  4. NOOOO, i missed posting on here, couple of weeks ago, i was out walking on one if the rides at work and was pulling one of the horses out of the grass and didnt realise how close the horse in front was, i didnt think he kicked so pushed his bum to get him moving....bad idea, he double barreled me and got both my knees, hes a big fat hairy cob as well- i was very restrained considering - but there were children on the ride anyway its the first time ive been kicked in over 10 years of riding etc so it was about time and it didnt hurt as much as i thought it would - that is until i got home and sat down to watch tv for an hour or so and couldnt actually move to get up - was really sore and had two great bruises - i was in uni th next day and had to hobble slowly to my lectures looking like a ninkumpoop - damn i cant belive i didnt think to take a pic

    Spondylosis

ill try some of what suggested....in the past she has been on cortaflex, glucosamine, other supplements but seems to be doing ok at the min, she doesnt seem to fall over much any more just her back feet tend to buckle over and finds it difficult to go upstairs (she waits at the bottom with one paw on the first step then takes a couple of minutes before setting off up without stopping) but she tends to get worse in winter....i was also wondering about those memory foam beds do you think they would help? i am going to look into hte garlic and osteotrace - and prob get some when i order the next batch of tablets

    Spondylosis

The vet thinks this is what molly has - which isnt a problem as such - shes 12 and is on green lipped mussel with glucosamine and denes greenleaf tablets at the minute. I did a search in google on spondylosis and came across a supplement called DGP - DogGone Pain. DGP I havent heard of it before - has anyone else used it and is it any good? Molly usally gets a lot worse in winter so just thinking ahead on what i can do to help her. thanks
  7. ok thanks is this on lead that i would do it? if she is onlead she tends to just snap straight away. like today off lead she will sniff them face to face, then decide weither to react or just run off and do something else. i will go armed with biscuits to work next time, this is where she meets most other dogs - its hard at work as she is so excited and hyper that she will only concentrate on biscuits/food for a second before running off or barking etc i will ask the lass who has the new dogs if she doesnt mind working with me, she is very nice so hopefully she wont mind. do i say anything if she growls and snaps at the other dog or just take her away from the situation? thanks again
  8. i thought that. am just looking up behaviourists now, doesnt seem to be many in cumbria though
  9. Ok, well comments at work today made me think what i can actually do to make phoenix dog friendly. Background info....she has always been well socialised with dogs and gets on fine with our dog molly (they have never had a squabble or fight). As a pup she wasnt bothered about other dogs around her wanting to play she just wanted to play with humans and have human company. As she got older (and i think this is where her agressive behaviour starts) and she came into season, whenever i took her out (even just to the garden), there would be at least one dog there day and night if not 2 or three....we lived in a city and people around us assumed it was fine to leave their dogs out wandering )...these dogs would sniff her follow her around etc so she couldnt even go for a wee and then she would snap at them....not full on growling etc just snapping. She was then spayed and i began work at stables where she came to work with me....at this point she was still fine with other dogs. Then one dog took a dislike to her, an alsation, who got off one day and ran to her whilst she was tied up and grabbed hold of her back and wouldnt let go, i picked phoenix up and he still had hold. After that incident she started growling and snapping when another dog growled at her to defend herself...she had 2 fights with the managers dog (the other dog had her pinned down and phoenic came out of that with a broken tooth and puncture wounds)..the thing is she doesnt back down she doesnt go for the throat or anything like that, its just a lot of noise. Now she gets on fine with 2 dogs there who she has known for ages, she has had a minor scrap with one of them but that was over food and they get on fine now. A new lass is now living in the house at the stables and she has 2 dogs. the dogs were in the house today so i let phoenix off at lunch as i always do. Halfway through the new lass let her dogs out without us knowing, i turn round and phoenix is sniffing at one (the one thats unfriendly!) so i grab phoenix and pick her up and just eat my dinner again, i then put phoenix on the floor and the other lass just lets her dogs run up to her so phoenix is there growling and snapping at them and i end up having to put her back in the kennel again. So then i get all this cr*p from a few workmates that phoenix is untrained and should go on dog borstal blablabla - i just dont know what people expect me to do - How can i socialise her with other dogs when i cant trust her not to start a fight? She is 100% with molly and id say 90% trustworthy with her 2 doggy friends at work. I know sometimes it it my fault because sometimes on walks she will be saying hello to another dog and i will panick and shout for her and put her on her lead, and i think me panicking makes her think that there is something there that she should be worried about as well. She is better meeting other dogs off lead i have found, on lead 99% of the time she will snap at them... Sorry this is long but its getting me down as i love my dog to bits and i hate people saying bad things about her...at home she is so well behaved as well. (ps sorry if this is in the wrong section - please move to behaivour if you think it to be more appropriate )
  10. we had the most gorgeous vet come up to see a few of the horses at work today mmmmmmm i kept having to find jobs to do on the yard so i could walk by lots ooo and who is fred?
  11. Oh god, im so sorry Hes so handsome lots and lots of healing thoughts for him
  12. i began with a magnetic collar for molly and that helped for a while, then her legs got worse and so i took her to the vet who gave her metacam. She went on 2 courses of that when i stopped giving it to her as it wasnt really working wonders. I then gave her denes green lipped mussel with glucosamine (on recommendation from muriel ) I bought her just green lipped mussel the next time from a health food shop but these didnt have glucosamine in and she seemed to get worse. Recently she has been on cortaflex and another supplement containing green lipped mussel, vit c, devils claw etc and shes been doing well but cortaflex is really expensive over the long run so i am going back to giving her just green lipped mussel from denes and denes greenleaf tablets (which are v.cheap). Molly is doing really well now, her legs arent great but she can manage a 15 min walk in the morning and an hours walk during day or evening (so long as there is a stop off at the river involved, a walk without a swim is NOT a good walk in mollys books lol) She 12 now and shes been on the supplements for a year or so, the difference when i first gave her the glucosamine and green lipped mussel was amazing, previously she had trotted behind on walks but then she began chasing rabbits again (ok no where near to catching them) but she was actually running which i hadnt seen her do for a couple of years. She just seems to forget her back legs are weaker now and will set off after rabbits (her favourite pasttime) then go off too fast and fall over, it doesnt seem to bother her though and she'll pick herself up and carry on. Glad cooper is doing well , with molly it seemed like swimming was making her worse but i started properly drying her off as soon as we got to the car and now we put her togz (towelling coat thing) on and that really gets her dry quickly. It is about quality of life and if cooper really really loves swimming i wouldnt stop him, molly usually refuses to go on a walk unless its by the river or if we walk in the forest she'll not come back to the car until she has been to the river at the bottom of the forest she loves it that much she has been known to spend the majority of the walk walking/swimming along the river instead of walking along the bank lol
  13. i like marmite and honey together and marmite and banana......will have to go and get jaffa cakes and put the squezzy marmite on it and try....i cant imagine it being the best combination however.....

  15. oo bb i forgot (how that is possible i do not know!!!) I have just come home and tried to open the front door by pressing the button on my car keys the blonde moments i have seem to increase by the day. Yesterday i was driving mums car which is a diseal, i pulled out of the petrol station and it cut out....so theres me thinking oh pants ive broken mums car (they are on holiday) so i freewheel it onto the pavement, thinking what to do, then i thought it might be a good idea to try and start the engine again, and it worked.........i had started it off in 3rd and stalled it...therefore not broken at all in my defence it is a diseal and i havent ever stalled it before!!! off to do a quick spot of ironing in front of bb
  16. The cats came to sleep inside last night for the first time in about 3 weeks as it was raining.......we now seem to all of a sudden have a flea infestation so ordering frontline pronto now!!!! anyone know what is good to use on bedding (human and pet)? Well off to work now to nat and whoever else needs them
  17. oh god i do that almost every day!!! we have had 3 cats run over since we moved here.....the current ones - abby and billy - we have had for three years but i still panic if i dont see them for a while and despirately think if i saw them before i went to work as well. They are staying outside almost 24/7 at the min, just coming in for food so i always try to give them a shout in the garden to make sure they are around every so often.....ive been known to search the verges along the road for them before now....only for them to wander in the house a few hours later wondering what all the fuss is about Hope they come to you soon
