Minski had a simlar reaction with her flu jab as well. I ended up holding her bucket to get her to eat and her whole chest came up in teh same swelling as Mist's pony. She only had a bad reaction because she was so poorly and run down at the time. I was going to wait until I got her home and she was better before I got her done and she wasn't due till then anyway, but the college got her vaccinated without me knowing. She has continued with her vaccinations since, but she has never been ill with they are due.

Well done to Wanda

Obe sounds a bit of a nightmare!

I have not had a reaction to vaccinations, but given that humans can, it seesm to make sense to me that horses can too.

It could be that she is just a bit rundown at the mo - there is a lot of rape and tree pollen about - Nemo's breathing is always awful this tiime of the year, although it is fine now that he is out 24/7. Hope she is feeling better soon.

We are having another crisis - Had saddler out today as I have had a sneaky feeling that Rolo's saddle was not right for some time now (yes, this is the one that I only bought about 2 months ago  ). Yup - does not fit at all. So, he has just outgrown his 3rd saddle since the start of December  He has gone from Medium wide to extra wide in that time! Unfortunately, she does not sell saddles, as she was subperb - much more impressive than the woman I have had before, but has given me some names to contact. She laughed and said that she was glad she wasn't fitting him - he is a nightmare - she thinks I may have to have one made for him as he is a very difficult build. Marvellous!! So, no riding for the timebeing, but we did manage to lunge him yesterday (barricaded him in!), so I guess we will have to work on that instead. Annoying, as we were starting to get our act together out hacking, but I do not want him to get a sore back again.

Oooh, but I did managed to clip 2 more legs last night!! This will be like painting the Forth Road Bridge - by the time I get the 4th done, it will be time to start the first again!

 extra wide!! he must have filled out a bit! any pics?

thats really interesting that you mentioned rape pollen. the farmers are growing more rape round here this year and the farmer at the bottom of the track to work has a big field full of rape so thats a possibility. They are getting some sort of inhaler for her which is used with one of those sort of masks u get at boots for babies. My friend who is just graduating from RVC said the vaccines can have an effect but no more than 3 days later and normally when the system is not 100% to begin with as when they get the vaccine thier system has to spend time dealing with that so probably makes her more rundown. I think she will be retired soon hopefully.

I came perilously close to losing Nemo to a pollen allergy the first autumn he was here (Not too sure what pollen ia about in the autumn, but there you go!)

He was on steroids for ages, but they are prone to causing laminitis, so probably not a good idea. Last year we managed to keep it under control by just using Ventapulmin - bloomin expensive, but it seems to work - I normally have an emergency stock of both steroids and Ventapulmin, just in case.

Hope she is OK :flowers:

I have just spoken to the saddler recommended by the saddler that came out this morning. There is hope!! They seem to specialise in tricky shapes - they are miles away, but will send me one on 7 days trial, based on photos and the info from the saddler this morning - they will take it back if it is not right - even if they have had to make it up specially. Off to have a look at their site now, and see what I like!

Will have to take photos tonight from all angles to send saddler, so brace yourselves for piccies of the skewbald hippo!!

Right , brace yourselves

They are not very good as I was trying to get him done in between showers - think I will have to try again tomorrow!

Think the shavings in his tail are very fetching! I think he has changed loads from that photo in his advert - have got that somewhere, will have to dig it out.

The backside one made me laugh - the saddler wanted it so that she could see his withers - I am too short and his backside is too big! (I did get one in the end, by standing on a stool! )

The next two aren't for the saddler - they are for me! This is my Roly Mo waiting to go out:

And here are both my boys - Nemo is in the background. (That rug did fit Rolo about 6 weeks ago  )

Ooo he is looking well, what a difference! I love the pic of him peeking around the corner

I can see why your friend thinks he will do well showing

Being nosey what saddle was recommended?

Loki is being freezemarked today, given his track record I am a bit worried his shoulder will fall off or something  I have wimped out and delegated the appointment to OH

The company is called Saddle Exchange Saddle exchange

Saddler said he has such a big shoulder that I need a straight cut - they have recommended the Glen or the Pioneer - I quite liked some of the smaller WH saddles, but, I think the days of me squashing my bum in to a 16" saddle are over!

Good luck with the freezemarking - I had Rolo chipped in the end, as there is no where that he could easily be freezemarked - we did it while he was sedated for clipping, so we cheated!

He will be fine! :flowers:

Nice saddles  They both look really comfy, how long do you think it will be until the saddle is made and sent to you?

Loki is chipped as well, not that I am over protective of anything  Like you, we cheated and had him done on one of the many occasions recently where he has been sedated  I am glad he was sedated the size of the needle :sick01:

Morning all.

Tried to catch up...but failed!! Hope all are well? Rolo looks BEAUTIFUL!!!! A perfect cob bottom!!   (Go treeless...go treeless... ).

Weelllllll...left my boy for the first time! I felt sick just knowing I wasn't going to see him for a week, but of course he was fine. Lynn said he missed me but I think that was just for my sake...cos when I saw him saturday he wasn't bothered really!! Came trotting over when he saw my car, then as soon as he realised I had no treats buggered off again!!!

So..quick update, I went riding when I was on my holidays..lovely place, nice cobs to ride and the most fantastic 200 acre private forest with brill tracks to be silly on!! And ....I did a XC course!!!!!! The horse was a lovely little jumper and the lady who took me out said I was more than capable ( ) so I thought oh why not!! It was amazing...although I had to admit it really made me think about me and Kane, I realised I wanted to do so much more but with him it wasn't going to be possible in the near future. Anyway came home full of idea's and plans, only for him to absolutely shatter me on sunday. :mecry:

I had planned on sunday to pamper him, do some schooling and generally spend the day with him. I bought him up to the tack room and within minutes he went absolutely nuts and threw me against the wall...then proceeded to stamp on my foot!!! I'm afraid I lost it...threw his saddle (not at him) and went into the tack room and cried like a baby!! (Believe me I don't cry easily!!) I rang my friend and arranged to meet her for a chat, and just put him back in the field (actually he dragged me round the garden first). I met my friend and asked if she would take him on loan as I just couldn't cope, she said she would of course, but first she was happy to come to me once a week and help me by schooling with me...by that point I was just so upset I didn't know what to do. Anyway I had arranged to go on a hack with Lynn and her friend Monday morning, she text me monday asking if I was still going, I ignored it!!! She then rang and I said I wasn't going because I didn't trust him and didn't want to spoil their ride...she told me off, and said that I was being stupid!! So I thought, I'll go and if he misbehaves I'll just get off and walk him home...and then I'll know for definate that it's time for me to make a big decision!! So get to the yard...Lynn has Kane already caught and tied up (she has never been able to catch him before) he gave me a HUGE winny...and was a dream to tack up...went on a 3 hour hack...he led the whole ride, forward going and responsive...and guess what............I adore him and of course he's staying!!!!! Why do we do this???

Yay good to have you back, hope you had a lovely holiday :flowers:

Ah the bad behaviour after you have been on holiday trick, reading that took me back to a similar episode with my last horse, I went bounding down the field to see her after a week away, gave her her treats and once they had all gone she promptly struck me with her foreleg and screamed  I walked off leant on the gate and sobbed.

Glad to hear Kane's sulks only lasted a day, now you can put your ideas and plans into action :flowers:
