merledogs
More help needed please re this laptop! I want to buy a Firewire adapter which sits in the card slot, but I don't know which one will fit! Which one of these will fit please? This one: http://it247.com/pro...er-2_ports.html or this one: http://it247.com/pro...=googleshopping If neither, then what sort of adaptor do i need to fit in the slot (which just calls itself a Digital Media Slot on the bumf). Also, is there any way I can take Microsoft Office & Outlook off this PC and put it onto my laptop (don't have the disc any more) or would I need to buy new? cycas
Are you sure that this 'digital media slot' is actually a Cardbus or Expresscard slot? Not all laptops have these, and your laptop specification doesn't mention it? I would have assumed that a digital media slot was for memory cards and that sort of thing, not PCMCIA? This page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard shows the size and dimensions of Expresscard and Cardbus cards, if you have a slot that is the right width for either of those, then probably that's what it is and you can buy a Firewire slot to fit, but if the slot doesn't match either, then it's probably for SD cards and the like and won't accommodate either of them. merledogs
Thanks Victoria, I will have a measure up when I get in tonight If neither fits then I will have to find another way to download videos from my camcorder.
cycas
If your camcorder records onto a digital media card, you can probably just whip that out and stick the card in the slot directly. Or could it talk to the laptop via USB?
merledogs
Camcorder doesn't have a media card, it uses tapes and the only way I can connect it to my computer is via Firewire. I have tried a Firewire to USB adapter but just got a message saying that it wasn't recognised (but it was a cheap carpy one off eBay so maybe it wasn't working?). The only other alternative is to install a Firewire port on my laptop

Try driverguide.com for the driver if you don't have a CD or instructions. It doesn't look to me from the laptop spec as if there is anywhere else that you could install a firewire port/adaptor. You could try writing to Compaq.
