  1. Yey, go Katie, fly that Rottie flag high and proud (And congrats to yr Mum and Dad too)
  2. I only ask coz my staffyx we think whippet but def lurcher has reached a crescendo recently of widdling everywhere as soon as you try to put his collar and lead on or look at his cut paw. You also have to be really careful getting him out of the house and into the car or the house gets a good watering....we generally just ignore the wee and continue to deal with him quietly, calmly. He's the 1st dog I've had that shivers with excitement and a whippet lady told me at a show that no, he wasn't cold it's just wot whippets do ? So wondered if it's a breed trait I'm dealing with or a behaviour problem we need to address. Thanks Giz is 22 months old by the way and rescue but he was with Donna from 3 to 6 months and then us so he's had a pretty good puppthood
  3. That is so true. Levi is always seconds off the winning time but he got placed in an intermediate class this year just by being one of very few clears . If your basics are solid and you can churn out the clears then some of them are bound to get rossies. plus would be great to see an Akita out and about- I always watch the handful of Rotties and shepherds that compete it's great to see more unusual ABCs out there
  4. You could also teach targeting in case you want to use this for contact training. Get your pringle lid, put food on iton the floor, teach Max to go to it on command then increase distance from which you send him. He'll love it coz it involves food (altho you can progress to sending to target then treating from hand or with a tug game) and it's a trick upyour sleeve for when Max starts doing contacts if you decide to use it. Your trainer should help you with positioning of target etc when you get to that stage. Also do all that Pam says coz I did most of it with Giz and has all proved useful, especially pushing out round a cone in the garden (choose a command and stick to it- I use 'out' funnily enough, saves brain delay under pressure )
  5. Hi Sandra, ta for reply-definitely not glands, I know that smell well and all mine have fresh bones etc so plenty to naturally squeeze glands. She started on another patch last night so used 1001 spray - slight dip in the carpet but no hole so maybe that's the answer!!
  6. Don't know if anyone has ideas on this? Dixie licks holes in the carpet overnight - 6 in all to date, means we'll be replacing the carpet when we move out and it was new 2 years ago She seems to do it where Giz has been rolling and sometimes a bit of liquid seeps from his rear end altho we're talking a droplet here She is quite obsessive in licking and has in the past licked wounds until we eventually had to muzzle her when on her own I've heard the 'licking toads' theory before and both boys indulge in this habit in the summer, althought Dix is apprently above a spot of amphibian lolly and anyway the boys lick anything til you clean their tongues for them .Dixies habit is nightime with no one present Any ideas? Anyone know of a cheap carpet fitter near Newbury?

    Winter Brags

Gizmo got his 1st rosette on Sunday at an unaff show - came 3rd in Nov/Senior agility . Left a few senior dogs trailing in our wake and course had a couple of tough pulls off tunnels too. Am so proud of my baby boy. Still gotlots to learn though so will continue to take it steady and not push him - we're going to treat 2007 like playtime and if we get any more rossies on the way great, if not well hey, so long as my baby gremlin's enjoying himself !
  9. That's fantastic! You must be well chuffed that all your patience and perseverance has paid off. And you're right, the best bit is definitely thatthewy enjoy it so much

    Agility Kit

There was one see saw that lots of dogs didn't like so were jumping or 'falling' off. They took that out of comission as soon as it was estblished as a problem. Unfortunately then a few dogs had a hang up about see saws by then. I honestly can't see any differnce in the grip on them and other makes or that more than usual dogs were slipping on contacts . Club recently had dogs start jumping off their premier see saw- whencarefully checked was discovered it needed repairing in a very minor way, amazing how sensitive some dogs are to the slightest difference in the way the see saw drops

    Agility Kit

I've got First Contact see saw which is good, and they also do all show equipment for UKA so know their stuff. Also worth contacting Ray Amps at RVA- got some really good channel weaves from them, as good qual as premier but a fair bit cheaper(would say First Contact not as polished but not much in it). RVA website on Agilitynet. Got an A-frame from storm etc place- damaged in transit which they weren't interested in and very flimsy- isn't it funny how everyone has diff experiences of people?

    Oh No!

hi, sorry so late but WOW well done! Tht's amazing!!!
  18. well done you and doglet- sounds like you've got some real consistency going. Won't be long before you're starter no more
  19. Wow, well done to all, what a list of brags and it's only 10 days into July!!! Levi got his first ever intermediate place, 19th in jump, at Tuffley in his 3rd ever intermediate round, clever Wabbit Also placed both Nov classes on Sun and a 21st in Olympia abc on Sat. He's cut his pad since so we're both sulking lots
  20. Hmm, interesting,so this is what judges then translate to no practising waits, contacts etc- Iwonder if the kc are actually aware of this, mind you there'sa fair few scarey judges out there that I'm not going to argue with either way!! Lucy NFC for KC are strictly speaking the dogs you are supposed to list that you take to the show but not to run in any ring . Whatever the regs say I have never seen anyone using toys or training aids in a kc ring, although if you go to a small show, say one with only elem/starter/nov classes then the judges are likely to be friendlier- I guess coz there's less rush ,smaller classes at these usually. For me there is def a friendlier atmosphere at UKA shows,I will certainly be starting Giz at them efore braving kc ones
  21. Wow, well done Dizzycharm, and at Thames too! Apparently it's the biggest weekend show this year, so way to go!!! Well done Tealeaf and Kerrio, glad you're enjoying your agility- that's def the secret whatever level you do, and def why I do it ( oh and escaping from home with just the dogs for a week at a time ) Levi got his first clear round in Intermediate at Thames , despite my rubbish handling .
  22. hi, you can do a training round in uka, you will then have one minute in the ring- you still can't take food into the ring though. You might get away with the food throw bag, but they are becoming the 'in' trainig aid so be prepared for the judge to recognise and disallow it orask you to empty it of food before entering the ring. Nicola I think the KC issue is covered by the 'thou shalt not train in the ring' rule- i.e. no toys, no food (and having food in your pocket can be construed as a training aid, although very few judges would even think about it with the size of classes nowadays unless dogs suddenly started sniffing in the ring !)- some judges will ask you to leave for putting a dog back on a contact or resetting dog in a wait before you get over the first jump. There is even some talk about tuggies not being allowed on end of leads if new rule brought in next year kc, bless 'em If you want to train I would def go to UKa show-you could do all your runs training if you wanted to. You could do agility and just do the jumps if you wanted to build confidence around them. You could always have 2 bags and swap the one with food in for the empty one just outside the ring. Just enter classes as normal, then when the 'pad ' person pulls your ticket out ask her to declare you as a training round- she should tell the scrimer who will let the judge know and tell you when your minute starts and ends. good luck with your training, Karen
  23. Hi, Levi got 10 clear rounds at Supadogs in Starter and Novice classes- can't believe that when I counted them, what a clever Wabbit. He'd have got 16 if Ihadn't sent him the wrong way/ made him roll a pole and all those other handler sins
  24. Was there at 9.45,honest, but had to leave quite soon after toget to work- didn't make the 2.30 one had just got back and had to do class and course walk Did anyone manage to meet up? Maybe we need to have phone numbersfor Supadogs- we must be able to meet up in a week long show Hope everyone had a good day and noone got washed away in rain
