GT Agility too - Suzi got 2nds a 3rd and a clear round. What a little star, let's hope it all starts coming together at KC shows too. Dudley got 3 clears and a 3rd too but was really naughty at Vyne.

I've just been reading this thread and have to say how disgusted I am that some of you think the the poor woman is at fault when someone murdered her dogs. If this had been said somewhere else I wouldn't have been suprised but I thought better of the people here. I take part in agility with my dogs and for a part of the day they are in the car on their own where it is cooler and quieter for them, somewhere they can relax and chill out and somewhere I would hope they are safe. Everyone that competes at these shows does the same thing, it's the same at obedience shows too and I'm sure at breed shows, companion dogs shows and many other 'doggie' events around the country. I really hope that nothing like this happens ever again as I would hate for anyone else to have to go through what she's going through and then for someone to say 'Oh well it's your own fault' by some holier than thou person who knows none of the facts.

Don't know where you are but have a look on here for clubs. Agilitynet There is also the agility forum Agility Addicts There are a lot of staffies/staffie crosses that do agility and I'm sure someone on the forum may be able to help. Other than that most of agility is starts with basic training such as waits, recalls and directional commands which is something you could start doing with Sophie, try using her favourite toy and throwing it left and right and telling her the command as she does it. You could also start teaching her a stop on contacts command (which any agility person taking her would love you forever for if she could do it) You can do this on steps or stairs, put her toy or a treat at the bottom of the stairs and while she is on the lead walk her down the stairs and get her to stop at the bottom with her front feet on the floor and her back feet a stair or two up. Keep doing it on the lead until she will stop automatically when she gets there, you can use a command such as stop, or wait or look. Once she's mastered the directional commands, if you've got them, try setting up some jumps for her to do and getting her to do the left one of the right one. I do this in the wood too over logs and stuff and use the directions to tell them which path to take. Hope this makes sense but please PM me if you need anymore help.

Dudley won out of Starters at Chart yesterday winning Starters Agility. Spent the whole weekend helping run the Weave Challenge and Clever dogs stuff at Paws in the Park so am knackered today.

Thanks Shaun, it has been hard work especially when we only managed about 20 clear rounds in 2004 & 2005 combined and all he did was bite my ankles and bark at me but due to the excellent instructors I've got I think we've overcome the problems.

Little Dudley has got enough points for his Agility Warrant.

I do running contacts with both my dogs but am currently changing to 2 on 2 off with Suzi and she is normally so fast and far ahead of me I seem to be just shouting look for no real reason. With Dudley in competion I use my hand just in front of him and draw an invisible line for about 9 inches after the contact, I can do this with him as he runs with me. In training I sometimes use a target with him and sometimes don't as this seems to slow him down but speeds up Suzi. Dudey is a medium and Suzi a small, the judges don't seem to mark running contacts in their classes but the large judges seem to. Last night our instructor was telling us that we don't give the contact command soon enough when they are really flying perhaps this is what's happening with you, try giving your contact command as he's going up the A frame or half way along the dog walk. Sorry not much constructive help I'm afraid.

Little Dudley got 5 places with 6 runs at Burnham over the weekend and Suzi got a place too.

Well done you, me and Big Dudley's mum did look for you to see how you got on but couldn't find you.

That sounds about right, I give him a whole tent to sit in the shade and he comes out to get some sympathy. NED I've checked the weather and it said it was going to cool down, lets hope so.
