  1. I have read through most of this thread and here are just a few thoughts from me. Apologies if any of what I say/ask has been answered and posted previously in the thread. Firstly I think that the committee needs to decide what it is that the march wants to achieve. As I understand it the plan at the moment is to demonstrate under the banner of ‘Stop the Slaughter’, which I think drives home the whole message of cruelty and drives home the message of the vile greyhound racing industry. But how? How will this march want to stop the cruelty? An outright ban? Independent regulation of the industry? Tighter rules in the industry? As far as I am aware (although correct me if I am wrong) this has not yet been decided. I personally would like to see an outright ban on racing. As others have said, if conditions are improved it will make it harder in the future to get a ban on racing. Also, the government are unlikely to give into the demands of a protest with a few hundred people, they are most likely (I would think) try to make a compromise between what the protesters want and people calling for changes and what the industry wants. If the purpose of the march is to have independent regulation of the industry, I would think it would be likely that if this is the case the government might be inclined to set more rules for the industry and give them an opportunity to clean up their act. If the march wanted an outright ban then perhaps the compromise of the government would be to introduce independent regulation. Aim for the top of the tree and all that. As Cycas has said, what about the large organisations that might support this demonstration, have they been contacted? With all due respect I don’t think a few internet forums and a couple dozen rescues/organisations can make as much impact than if larger animal welfare organisations were involved. I think that the members and purpose of the committee needs to be made clear. I am also a little concerned to see that no one from the central Greyhound Action is on the committee (perhaps that is their wish) but I would think that they would be central to any campaign/demonstration of this type as they have a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as a large amount of supporters. After all it is Greyhound Action that has been campaigning for years and years. I personally don’t have a problem with the committee, but would have expected some sort of nominations procedure as not doing this might lead to people becoming resentful/awkward at a later stage and arguing that the committee doesn’t/shouldn’t have any authority because they were elected democratically. Perhaps it would have been better to ask people who had the time and felt they had the skills to be part of a committee to put their names forward and then between them they elect people to sit on the main committee and then all the others organised into the sub committee. I am also a little concerned to see a lot of board problems already arising. I am pretty certain that there are people on here not being allowed to post on DP, and I am also aware of the name of one organisation on the list posted by Abigail, being censored on another forum. I think perhaps this all needs to be resolved before starting anything, otherwise I feel there will be a lot of problems and wasted time/energy and of course, the dogs will ultimately suffer. I think that the idea to have a forum that anyone can post on here is a great idea. Just my views…
  2. As said that is a lot of letters to send and any contribution, from the cost of a book of stamps are a specified amount will be most gratefully received, we have people pledging as much as £20
  3. I hope it all went well - and good luck for the future lessons
  4. Have replied to your pm Tracy Is Nog feeling any better today?
  5. Sorry if my post was poorly worded. I didn't mean to say that in Nog's case just leave it as it is - and indeed I agree that seeking vetrinary advice was the best action to take. I was just adding what we have experienced with Fin - and what that was like and because I aknowledge others may have different experiences that is why I suggested asking other sighthound owners
  6. Poor Nog . We have had experience with Fin doing this, but it ususally goes away easy enough. I'm sure there are members on SWT (see sig for link) who have experience of this and might be able to help with advice etc
  7. Hi Lynne. Nice to see you here!
  8. Sighthound owners might want to take a peek at this - http://www.rykat.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5526

    Reiki People

Are there any reiki people that might be happy to do an article on Reiki for SWT? It will (hopefully) go in our next magazine. I haven't quite set the deadline for magazine articles but it won't be for months (just in case you were worried about time!) If anyone thinks that they might be able to do that, please email me; [email protected]
