  1. Taking my mum with me on sunday to drool on all the pointy types. Yes - badges, we need badges!
  2. Bloody thing ate my edit! *Grr* What I was adding was that as others have said, it should be horses for courses, of course a pup is more difficult to place with working families but with rescues having a blanket "no" on rehoming adult dogs to full time workers they are likely to discourage a lot of people from rescue dog, perhaps missing out on fantastic forever homes for their dogs too. I mean, how many people are there that can afford to not work full time? And of those that do, most that are serious about wanting a dog will have made arrangements for the dogs care when they're at work.
  3. When we first got Tyler-whuupet OH worked late shifts so he was never alone for more than 2 hours before I was back from work in the evening and he got a walk morning and evening (one from each of us). Now OH is back on 9-5 we take it in turns to pop home and let him out/give him a quick walk/surprise him as-he's-so-fast-asleep-he-hasn't-heard-us-come-in at lunches. There are the odd days when something unexpected happens and neither of us can get back to him til 5 and I spend all afternoon fretting about him, so one day I set up the webcam to record him and what does he do - sleep! All day. *I* feel better about coming home and seeing him in the day, playing with him and walking him etc but sometimes I do wonder which is likely to stress *him* more: being alone all day or someone leaving him twice.
  4. Tyler is 35.2, 0.1 years younger. Apparently it claims he has poor feeding practices (he only eats meat once a day at the moment as he's being a fussy bugger, though he has access to dry food all day), may be lacking in proper nutrition (he's a whippet and that's his body shape!) and suffers from me not using a leash Hmm, funny, i wonder what that long thing with the harness on the end is then... *shakes out huge pinch of salt to take*
  5. Tyler is miffed that he didn't get his own bacon sandwich this morning, but was instead fed a bit of mummy's. He is now waiting for us get get dressed and take him somwhere exciting, preferably with other animals he can bark at, (this excitement is cleverly disguised as being asleep under the duvet).
  6. I'm watching Gordon's Kitchen doodah and at the state of that kitchen! And I need a wee. There, that was random and mundane... (edited to put some flippin punctuation in...)
  7. OH just announced he has weighed his willy on my kitchen scales!!! edited to add: i have almost wee'd at the thought of that. Especially given kitchen worktops are normally quite tall...
  8. Hello everyone Claz, have you tried doing interval training on your airwalker? Instead of doing 20-30 mins at a medium level of effort, do short bursts where you're working at nearly maximum and then then lower intensity for a few mins. Its like the run one minute, walk one minute training idea, it helps your cardiovascular fitness improve quite quickly. Eugh, am having the first day off work properly ill in ages. Not sure if its IBS or if I overdid it in the garden yesterday. I don't understand how gardening is so popular with old ladies, I'm 26 and feel like I've been through a mangle just by doing a little bit yesterday

    Dog food

Sounds like a good plan, pig lugs are a current favourite and he's not on a diet! You know, its not 'til I sat and actually wrote that that out I thought "hmm maybe I should change his dinner time". Thanks Alex

    Dog food

Hmm, reading this with interest as Tyler seems to be alternating between being absolutely fine and having that gurgly-tummy not-eating-my-dinner woe-is-me thing every week and he's currently on Lamb Nature Diet and Burgess Supadog sensitive. I don't know whether its the food perhaps sitting round at room temperature for too long or if he's picking something up from the garden or the park. His poos are normally fine, he's just getting gurgly and is occasionally sick. Often its just bile and a bit of grass (does anyone know the definitive answer about dogs and grass eating?!) He's quite a fussy eater (unless its something off my dinner plate ) and will come and have a look at his breakfast but often won't eat it until late afternoon. I know its not ideal to have it sat out all day getting warm and stale but sometime he *does* eat it all up in the day and I hate to take that opportunity away from him. He seems more up for eating his dinner when given it at tea-time (well, within an hour and checking we're not eating anything nicer). So I don't know whether to give him all his food at tea-time, or to give his meat separately so I can put it in the fridge while we're out or what. Any ideas?
  11. So much sadness this evening for fugees My heart goes out to you all I do have a non-RMF that I have to share though, my lovely lovely boss and his lovely gorgeous wife are expecting their first baby! They're both such wonderful people I feel like I'm going to burst for them both.
  12. RMWoe: what was looking like a nice trip to a conference in the summer is now going to backfire on me Had to write an abstract for my poster submission to the conference- fine, had to run it past our collaborators- ok, now its come back with proper science-speak in it. I don't *do* proper speak, I make stuff work when no-one else can, thats my special skill. I think I'm gonna look a bit fick if people ask me about hetero-oligomeric proteins at the presentation
  13. Tyler's Equafleece jumper. Keeps his baldy belly warm and clean so I don't have to bath him after every walk in the mud! (gratuitous Ty shot...)
  14. RMF: I have just eaten a double decker in about 3 seconds flat, I think that may be a personal best (and I bloody needed it!)
  15. Regina Spektor Her music is the only thing keeping me sane at work at the moment
  16. ditto! im debating whether to start something now which may be fruitless, or do it after my coffee break - bearing in mind its free "social" coffee at 11 here decisions decisions.... (edited to add: that was to jacqui d, but I'm sure some recruitments agents are crap Cheryl )
  17. OH Fearnley-Whittingstall says its measure using the top edge diameter.
  18. bless He's so curious! What a lovely video to have! Tyler-whuppet loves balloons since we brought some helium ones home from a party once and he discovered that if you poke them they bob back in your face and that they float *just* out of reach, but with ingenuity you can catch the little blighters. He plays with them til they pop then shakes the chuff out of the bits just to make sure they're properly dead and then wants nothing more to do with it. Thank god he's not interested in eating them, just chasing them, cuz I worry like Ange says about bits getting stuck if he eats them.
  19. Harness on the backseat/boot (depending on what other stuff's in the car) attached to a d-ring thing we have in the car.
  20. I always had tonsilitis when I was a child (well it bloody felt like it!) and I remember having the spots quite clearly Was supposed to be going to my first pilates class this morning but think I overdid it on the mojitos last night and am not safe to drive there let alone be bendy for an hour piddle.
  21. I ordered 2 dresses from the Bravissimo sale (£15 reduced from £49 each!) and they arrived today, *and* they fit, *and* its nice to wear something that doesnt feel tight across my chest - yay for boob room!
  22. RMF: I have just moved the plants around in my office and given them a big drink and they have perked up quite considerably - one was rescued from the "boys" office where it was watered with cold coffee for 3 months, I think it prefers it in here!
