Poor Lady Red came into a busy local rescue, but did not do well in kennels and became stressed and lost weight: her whole world had fallen apart and she just wasn’t able to cope.

Red does not walk too well on a lead at the moment, as she is virtually blind and almost entirely deaf, so gets quite scared on the lead - however if she has body contact with you, she will walk where you want her to so long as there is constant body contact.

Dogs can cope very well with loss of sight, but Red’s new owner will need to understand her limitations and perhaps a home where there were not too many obstacles to navigate and the furniture isn’t likely to move about would be best.

Red has severe cataracts which will need ongoing medical attention. She really needs a loving home with someone who has time to give her a little extra love and time. Her current fosterer says “I think she needs a home with time and patience for her, when you are fussing her she seems to really appreciate the attention, with her being blind and deaf I don’t think she would adapt to a household with younger children.â€

Lady Red will be vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated before she is rehomed. We are not sure yet whether Lady Red has been spayed. Oldies Club dogs are normally neutered before rehoming unless a medical condition makes this unadvisable.

If you’d like to enquire about Lady Red, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Lady Red can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet her.

Update 5/2/2009

Lady Red is having an eye operation today, paid for by her very generous fosterer. Everyone at the Oldies Club wishes her well: we will post further updates as soon as we have them.

Update 6/2/2009

Lady Red is doing well after her operation: she was a little weak at first but is now eating well. Lady Red has now been transferred to the ownership of the Oldies Club, so she can get the ongoing care and support that she needs.
