  1. Are there any members in the Newcastle area who have calm, well socialised, adult dogs (age 2-4+) who would be willing to help socialise Winnie? She's 12 weeks old, and the only dog friend we have is Polo the staffie, who is not always dog friendly (they have met, and Polo was distressed/growling). I don't drive, so places easily accessible via public transport (eg. central or west Newcastle) would be ideal. Leazes Park or similar perhaps? Or if you know of any other good dog areas easy to get to - recommendations welcome, as we don't know Newcastle very well (we live in West Denton). Winnie is proving a cocky little madam, so a patient dog is a must - as Winnie will bounce all over and growl/bark at them (we're working on it at puppy classes but she's very excitable). Can anyone help?

    Hey Up

Who could forget him? He was so gorgeous, I was wondering how he was doing! Sky, my old cowbag of a lurcher and total soul mate, passed away a couple of years ago (she had pancreatitis). Blu the rescuedane died suddenly from a heart attack in 2010, he was only 7 and a half. I've been dog free since then, so it's lovely to have a canine pal again. I'm dying to take her for long walks in the countryside but, with her being a large breed, I've been told she can't yet. Sorry to hear of your loss, your mad pointery beast sounds gorgeous, I love dogs with jobs too! There was a beautiful pointer at the cat and dog shelter earlier in the week (my oldest sister is looking for an old plodder so she wasn't suitable for them), she was a stunner. I wanted to bring her back, but one dog is enough for me now! I'm back in Newcastle, and while my house is an ugly pebble dashed council job, the garden is mostly paved (and we have a shed!), and there's a Jollye's two minutes up the road one way, and a shopping centre and Morrisons (and pool, and doctors) two minutes the other way. And we're registered at our old vets again, so that's nice :-)
  3. Puppy classes next week!

    Hey Up

Thanks for the welcome xx I've found her a collar and lead now, got the collar from Monkey Dog Wear, and the lead (purple training lead, like the TRPD euro ones) on eBay. Just in the process of spending far too much money on treats and training accessories for class next week....lol.

    Hey Up

Thank you, it has been tough but we're getting there. Mick is an alcoholic, so it wasn't fair on the kids to be around that any more. It's been a long time coming, been trying to live with it for years, making excuses for his behaviour. So yeah, while it's been really hard, the kids are now thriving and are not scared any more, so it's onwards and upwards. Winnie has her second vaccs on Friday, and is being chipped, then it's puppy classes starting next Tues, third vacc at 14 or 16 weeks (can't remember, will ask Friday). Can't wait to be able to take her for walks, all this carrying her about to meet people and socialise her is heavy work! Any recommendations for collar and lead suppliers? I heard TRPD had closed down now (so sorry to hear the sad news).

    Hey Up

No doubt there'll be loads, once I've worked out how to use the gallery...*technologically challenged*...
  7. Sleep, or lack of it.

    Hey Up

Hi guys. LTNS. Thought I'd pop back over and say hello. Been a bit hectic here over the last year or so, especially the last 6 months. As some of you know, Mick was really ill last year, sadly we split in the New Year and I'm now living back up north with the kids. Blu and Sky have long since passed away, we've been dogless for a couple of years now, but nearly 2 weeks ago a little lady came into our lives (in a bit of a rush), Winnie the rottie pup. We're her second home already, and she joined us at 8 weeks, so god knows when she left her "breeder". She's a doll, hard work but worth every second. Anyhoo. Waves. Hope I'm welcome to come and bore you stupid with lots of pics and puppy raising questions?! Hope you're all well xx

    Blu

Thanks everyone. I am grateful he didnt suffer, and whatever it was, it was quick. It's been so hard today. To go from having such a huge (noisy!) presence about, to nothing, it's just all wrong. Nobody barked when I got up, went to the loo, left the room, came into the room (etc etc), when the post came, when someone walked past...etc etc. It's too quiet. And now there's no-one sat staring over my shoulder as I type, or rolling on his back next to me saying "get off the pooter and tickle my belly, woman!". No-one glued themselves to my leg when I made lunch, or dribbled in it as I sat eating it. I hate this. Mick is quiet, says no more. He's a tough bloke, but even he cried last night, which is when it sank in

    Blu

Hey guys, long time no speak. I wish I was updating with a happy thread, but it's really, really not. As some of you might remember, Blu had a few health issues last year with joint problems in all his legs, hips and back plus the beginnings of a dicky ticker, and the vet was surprised he reached Christmas, let alone came off pain relief and got back to his bouncy noisy self. Last night, he was a bit restless and grumbly, nothing that set off major alarm bells as he's often like that, we just assumed another sore night - stayed up with him til he settled, Mick slept on the sofa so that he'd be there if he was needed. He fell asleep some time after 4am, as did Mick, when Mick woke at ten to 7 - Blu didn't. We're heartbroken. Blu was such a great friend and major help through the loss of Sky in Sept 2008, he's the only thing that helped me get through that - or start to. Now I dont have either of them and I'm lost. RIP Blu, we love you very very much, dont let the cranky old cow bite you on the bum at the bridge.
  11. I forgot to update - these boys went to a lovely new home
  12. They're standard fancy rats (aka rattus norvegicus). Their colour variety is dark phase pearl (although the dark one may be silvered mink).
  13. Updated pics, nowhere near the standard of the others I'm afraid as I dont have an SLR camera, just a cruddy point and shoot one. Pearliest boy Middling boy (believe it or not, he has lost weight) Darky boy Still no interest in these boys, which is a real shame, as they're so lovely and cuddly, so licky and sweet, someone is really missing out.
  14. Thanks! I forgot to get more pics, I'll try get some tonight - but they wont be as good as these, as the above pics were taken by Kathy on her super dooper SLR (and mine's a point and shoot naff thing).
  15. Thank you They're still here, despite some people showing initial interest, nothing's solidified into a home yet. Lovely boys, it's a shame. I'll get some more pics at the weekend maybe
  16. Look who's come to stay (until they find a new home)....Puck's three brothers They're a bit (cough splutter) overweight, but it's probably down to a lack of exercise - and contrary to their looks, they are still up for playing and bouncing around (all be it causing mini-earthquakes LOL). Lightest boy left, middling boy right: Lightest boy again (he's pearlier in real life): Darkest boy: As you can see, they're a bit gorgeous (if I do say so myself lol). It's such a shame they've come back, but it's through no fault of their own - they are gorgeous licky boys and will make someone very happy. In the meantime, they're making me very happy, I've not seen them since they were babies and I've been catching up on cuddles Puck looks tiny compared to them - god knows what these have been fed, I even thought about naming them after the Klumps. They take after their dad in that department
  17. I had trouble getting on all yesterday afternoon/evening...
  18. Blu says thank you very much (and drools over the cake LOL). He would like to point out he's "only" black, but the camera flash reflects off the gleam in his coat - nothing better than a lovely shiny black dog, eh? Big headed, much? LOL
  19. Better late than never Terrible mum I am. Blu even had to sing Happy Birthday to himself: And a another verse... What, no pressies? Cant believe it's been a year - and what a funny one. Despite recent events I wouldn't change it for the world, just a shame he cant see in the New Year and his second year here with a companion. A huge thank you to Lissi, Sue, Dawn and Hazel for bringing him into our lives But remind me to pick up a pressie for him...
