Ruthi (borrowadog)
A soft formless lump has appeared in Tiger's ear. Its in the middle of the flappy bit, and deep in between the layers rather than on the surface. It doesn't seem to hurt. I rather assume that its some sort of haemorrhage, and wonder what I should do about it. Does it require a trip to the vet - or will it go of its own accord in the end? Sherlock Bones
That sounds like a haematoma, a blood clot, Ruth, pretty common. Usually they need cutting open to drain the blood. When dougal had it (as a result of a Meg bite), he also had to have a spongy thing sewn to his ear to keep it drained until it healed. Wasn't particularly pleasant as he continually shook his head because of it and it was manky for ages, presumably because it was an open wound, but no trouble since. Muriel
If it is a Haematoma, Homeopathic Hammamellis, one tablet three if 30c or four times if 6c daily will make it go down all on its very own in a day or two. From chemist/health store. If the dog has big flappy ears, that's probably what it is. Edited December 3, 2006 by Muriel
Ruthi (borrowadog)
Of course, haematoma, that was the word, LOL! I'll try the hammemalis - might even have some in my collection. Otherwise its the vets - yet again - sigh...... Ruth
