  1. I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No computer for ages its been awful Will read back but hope all ok, just wanted to say hi first. My herd are fine at the moment, Annies been teaching Fern to pace up and down merrily ploughing the field if i'm late However my friend lost her lovely old mare to colic the other day, i looked after Bertha for several months a few years back after her owner fractured her neck. So sad
  2. Jazz, please tell your friend her saddle wont do if it doesnt fit correctly. Most back injuries are caused by ill fitting saddles and can cause long term problems and/or recovery
  3. Lassie, the Littlest Hobo, Crackerjack, Swap Shop and Jim'll Fix It
  4. bejo, i can remember the hell he put you through and how upset you were
  5. Michelle and well done on exam Took Izzie out this morning and she met an old friend we havent seen for ages, Harvey the retriever. They had a fantastic time chasing each other and playing so when Harvey had to go i put Iz on her lead so she couldnt follow them.Next thing a bloke appears with an offlead terrier, the dog was stalking towards Iz so i called to the owner to get his dog away as Iz is scared of strange dogs. To my shock the reply was 'Dont worry love she only attacks alsations, she hates the buggers' The dog then rushes up to us and Iz gave a warning growl, nothing nasty but the terrier flew for her and was hanging off her neck luckily only the fur. The owner grabbed her and walked off moaning 'you little bitch so thats collies i cant trust you with now'. No apologies or anything
  6. Milo what a stunner he is.Funny how hes black i can remember the pics and shock of seeing a secret skewbald
  7. Thought i'd update this, the boys are now all seperate Coffee beat up and bit Toffee quite badly one night so we seperated Coffee but yesterday morning Honey was attacking Toffee really badly. Poor Toffee is so friendly and yet again covered in bites and bleeding. I've now changed their cages as well so they're now living in wire cages with plastic bases and the smell is much reduced They've got branches etc and enjoy climbing and seem to be happier in their new set ups. Shame i had to seperate them but was left with no alternative
  8. Good to see Loki happy even if he is far too dazzling white Hows Milo
  9. Izzie has a very dark brown spot on the white of her eye which was caused by an accident when she was a pup.She was running flat out and smacked straight into a wooden fence post causing a lot of trauma to her eye.Vets were worried she'd lose her sight in that eye but luckily she recovered well and just has this mark. Could it possibly be a scar or could he have bumped his eye?
  10. Just a thought would it be worth trying Loki on a herbal supplement for respiratory problems?
  11. Clare, not trying to make light of things but we all get these down times, have to admit i was like this when Fern had colic and Bumble was still recovering from his problems. I just didnt want to go to stables and literally had to force myself but the amount of times i on the way there was daft i was just scared of what disaster lay in wait When things go wrong it all goes at once doesn't it. PW, years ago i had a horse with cow phobia, he'd literally bolt if he saw a cow. Finally had to go to extreme measures when we met a loose cow when out hacking I rented a field off a farmer for a few weeks and turned the horses out , the field was next to his cows After the inital panic and bolting around this huge field he soon settled and after a few days we never had a problem with cows again.
  12. Clipping tip...make sure each side is matching my friend clipped her horse a few years back, did a fantastic job until we looked from behind the horse . One side was a good 2 inches higher than other side Bumble is doing well..touch wood Have noticed though hes stiff in the muscle on right rear leg, its the muscle that goes from bum down to leg. I give him a massage after his breakfast and hes fine think hes a bit like me when i wake up i have a job getting around till my muscles wake up Hes not lame just stiff in that leg but massage it first and hes fine. Was also wondering on how Loki, Wanda and new boy Donnie are doing
  13. hope he/shes ok, know how you feel having been there twice with Fern recently. Colic terrifies me!! Sorry but will be blunt over youngster, why did they get him if they want to work the hell out of him, why not get something older that can cope with work. I cant understand people getting youngsters not knowing what they're doing then ruining them and he wasnt being lazy, poor bugger hes probably stressed with what they're doing to him I have years of experience with horses but wouldnt consider a youngster purely because i dont have experience of working them, so to me its a bad combination and its the horse i feel for. They've got to understand schooling is hard work for horses especially a baby like him, get someone to get them moving a a trot for a few hours and see how they feel.....rant over
  14. The pest control guy phoned me last night and said that at this time of year the queen wasp is getting ready to leave the nest so the other wasps are extra defensive. He closed the track off and said we were very lucky as there were at least 100 wasps on the bank and they were very aggressive, had we walked the track from the other end we'd literally bumped into the main part of the swarm. I really dont like the fact they've been destroyed but i dont suppose much else could be done. I was amazed at how fast they were at getting through hair, Izzie was literally going mad as they were through her coat to her skin.
  15. Well i just demolished a bottle of cider Medicinal purposes of course It seems we literally bumped into the advance party so got off lightly. Trouble is its a really popular track for dog walkers and horse riders and i was worried someone else would get attacked and not be so lucky.
  16. Took Izzie for a nice walk late afternoon and got attacked by wasps Jodie got one sting and had them crawling through her hair and Izzie got stung a few times and had loads in her coat, i had a few on me but no stings. As it was on a public track i called police who in turn got pest control out. Hes just phoned me and said there was a huge swarm very aggrevated and aggressive and we were very lucky to get away as we did. Very scary
  17. They are on dust extracted shavings but i'll look into megazorb [not sure if its stocked over here], thanks. They are lovely and so friendly..puts the hamsters to shame
  18. A few days ago we took on a pet mouse advertised as free with cage and accessories, got there and found the 'accessories' were obviously his two brothers They're lovely boys easy to handle but they absolutely stink I know male mice smell but they are strong to say the least. Their cage is 2 habitrail domes which we can and will expand on but i was thinking of changing their cage to a wire one as ventilation will be better but searching on internet it seems its not recommended to change males cage as they may fight and become territorial in the new one which will result in them being seperated. So any ideas on how to have less pongy boys or are they just marking more due to the stress of being moved and will settle soon. Forgot to add they are approx 7-8 months old.
  19. Donny Milo new place looks lovely as does he Hows Loki doing now. Got to stables last night to find a grey barrell with 4 legs yep Fern had gone under my fencing and Debbies fencing and had guzzled loads of grass. She had a job to move so left them out this time remembering to put fence unit on Luckily no collic but Annie was furious they didnt come in last night, thought she'd settle and got there this morning to find her covered in dried sweat. Apparently she spent ages calling and charging about after i left last night.Bloody horses!!
  20. suzeanna. What an awful shock. Your daughter in law can ask for another scan so in her mind she knows its right. Only saying that as i know how you question yourself in case it was wrong, in my experience it helps put your mind at rest.
  21. Could he be getting clipper rash, Izzie had it really bad and it drove her crazy. Neo Fergus and Polly
  22. Loki and Clare PW, shame you cant drive Banner but far more sensible to give up now. I appear to have a speedi beet addict I use it in feeds in the autumn/winter so started my lot on it last week. Fern went potty she reached over and grabbed the wooden spoon i was using to mix the beet in with and she literally scoffs her food as fast as she can. She loves it, Annie and Bumble enjoy it but Fern is taking it to the extreme!! Milo sounds like hes going beautifully I agree that Blue was picking up on you not feeling well I have had bad sinus problems for a long time and my doctor has said its an allergy, probably to do with the horses. Now whenever i do the hay or hage i'm coming out in a rash over my arms. Trouble is i wear t shirts or if its long sleeved top i roll the sleeves up So i assume its hay causing my sinus problems, anyone else have the same problem? If so what do you do.
