Any Recommendations Somerset/exmoor Please?

We have Ralph, disabled Parson Russell and Diggs, RDR Rescue Border Terrier. Ralph had one rear paw and part of another chewed off by mum at birth :( but he is a healthy happy boy only 2 and half years old. Now he finds it a real struggle on hard ground - so we only ever take him on rough heath, parkland or beaches. As there is often some misery on beaches who complains about dogs being off lead (Ralph runs better - in fact its hard to tell that he is disabled at all! - than he walks) we have decided on a little break with the boys but that moorland would be the best choice.

As my elderly auntie lives in Somerset and we havent seen her for a few years Exmoor would seem the best choice - we think - but we have never been there. Can anyone advise whether the dogs could run free without any probs please and if anyone knows of suitable accommodation? Thinking of going in the next couple of months. As its only going to be for a few days, cost is secondary to suitability for the boys.

Many thanks.

Yes, but need to keep a close lookout for sheep. A lot of Exmoor is fields, it's not as open as Dartmoor. Simonsbath is where we used to go for moorland walks, it's more or less in the middle of the most moorlandy bit and there are a few hotels and self catering places round there.

Dulverton is a lovely little town, but perhaps slightly less moorlandy in terms of 'straight onto the moor' walks.

Oh - didnt consider sheep being loose? Ralph LOVES sheep, horses and cows - he has to go up to field fences to be sniffed at/blown on by them. But Im not sure about the prospect of him seeing them without a fence between him and them. Thanks for that, something to certainly think about.
