Ruthi (borrowadog)
Tiger and I (and various visitors) have just returned from week in a lovely cottage at Moorshead farm in South Glamorgan, about 45 minutes from the Severn Bridge. We had a one-bedroom cottage which also had a nice sofa bed in the living room, and a wood-burner. Everything in the way of facilities you could possibly imagine, lovely flowers on the table, and a resident bossy lurcher girl (not in the cottage, you understand, she lives in the farm). There are bigger cottages too. The only slight downside was the lack of an enclosed garden, although there are two big fields for quick pee breaks just off the yard. The chickens run free in the fields, but Tiger didn't notice them! Moorshead farm is in Sigingstone, halfway between Cowbridge (deli, pubs, antique shops) and Llantwit Major (seaside town, all basic amenities, more pubs). Since Tiger isn't interested in antiques we spent most of our time walking the coastal paths, or down on Llantwit beach, which goes on for miles at low tide(dogs allowed October to March). Locals walk their dogs off-lead on the lanes (wonderful wooded, fern-bedecked glades!) and I did the same. Not a good idea if your dog has poor recall because you will need to call it back occasionally when cars creep by. Not all pubs are dog friendly, but the Horseshoe at Marcross, and the Star at Wick both are and were our favourites. And the beer is good too! The Star was particularly notable for the fact that they understand that a rare steak should be RARE, but the Horseshoe played better music! Ignore what it says on the website about dog numbers. You are welcome to bring as many as will fit in. John asks that if they are of the furniture eating variety that you don't leave them unsupervised! They are pretty fully booked, and the wonderful weather we had is not absolutely guaranteed.
