shell cases. Can you go to a garden centre and find a broken bag? There was usually at least one at our local garden centre. Alternatively, take some to a garden centre and ask them to identify it. When you first put it down it goes sticky when its get wet, and forms a solid surface but if it has been down for a while that may have been broken up.
