  1. Boiler stopped working this morning. Radiators were warm but no hot water for shower. Boiler dead. Plumber couldn’t’t come until late afternoon as he was doing gas training all day. He cut off the frozen bit of condensate pipe and got the boiler working. He will come back and fix pipe when the weather warms up. He had two other places to go after me, for the same reason. The pipe is outside and it is just too cold for it.
  2. ot to see my sister. Main roads were fine but side roads not so good. I have never experienced frozen snow and ice crunching under the car tyres. My grandson walked onto the snow on the grass and he didn't sink in at all. He walked on top of it. 1 -5 at my back door this morning. I need to go out to get fuel- warning light on- so might need a bank loan to fill it up! One rear light failed on the way home , so a trip to Halfords for a new one and get them to fit it. The sun is shining but don't know if it is making much difference to the frozen road outside. Our cul de sac doesn't get gritted.
  3. No more snow since this morning. I have topped up the bird seed. Cleared the snow off the car and a path from the car to the road. I am supposed to be travelling to my sister's tomorrow to deliver Christmas present so waiting anxiously to see what the weather does tonight. I won't be driving. It will be my son.
  4. No snow at 8am. Pelting down, big fluffy flakes, by 9am. Now got a couple of inches of crunchy, sticky lying. No doubt some snowmen will appear.
  5. My cold is going at last. Had enough of this cold spell now but I read that it will be around for the next 7-10 days. Have written some cards tonight but need to wrap my sister's present tomorrow as delivering it on Sunday. I am not in a Christmas mood at all. My friends feeds raw and Millies Wolfheart kibble. Cleo didn't eat kibble. She just walked away from the dish.
  6. Wh have snow lying this morning . That is interesting, Owl. I remember her. Will have a look later. Just read a very sad post on another site K9ology - Dog Psychology & Training is feeling devastated. · I will be in touch with all clients at some point, but unfortunately all sessions this week are cancelled. Yesterday we lost two of our dogsOne had managed to pull a Christmas snow globe from the shelf and as fast as I got to them and was wiping them and the floor, the liquid was everywhere. The liquid didn’t feel like water, so I googled snow globes and saw that some have antifreeze in them. I rang our vets who said to ring the toxology helpline. I did this and they said to get them to the vets straightaway, so I called them back and they saw them. Treatment begun very quickly; induced vomiting, antidote and then they were put on drips as a precaution. With antifreeze poisoning the window for treatment is very slim, but we all acted fast. Regardless 28 hours later Lexi passed away, followed by Milo 6 hours after I never knew some snow globes contained antifreeze. It only takes a very small amount to poison a dog or cat, and it’s poisonous for us too. The liquid is apparently sweet, so pets will lick it. Please if you have any snow globes be careful with them. I wouldn’t wish this in my worst enemy
  7. Rather cold this morning but sun is shining. Definitely, a soup day. Will get some more of my Christmas knitting done in between coping with a runny nose.
  8. Couldn't log on , yesterday. Just a load of text showing. I am choked with the cold this morning. I woke up with a horrendous sore throat that travelled up into my ears. Paracetamol and ibuprofen are having an effect. My son hopes to buy a self charging hybrid car next year. Electric car are good as long as you have somewhere to charge them. If you don't have your own charger then you rely on public ones. Last tv report showed a large number of them were out of order.. Some councils are putting charging stations on lamp posts. If you don't do large milage they are good. but long range ones are very expensive. There is talk of restrictions in use this winter due to energy crisis. My son hopes to get a self charging hybrid next year- braking charges the battery. Living in a busy urban area that should not be a problem.
  9. I am still having problems logging in some days. I get a laod of text instead of the forum opening. Clear and bright today. Had to get a second antibiotic at 5 pm on Thursday. original one didnlt work. Normal chemist 'closed temporarily'. The other local one didn't stock it. My wonderful DIL phoned round chemists until she found one with stock and, it was open until 9 pm , s she went for the prescription after dinner The chemist meant driving down the busy bypass which I do not do. I only drive locally now. Other traffic too busy for me. Am feeling a lot better now, thank goodness. Going to watch last night's Strictly tonight as my son recorded it. It was on too late for my grandson to watch. i normally go round for a take away dinner and to watch it on a Saturday so that is what we will do.
  10. Chilly morning. I had to defrost the car before setting off this morning.
  11. It is hard when they get old, but oldies are special. I had a surprise trip to a Christmas Fayre today. There were so many beautiful handmade items of every kind, and the prices were very reasonable. Much cheaper than they would be in a shop. It was crowded with with people so I hope it was worthwhile for the stall holders.
  12. got antibiotics, thankfully.
  13. Just called the surgery and waiting for the GP to call me back. as I have a urine infection. They are closed all weekend and it is a holiday on Monday.
  14. Poor Wispa. Hope she gets better soon. Slippery Elm is supposed to be good for dicky tummies. S
  15. Hospital appointment this afternoon. Looking after my grandson tomorrow as schools are on strike. He would probably have been off tomorrow anyway as he has been off school since last Friday because of a sore throat . GP reluctantly prescribed penicillin yesterday. Cold and damp seems to be the norm now for the weather. Not heard any Christmas songs but passed a window all lit up last night.
  16. I only open my windows long enough to air the room. Otherwise you are letting in the damp air from outside and trying to heat it. Ii will alos mena the dehumidifier will be drawing in the damp air from outside. It could be condensation that is causing the samp. I hope you can find a solution. Frosty morning this morning but the sun is shining so the ar roof has pretty patterns on it from the melting frost. Spent yesterday ripping back two items I am knitting for Christmas presents. One I had decided to finish it a different way, so had to take it back to half way. The other I discovered, having competed it, that I had made a mistake in the first 4 rows on both parts so it all had to come out. Got to start again today.
  17. Is there enough ventilation in the room? Do you have a dehumidifier you could put in that room? That would show if the room was damp and would show how much water was removed.
  18. Hope the visit from the surveyor goes well. I am still sometimes getting text instead of the website when I try to log in. There must be grelions at work somewhere. Tidied the garden yesterday.Got ris of all the soggy leaves from the tres over the back from the garden. the wind last week swept them into the corners for me. Other than that having lazy days. doing only what is necessary.
  19. After a grey, damp week the sun has his hat on today so I am going out to tidy the garden while it lasts. My dallie got confused at night . I found leaving a night light on helped him- and us- have a peaceful night.
  20. Hope you got a suitable result.
  21. Sunny when I got up so put washing on. Now it is raining.grrr.
  22. Mostly wet here. Done a little shopping and put fuel in the car. Bank account a bit lighter now.
  23. Can they not go to a rescue in Scotland rather than travel all that way?
  24. the sun has gone down and it now COLD. A change overnight from low teens at night to low single figures. Hoing it will be dry tomorrow night for fireworks night. We are going to an organised display. It is many years since I bought fireworks. My kids chose a book rather rhan fireworks and I was quite happy. We went to an organised display which was much more impressive than a home display. I have been fortunate to have dogs who were not bothered or lived where there wasn't any getting set off nearby.
  25. I have an outside thermometer and I noticed it was 6 degrees at teatime last night. I like oatcakes, especially the thick ones.
