  1. We were on the mainland opposite the island in March near Playa Del Carmen and really enjoyed it. It was the first time I have done and all inclusive package type holiday and was really unsure, but we have had a busy few months and wanted a relaxing holiday. Normally we are either skiing or away with the dogs so it was very different. We were planning on going across to the island but it was windy the day we wanted to go and we spoke to someone who was seasick on the crossing so decided against it. The one thing we were warned about by the rep was to look across to the island before deciding to visit to see if the cruise ships were in because if they were it was very busy. We saw about 4/5 ships at the island in the one week we were there.
  2. Last time she relapsed she got ill at 9.30 on Wednesday night, this time ....... we have just come back from a manic run around the woods beginning to think she might be OK Thankyou for the be OK thoughts
  3. Don't know if you want dogs doing things Bertie collie/saluki cross - rescued 2004 aged 2
  4. Pumpkin, my Toller, got meningitis last June and was very ill until we finally identified the cause thanks to help from people on here . It is not infectious like human meningitis but is the inflamation of the same membrane. It is very responsive to steroids and her temperature came down in a couple of hours once treatment started. By September she was down to one 5mg tablet every other day so we and our vets thought she was better and ended the course of treatment. Unfortunately two days later she went back downhill very rapidly and was back onto 60mg of steroids a day. So this time we have been reducing the dosage slowly and carefully and for the last four weeks she has been on half a tablet every other day and has been fine and the decision has been made to stop them. She had her last half a tablet this morning and I have arranged to work at home all week to keep a very close eye on her. We are fairly certain she will be OK this time but please could you spare us some be OK thoughts just to make sure. The steroids have been incredibly effective though so the illness hasn't stopped her enjoying life over the last 9 months, she had her second proper flyball competition yesterday and has now got enough points for her first award Pumps at her first tourament over Easter
  5. We have it in the bathroom and it is lovely (and the cats like it too ). We didn't have it on all the winter before last as my husband was being mean , but as our house it currently on the market we have had it on this year. Our electicity bill was in credit at the last bill so it cannot be costing us that much
  6. We joined through OH working for the NHS, also professionals (accountants etc) can get membership, my sister joined through working for an airline company so not certain how they decide who they they allow Also you can get additional cards, we got one for my brother in law, so maybe someone you know would get one for you, I can't remember how much it costs though
  7. We have been asked to put a flyball tournament on at the Clumber Park Steam and Game fair on the 28 and 29 June We are very excited by it all, and it is a lovely venue with loads of woods etc for dog walking. We are only a small club (just 8 of us) so it will be hard work but it will be worth it. As it is our first time and we don't want it to be too hectic we are only doing three divisions plus starters each day so it should be fairly relaxed. It is the same time as the Daventry tournament but looking at the results from last year very few northern teams went to it so we should be able to fill it.
  8. I imagine that the are lots of regulations about what they can spend the money on. I know from the audits I have done on charitable funds that if someone gives money for a specific fund then the money has to be spent on that. So if people have given to a 'find Maddie' campaign then that is what the money has to be spent on.
  9. Our first tournament and seemed to be very successful, we are all really pleased how well it went. Next time though we won't put a show on the weekend the clocks go forward, getting up at 4 am old time so we could get there to set everything up was not fun
  10. I come from a very religious (but not in your face type) family but I am not. However it was very important to me to be married in a church, the traditions of the church made it more real to me than a registry office. Also, christianity is part of my culture even if I am not a practising christian. It was also very important for my Mum. But I can understand why you might have a thing about it, it would probably irritate me
  11. Yes as long as the four dogs that are running are different breeds (or one cross breed) it doesn't matter what the other two are. On Monday we had two BCs in the team but alternated them. The other three had to run all the time as they were the only none collies we have
  12. You will OK as long as you don't get weather like this Our friend is in there somewhere, with her five dogs But you will be OK as long as there is someone doing this OH sorting out breakfast outside our caravan
  13. No it is Tomlinson Kennels at Markfield who have an indoor arena. We are hosting a flyball starters competition there next Sunday
  14. The new caravan was lovely and I was very pleased to have it with all that snow Surprisingly enough we had very little mud, it was quite muddy around the game fair but the actual camping and flyballing area was OK. The flyball arena was in excellent condition all weekend. We did mud at Carlton Towers three years ago, the worse I have ever had flyballing.
  15. Me - I have to be as it is our tournament
  16. Carlton Towers was, as usual, and excellent if sometimes odd weekend Pumpkin had her first open competition and was wonderful, she did run out occasionally but managed 125 points Both she and Bertie were in the multibreed as as we only have three non collies they had to run all day. Again she was pretty good, did run out a few times more but a friend was running her as John needed to box load for Berts. As for my lad, I had purposely given him a very quiet weekend with mainly lead walks so he was raring to go on Monday and he was excellent Even Annie had a run as we have decided to put her back into starters, she only got 125 points last year so we got permission from Betty who said it was OK to run her. So a great weekend for all the dogs. I also had the pleasure of running Jaynes dog Eddie for one race in the multibreed, he was great As for the weather............ This is what we woke up to on Sunday morning Our friends tent!!!! and the flyball arena! But in true Betty fashion she was not going to let a bit of snow stop racing the call went out for anyone with shovels to go down to start clearing snow. When that did not produce many people she issued the order for everyone to go down with dog dishes it is amazing how fast snow can be cleared with a load of flyballers with dog dishes. Our team was provided with bacon butties from John Racing started almost on time and the ground was very good.
  17. Wow that looks very nasty, glad you are OK, take care of yourself
  18. I could give you an exact list as we are just putting it together for the insurance company after some sods stole our caravan last week and there seems to be any awful lot
  19. He couldn't be bothered this weekend, it was all far too much effort to carry a ball back
  20. Ohh not brave enough to join the other RMF but as this is new I will be brave Pumpkin went for yet another blood test today for her meningitis, but she is getting loads better and is down to only two steroid tablets every other day (compared to 6 tablets twice a day last September)
  21. Last season Bertie managed a grand total of 40 points but today he ran for the first time in Alpha Mischief and he amazed us all. Except for the first race where he spit his ball out he ran perfectly running a total of 11 legs and getting over 80 points He had extra chicken tonight
  22. This is my favourite of Bertie it was taken a year after we got him from Lizzies Barn, we were back down in Wales and went for a walk with Fionna along the beach. He seems so happy and carefree in it, I like to think he was happy seeing Fionna again whilst knowing he now had a loving home Love this one of Pumpkin because dispite having a relapse with her meningitis a couple of weeks before and on a high dosage of steroids (which she is still on) she is enjoying life and competing in her first starter flyball tourament And Annie in her favourite state, scraggily after playing with a tennis ball for hours on the beach
  23. hope you get some news soon and he has a speedy recovery
