emma_pen
Dear ******* (edited my name out) Many thanks for your email and apologies for the delay in responding. Yes, the RCVS is concerned about the current situation. The RCVS President Professor Sheila Crispin yesterday attended a meeting of the Dog Legislation Advisory Group (a working group that includes representatives from the British Veterinary Association, the police, the Kennel Club, Dogs Trust and other dog charities), to examine ways in which the Dangerous Dogs Act could be amended. The group feels that the approach to dangerous dogs should be more concerned with ‘deed’ rather than ‘breed’. Initiatives such as amnesties on particular breeds firmly fit with the latter approach, which we do not feel is satisfactory, not least because the issue of 'pit bull type' identification is a difficult one. I understand that some form of statement will be released by the DLAG later in the week. I will forward this to you once I have it. Best wishes Lizzie Lockett Head of Communications Communications Department Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Belgravia House 62-64 Horseferry Road London SW1P 2AF Tel: 020 7202 0725 Fax: 020 7202 0740
