heva Posted January 7, 2007 Report Share Posted January 7, 2007 im a christian so yeah to me it is a christian celebration although it really does make me sad to see the true value's lost!!! I went to a friends (a teacher) school christingle sp?!? service this year (a 'church school') and was stood at the back as was so busy. next to be was a granny, daughter and grandaughter (about3/4yrs old) when all the children got handed out there oranges.....adn the vicar said his little talk...(which granny ignored and read her hymn sheet) little girl asked... gran whats this candle mean and the sweets...... its too keep kids quite while he talks doesnt it mean anything NO well whats the candle for its dark sometimes so why do we get them coz we always have now shut up!!! i was so angry!!!! she had the sheet infront of her explaining it....she could of told this little girla nice little story about christ (whether she believed it or not) and made a nice story of christmas and why we shoudl all be nice to each other........was gutted!!!!! for first time ever in my life i didnt go midnight mass or morning service as we all had a rotten bug over christmas and i felt totally lost!!!! still feelin a little now!!
