  1. I went to Berkshire College of Agriculture and came away with a National Diploma in Animal Management. Know what use this is? None! They tell you that it is the acceptted equivalent of so many A levels. It is my backside! Try getting a job on a National Diploma is impossible, what they dont tell you is that most employers turn around and say 'Higher National Diploma minimum'. Another few hundred pounds and two more years later... nah ah, i'd have done the HND in one go if i'd been told how hard it would be to get a job!! Be very wary! Those people lie! That said, it was a very pleasant and laid back two years, i made good friends, had a few laughs, learnt absolutely nothing... The Animal Management courses cover such a huge range of topics that you only spend one or two lessons on a topic most and thats it, you touch on topics but dont go particularly in depth, i also found it incredibly difficult, im really quite dyxlexic and one of the hardest thing is copying work down from a overhead projector, i found there was a LOT of copying going on and the choice was.. proove you're dyslexic and get the whole lot of notes or sit it out and copy it. Was 90% paper work and the following 10% was divided up between practical tests and 1 hour a week of cleaning out animal cages. To be honest, was a fun course, if i hadnt been 16 and in free education i wouldnt have paid for it, it really isnt worth it. You will also find that it is an obvious choice for 'drop outs' there were about 6-10 people out of 50 that were actually interested in the animals and the course, the course started with 50, only 30 came back in year 2... Stick away from general Animal Care or Animal Management and stick to one course on one subject that interests you and aim for an HND at least... Personally.... wish i had done the HND and then a further top up year on Zoology. Hindsight is a pain sometimes... been kicking myself for ages. (as an extra note, i did this course 3 years ago but now work with some of the newer students that say it hasnt changed). Aberystwyth is meant to be the best place to go, Sparsholt is meant to be good too but i've met people that say it isnt all its cut out to be..
  2. Liz Brown didn't much like Bella. It was obvious the poor dog was really nervous and she didnt want to walk straight because mummy was on the other side of the ring! Bella got two 6th places, one 5th place and one 4th place (best rescue, best rescue, best visitor, prettiest bitch and best brace) she did the brace with her friend Bonnie. EVERYONE around the ring was muttering and said Bella deserved prettiest bitch at least because she was, the one that won was cute but... not pretty, a black greyhound that swiped the board in the greyhound classes as well as any classes that lurchers could enter. Owner was lovely but not really fair, it won everything lol. Bella hated it, shes been out quite few times but she clamped her tail between her legs and looked sad whenever the judge came near, i've never seen Bella dislike anyone! That said!! Annette Crosby (sp) cuddled Bella and said she was the pretiest dog she had seen! Even i got a pat on the shoulder LOL.
  3. mental note, bella dog HATES dog shows! :(

  4. Hehe, shes adorable!! I'm going to be entering her in a show today at towcester racecourse that nobody seems to know about lol. She's sitting by the backdoor waiting, she loves going places, just hates the car ride!!
  5. Hey Well, its been a long while since i was last here and i know what a bunch of photo addicts you guys are so i thought a nice update with photos was in order!! When i first came here, our family had only just adopted Bella from The Dogs Trust in Newbury, she was 13 weeks old when we got her!! I wasn't convinced she was even going to be a grey hound shape she was so stubby! But now at 2.5 years old, she looks very different! (and actually has some manners!) She is ever so popular and turns heads wherever she goes! Every little show she goes in she always takes 'the dog that the judge most wants to take home' because she is such a poppet!! She is an absolute wuss, very submissive, mainly due to ending up at the vets three times after being attacked by a huge german shepherd, however only yesterday the pair of them were both playing, it did end up with bella laying on her back being submissive but a start at least! Anyhoo... Here are a couple of photos for you now! Bella in the spring crops: Jumping to get a biscuit with my brother!: Bella's best friend Bonnie the spotty dog: Bella saying "wheres all the crops gone eh?": And finally.... Bella today!:
  6. Hey I am going to 'The Greyhound Gala' at Towcester Racecourse tomorro (6th) with my mum and Bella dog and meeting up with a friend nd her loony, Bonnie Dog. The problem is, there is no real information AT ALL on the net! Or anywhere, the website tells us when and where it is and that is all, nothing more... Was wondering if anyone else knows anything about it or whats going on there, i guess stalls but what else? Its an awful long way to go and i dont know whats going to be there! Im not feeling particularly well and the though of the doggie potentially hurling up in the car or down my neck is making me feel worse! haha... though she drools more than sicks up now... Gemma
  7. Hmmm methinks maybe im too young!! LOL I got to watch all the oldies like Clangers, Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine (pshhhtecop pshhhhhtecop pshhhhtecop!!) and Bagpuss and the suchlikes, i also had the Spider In The Bath with all the videos and Moomin! I loved the Moomins! What else? Racoons!! and Cyril Sneer!
  8. I will certainly get her to contact you then she has lots of huge tanks! If you are interested, her website can be found on google at thames valley rodents ;) just incase you want to look up more about her whilst waiting for her to contact you
  9. Sorry, not from you, i didn't think to check from who it was ;) my apologies! She has a fear that you won't let her have the spinies as she is technically a rodent breeder *but* she doesn't breed the Egyptian Spiny Mice (and has no intention to breed from any animal she doesnt know its genetics). She is willing to take on the Spiny mice and rehome them herself if that is what you wish, she has taken in a good few rodent rescues and found them great homes where they are much loved! I wan't to check first with you about that issue before letting her know so she goes rushing about getting tanks ready if she isnt needed ;)
  10. I know there are several people waiting for a call back as they offered to take 20 or so spinies ;)
  11. Don't have much time by the time i have spent most of the day at work (on Alpaca farm) or playing/caring for my numerous pets and day dreaming about winning the lottery. But if i don't day dream about winning the lottery (i don't even play it!) for too long then i sometimes have time for reading, drinking and taking photos of random things, usually pets.
  12. Thanks for the link, if she starts straining again she will get xrayz but the Synulox has worked again, its just a case of making it stay that way. Bella is in luurrrrve with Cranberry juice
  13. I'm sure Bella would love all the help she could possibly get! Thank you Muriel
