  2. I've complained several times in the past about this particular postie Griff and he's had a hell of a telling off from me too after he was nasty with Archie. They don't seem to want to do anything about him. As the rest of the posties are lovely and often go the extra mile for us I don't want to go to a higher level than the sorting office manager for fear of getting them all told off or sanctioned in some way. Ruby wasn't bothered as the contents were in perfect condition so she said "let it be". She's had loads of pressies. Her staff got her a lovely sponge cake decorated with pencils made of fondant, a bunch of flowers, a silk scarf and a matching silver necklace and ear-rings. Others in her company treat their staff like shite but it's always been Ruby's philosophy to treat others as she likes to be treated and it comes back in spades to her as they are very loyal to her.

  3. Have you ever tried the tanning booth, Griff? where they turn you round like a spit roast? Philip just came back from walking Candy and said he'd been round the field and was coming back down the jitty and met this group of late teen/early twenties standing near the end in clouds of very aromatic smoke. He said they were very chatty and complimented him on the fact his sunglasses matched his t shirt. I said never mind that, didn't you ask them where they got the stuff from?๐Ÿ˜

  5. Neighbours 2 doors along, the ones whose collie likes to race Wispa along the gardens, called across to me with a lovely offer. They do not need a delivery slot they booked with ASDA 2 weeks ago as they have managed to go and do a shop. So they have offered me the password so I can use their slot.

  6. This should give you all a laugh...I've been having the odd Tena Lady moment as I've been coughing so hard. I don't have any Tena Lady, but I do have a pack of Bodyform I got when the letrozole caused bleeding, so I thought one of them would do. Unfortunately, being sleep deprived and not really looking at what I was doing, it wasn't until I plonked one in place and pulled up my knickers that I realised I'd got the sticky side against me, not the underwear!

  8. He clearly hasn't got any kind of handle on this one. If he hasn't seen the conflict in your family for himself he may find it hard to imagine how serious it is. I have had a chat with my sister (not mentioning your name but explaining the situation) because in her years as a minister she has had to organise help for various people in crisis. There should be an Emergency Housing Officer attached to your council who should be available outside normal office hours, and because of your serious health problems combined with threat of violence you should qualify as a vulnerable adult. This would mean that the council are required to provide housing under an Act in 2014. Worth following up.

  10. Anyone who is feeling down wants a laugh and doesn't mind rude language, find Fascinating Aida singing "Dogging". Philip was nearly in tears with laughter listening to them. There is another they've done but I won't recommend that one, it's extremely bad language. Philip keeps in touch with the people he used to work with, and a few weeks ago was Skyped by one of his female friends, saying her husband kept having bad headaches and now blackouts and was going for an MRI scan. She messaged Philip again yesterday, Sean had the results of the scan...a tumour, but until he's seen by the relevant department they wont know if it's benign or not. She was asking how he/we cope with knowing I have serious health issues and Philip told her all you can do is live life as normal, until the day that it isn't. I think that's the only way to deal with things, so anyone waiting on a diagnosis (Griff) or with family or friends in that position, act as if everything is fine and hopefully you'll find that it is. Thus ends the sermon for today.

  12. No, didn't know there were any. My husband is a comedian! Our hamster has turned out to be rather reclusive, Philip was peering into its cage last night and I said any sign? He said yes, a tiny one by his house, it says f off!

  13. I can confirm you are no minger Griff, quite the opposite. And Steve is far too complex a person for it to be as simple as not wanting to be seen with you. Think of him as a rescue dog, where you don't know the full background, and with many issues that need worked through gradually. Which you're doing brilliantly.

  15. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Suzeanna. I know a fellow Cumbrian who just cannot be doing with Geordies. He hates the accent & more than once has been set upon by a drunken bunch of them over here on holiday when he was a young man. He took up genealogy later in life so imagine his face the day he found out he was descended from a long line of them on one branch of his family tree ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  16. Just checking all is in order because of the trouble my asthma has been giving me Suzeanna. I was always a very "chesty" child and got frequent bouts of bronchitis & had whooping cough as well as the asthma. Oh yes, I've got my diabetes levels right down and if I continue at this rate I will end up out of the diabetic range. I'm going to go for it.

  17. had a busy couple of days last weekend with visitors but they enjoyed themselves, despite the language barrier. It was their first time out of Romania and were amazed at the shades of green in the vegetation. They have grass for a month or two. Outside that it is too hot or too cold. My nephew went gluten free and says he feels much better for it. He is a PE teacher who plays sport in his free time so needs his health and energy. I cut down some overgrown rhododendrons yesterday. They were taking over the bit of garden. The space is bigger now. Some branches were thick and were difficult yo cut, Last night and this morning I could hardly move my right arm. It is slightly better now but my elbow is painful. JIm is still in a lot of pain in his chest. She thinks it is scarring from the drain removal and should resolve itself. After we told her about our last appointment fiasco she contacted the oncologist and he agreed to another CT and blood test before his appointment on Tuesday. Only problem was the CT machine was broken. It was fixed on Friday so a scan was arranged for Monday. I think she is just being cautious- I hope so. Meantime he is dozed up with Morphine and anti inflammatories and spends more time asleep then awake. I hope you can return to normal life soon , griff. Having nightmare neighbours is no fun. You should be able to lead your own life without interference from people like that.

  18. Very sad Griff. Poor man, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Very happy to help Owl whenever. Just shout ๐Ÿ‘ I sent my DNA sample off today though they've changed the collection times so I missed today's collection. It will take 6-8 weeks anyway from when they get the sample. I may be told that I am related to some archaic grain as I noticed a tiny bit of my breakfast went in the pot. I had gluten free flakes made from foodstuffs typical of an iron age diet. They were shite ๐Ÿ™

  23. That's a good start, weeing in garden. Quick learner! So much cooler here today, whew! Yesterday I had day off from my watering duties, thought ok stay home and keep as cool as I can, relax. Checked village Facebook group, sudden emergency. A lady had been to the new council cemetery and found someone had scattered sharp nails all over the car park. Strong sharp ones over an inch long. She had to go to work, said there was a man there trying to clear them up. So I said I would get down there asap with broom and dustpan. Arrived, no man there. Not surprised, impossible to do it all by hand, and of course tehy were in full sun and red hot to touch. I set to work protected by hat and loads of sunscreen, swept half the car park, managed to stop 2 cars from driving on to them. Then the council workers arrived in big van. I ran across and shouted at them to stop, they ignored me so I got in front of the van, jumped up and down waving the broom, shouting STOP. They looked disgusted with me, couldn't work out why. Then when I got them to understand and showed them the nails, they said don't worry, our problem now, and got out the leaf blower which was much easier than broom. Later I realised why they looked at me, appalled. Poor guys, sweltering in regulation council hi vis overalls, going to do routine work at cemetery, and suddenly a crazy old lady wearing a big hat and cargo shorts rushes at them brandishing a broom and yelling. They must have thought that was the last thing they needed, a confrontation with the village witch.

  24. Owl, the letter I got was from the NHS, not the council. My hair is growing..but still falling out, which is rather weird. It's nearly long enough to put in a pony tail, except at my age I suppose it's more of an old mare's tail!

  25. Philip was chatting to Tracy just now when he was walking Candy and she was walking Cookie. She's the one who had a double mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. She said the healing was going ok but it was still very sore and hurt inside and they just don't feel like hers! He assured her they look fine (strange chats, my husband has!) Then a woman came out of her house, ready to join in the clap for the NHS, wearing her dressing gown and flung it open to display what she was wearing underneath...he said he beat a quick retreat before anyone else joined in! Honestly..it's not safe out there for a male on his own.

  27. Thorough washing with soap and hot water is best, apparently, but hand sanitizer very useful as a protective barrier when out and about. I don't know that a harness stops pulling but it spreads the pulling area and makes it less of a tug of war. There is no way I could handle Wispa without one. It's good to have 2 leads, again to spread the pulling area. I have one to harness and one to neck, but 2 to harness is fine if you have 2 places to connect them. Mice have learned not only to take peanut butter bait and get out of traps, but had the cheek to drag some bits of stolen onion in there. When mice start using the trap as a handy storage area, you have the wrong trap. These are the multi-mouse traps that we caught so many in last year. This lot are obviously much smarter.

  28. Best wishes for Ruby xxx Legs are killing me after another two hours of walking today. Certainly getting me fit having a young dog again ๐Ÿถ Work is manic as we're a man down and I'm having to pick up a lot of the work as well as my own projects, which are busy enough as it is. Walking Jac is my way of de-stressing. He's got a lovely new friend called Clive. They luffs each other ๐Ÿ˜ We're going to Rivington on Saturday. Been wanting to go for ages but never quite made it so I'm quite excited.

  29. Thanks Marion, might do that but I have to do some work with Jac first as he's a bit scared of people so a pub isn't the ideal environment ๐Ÿ™„ but I am working to get him more used to them and he'll probably be ok as long as we can sit outside. suzeanna that would be great, hopefully we'll get some sunny weather and we can get something arranged. There's a six month old Newfoundland who was following Jac about on our walk this afternoon. She loves him but he tends to ignore her. Doesn't stop her though and she is thoroughly adorable ๐Ÿฅฐ Just had a chat with the lady at Dogs Trust and Lily's met her new owners today, who've been on the waiting list for a pup since November. She'll be the only dog so will be the centre of attention. Shes currently sharing a kennel with a 10 month old German Shepherd and apparently they've been curling up together ๐Ÿฅฐ

  33. That sounds perfect Owl Had my phone appointment with my own GP. First thing she said was "wow, you gave everyone a scare last week". Anyway she's booked me in to the asthma clinic on Tuesday just before my flu jab appointment but told me if I start having any sort of problem before then to call. Receptionists know to put me right through.

  34. Was nice here too today, couple of light showers but sunny otherwise. Got loads done in the garden so tired and achey, but enjoyed myself. Can't do Christmas shopping this early. Haven't got so many to buy for nowadays but December is early enough for me. I'm sure you'll be fine Owl. It's always daunting thinking about the journey but what a relief when you've done it and can just relax and enjoy the holiday. That sounds weird Griff. I do hope Carl WAS dead when he was cremated lol (sorry if innapropriate humour).

  36. Lily loves telly, especially if it features dogs ๐Ÿฅฐ Her fave is Lost and Found. Maz tell the receptionist if the doctor cant see you, you'll have to go to A&E. It costs my doctors ยฃ60 every time a patient of theirs goes to the hospital, so they are very keen to avoid that. We had a lovely long walk. Lil's recall is coming along brilliantly and 80% of the time she races back to me when I call her, but is she's interacting with another dog I might as well be shouting at the moon.

  37. Seems like the weather is going to be bad for some today. I hope no one here gets the flooding they are forecasting. For a change we aren't in the warning area. We've booked to go to London for a couple of days in November, specifically to see Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park but whatever else takes our fancy. We've also treated ourselves to 1st class train travel. One time we were coming back in 1st class after I'd bought a plastic tiara for Evie from the Tower Of London gift shop. Ruby was heaving my case onto the overhead luggage store when I said "oi watch me tiara" which got me some looks from fellow passengers

  38. If he's still alive, but unconscious..as they say hearing is the last sense to go, I suppose it would be viewed as very cruel to tell him what's going to happen when he's dead? Then again..if he is a cruel man, could be just what he deserves. Sorry..I'm not nice am I?

  39. Tesco delivery came today..a driver I haven't seen for ages. His first words? Oh, glad to see you're still alive! Yes, me too! He was the one who made a delivery the day after I'd been told I was now stage 4..and the next thing I knew he and a woman from Tesco arrived on the doorstep with a lovely bouquet of flowers. Made me cry, and her too apparently. Last conversation I had with a cop was after I was flashed by the local..flasher. Francis (cop) came to take my statement and we both got the giggles about it, especially when he said the suspect said he had an allergy and he got it out to cool it down!

  40. I hope I am allowed to add a very unsuitable present received by a friend and neighbour when I lived in rural Wales. She and her partner had recently moved there and she could not drive. Buses were few and I often gave her a lift to go shopping, but her partner who spent most of the time working away wanted to give her some independence. Without saying anything, he bought a pony which he figured would be suitable to drive in a trap. Knowing less than 0 about horses, he went to the local horse auction and was delighted to get one at a bargainous price. Well, an unbroken entire 2 year old colt with no pedigree and no manners would be pretty cheap. Friend was less than happy, especially when the pony chased her round the field. We did manage to find him a suitable home, where people knew what they were doing and eventually sorted him out.

  41. We are going to the tip with another load of crap we don't need this afternoon and to the storage locker tomorrow to put in a few more boxes of crap that we DO need. We are slowly moving forwards although a snail and a tortoise would beat us in a race. Very grey and wet again here today. I've been to the medical centre and had my last ever smear - well as long as the results are OK. Thank feck for that! I'm still losing weight so that's good. Time is ticking and it's already 6 months since we booked our QM2 trip so need to ramp the weight loss effort up. My friend's daughter is doing OK. She was greatly cheered up yesterday by a visit from a therapy dog who got into bed with her

  42. I did. My mum and dad were lovely. Strict but fair and I had a great childhood. Not much money but loads of fun and lots of love. Late teens/adulthood not so good, but that was my fault not theirs. A rebel without a cause and they bailed me out every time. I won't say there were no recriminations as there was but I deserved them lol. Big hugs to all who had a difficult and unhappy childhood.

I emailed Philip to tell him the bird seed is coming today and got this back just now.. Found a note outside signed by all our visitors, both feathered and furry, saying โ€œ We are most disappointed with this feeding station. The availability of good quality nosh has declined over the last few days, to the point that we have visited and even the little tubes that hold our seed arenโ€™t even there. Please improve the service immediatelyโ€ Lucky me, found a man who's as mad as I am!

  45. Overcast and a bit cooler here. This evening we are going to the reserve not only for walk but to meet a member of the Doglost team from down south. She and her dogs are at a camp for sprockers and their people in a field next to the reserve. I have only met her online, never face to face. I went to the nearest services on the M1 to hand over a box of K9 goodies to a transporter who was on his way to a rescue in Yorks. In the car park there was this silver haired guy who got a skateboard out of his car and started whizzing about in the car park, in and out of cars. Probably the male equivalent of the wearing purple with a red hat brigade.

  47. Last fine day here for a while. April showers coming in here from tomorrow, much needed as it is getting dry and water levels are low. Griff you will always be beautiful regardless of future snub nose and you will never look like a pig xx Yesterday I transported such a sweet girl for part of her journey from Worcester to the other side of Harrogate. GSP liver ticked, not more than 3 years old at most, but her teats showed she had at least 3 litters. Bred before reaching full maturity, like so many from dodgy breeders. Unchipped of course, found wandering round a housing estate, but docked so has come from working stock. Not at all nervous, a bit underweight but she is now in a great rescue and they will build her up.
