CROSBY

**UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Crosby would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.

Key Points: Super friendly, loving, light hearted, centered, dog savvy, would benefit from living with another dog, loves kids.

This delightful hound is Crosby. He is a 4 year old greyhound boy who has ran over 50 races for his previous owners and now very much deserves a loving family home to call his own. Crosby is a big black boy who will be oh so gorgeous once his coat gets a healthy shimmer to it.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Big goofball, sociable, loves people and dogs alike.

Crosby is a character with a capital C!! A nicer, softer goofball you will not meet, Crosby is just delightful in every way. He has not let the harsh racing world dampen his spirits in the slightest, and though he is technically looking for a ‘retirement’ home, Crosby is not near ready to finish his adventure. This boy is just adorable and is guaranteed to make you smile. He finds the joy in the simplest things, loves exploring the world around him, absolutely ADORES his people and always has the biggest toothiest smile saved just for you. He loves getting cuddles and being allowed to snuggle with you on the sofa in the evening is his idea of heaven! Whomever gives this boy space on their sofa is going to be very lucky indeed.

Crosby is great with children and is very gentle but fun loving. He is used to being played with and handled by kids, and could live happily in a busy family home with children over the age of 8. He enjoys a good romp around the garden and is now learning about the joy to had with squeaky balls.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Housetrained though may have accidents at first, would be happiest with canine company, can live with children aged 8+.

Crosby is currently in kennels, but has lived in a foster home in Ireland for a short period. During this time he was settling well and mastering the art of outdoor toileting, though he did show signs of being anxious when left alone. He is fine when left with canine company and settles ok, however. His new owners will need to watch this issue so that it doesn’t progress, and also remind him about the house rules, but they will in turn be rewarded with one of the happiest dogs on the planet and a lifetime of guaranteed laughs! Crosby loooves his food and if you have tasty treats you are his new best friend.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Very good with other dogs, not suitable to live with cats.

Crosby is very good with other dogs and is polite in greeting them. He likes to have a good long sniff and is then content to either move on or settle for a snooze. He is very good when meeting small breeds of dog on lead, but may still need watching if the small dogs are offlead and running around. Crosby really loves other dogs and craves their company and socialisation. He would do very well in a home with another dog (or three!) to interact with and goof around with in the garden. Crosby is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Excellent on lead, sociable, enjoys seeing the world.

Like most greyhounds, Crosby is a bit of a couch potato and does not need as much exercise as one might expect. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks like a gem on the lead and is also excellently behaved in the car. Crosby is the type of dog you could take practically anywhere with you, and he would dearly love to follow you anywhere.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Crosby is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Crosby is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Crosby, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Crosby, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:

Crosby is a confident chappy and really is just a typical bloke – goofy, chilled out, boisterous and just a little bit loud! He great with children and is very gentle but fun loving. He is used to being played with and handled by kids, and could live happily in a busy family home with children over the age of 8.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Housetrained, super playful, fun-loving and quirky, happiest with canine company, can live with children aged 8+.

Crosby has been in his foster home for 2 weeks, and is settling well. He is fully housetrained, quiet through the night and not destructive. Having a daily routine is vital for Crosby, or ‘Bing’ as is his new nickname, and he is more chilled when he knows the drill. He is incredibly affectionate and will shower you in kisses if you let him. He is also super playful and loves nothing better than filining his squeaky toi around the house. Crosby also has just a little bit of ‘quirk’, he gives big toothy smiles when greeting you in the morning, and when hes really REALLY happy his long tail spins in circles, like a helicopter blade. Crosby is one of the happiest dogs you will meet, and whoever adopts him is guaranteed a lifetume supply of laughs!

Crosby loooves his food and if you have tasty treats you are his new best friend. This also makes him very responsive to training, and he is a very engaging dog. He picks up new commands quickly, and is especially good at copying his foster siblings. He is sharing his foster home with 2 other greyhound boys, and he is learning that most dogs don’t actually want to play all the time! He is taking his telling offs very well, and is really just a big fun-loving goof. He very much enjoys having doggie company though, so we feel he would be best in a home with at least one other dog, ideally someone who is willing to play with him on occasion.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Very good with other dogs, bit boisterous at times, not suitable to live with cats.

Crosby is very good with other dogs and is generally polite in greeting them. He can get over-excited sometimes and become boisterous, but he is learning that this isn’t always welcomed with open arms. As he calms down and gets used to having lots of socialisation rather than just a daily walk when in kennels, we are sure he will get better and remember his manners more often when meeting other dogs. He may need to be watched with very small dogs as he is a big boy and might hurt them ,but again this will calm down with time and repetition. Crosby really loves other canines and craves their company and socialisation. He would do very well in a home with another dog (or three!) to interact with and goof around with in the garden. Crosby is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Excellent on lead, sociable, enjoys seeing the world, good traveller, needs recall work.

Like most greyhounds, Crosby does not need as much exercise as one might expect. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area a couple times a week. Crosby is not yet suitable to be offlead. He will need some work on recall before he can be safely let offlead in areas away from roads and livestock.

Crosby walks like a gem on the lead and is also excellently behaved in the car. Crosby is the type of dog you could take practically anywhere with you, and he would dearly love to follow you wherever you go. This boy is looking for adventure and life expereinces, so we would love him to find a home that will take him on trips and long, relaxed walks.
