  1. I'm liking the "like" button, thanks Alex
  2. Morning There may be 23 dogs in the group today!! I hope Melton is bracing itself
  3. They're lovely Rhodos Alex.
  4. Awww, thanks all. Got caught out as last night there was a frost. The cucumbers looked a bit frazzled, so they are now in ICU and perking up again.
  5. ooh, it's all noo and shiny. Thanks Pingu I hope Nog gets better soon. Glad Emily's appointment went ok Sleep tight Toffee mouse and good thoughts for Rufus. Hope you get sorted Griff Hope the nurses visit goes well Steph Hope everyone is ok, I have had a short week at work, only two days, but was wound up within half an hour of starting yesterday. Ho hum. Tomorrow we're off to Melton Mowbray for a dog walk, should be fun, loads of Labs (and Cherry! ) Plenty of splashing in water no doubt. Will have to stop off first and visit the pie and sausage shop.
  6. potting on all done, hopefully these plants will stay in these rootrainers until they're ready to plant out. Belive it or not, there are almost a hundred plants here. The big one is a volunteer "something" that I allowed to grow. Should have sent it to the lotty weeks ago, but I keep forgetting! B&Q were selling some net tunnels for £10.99 which I almost bought for a couple of containers round the side of the house. Glad I didn't now, because I made my own today for free. OK, it's not much to look at, but it does the job and uses up a few odds and ends. I will be putting rainbow chard and perpetual spinach in here. Don't know about the small container yet. I am also trying a little experiment, mingling flowers and veg in tubs. So far, little violas and lettuce. ( I had some lettuce left over from transplanting, but can't remember what they are) Need something taller for the middle. (veg) maybe spring onions or something like that?
  7. Thank you, I spend the summer battling against weeds, vermin and diseases, so anything I get, however small is a bonus. Looking forward to your pics too. I've just popped up to the allotment and transplanted some broad beans that were getting too big for their pots.
  8. Hi Sara, and welcome to the veggie plot! I wonder if it was wireworm that ate your potatoes? Thwy do seem to be a problem if the land hasn't been cultivated for a while. There are some threads on it here: http://chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=62160.0 http://chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=14587.0 I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get something for my efforts too, mice, weather, birds and beasties permitting. good idea.
  9. Yes indeed! Seed disks sound interesting, what are they? I bought some more Rootrainers today from B&Q. I bought some at the edible garden show, after getting the low down on them from an old chap. I'm hoping they will last a few years and save space till planting out time, as one tray holds 32 plants.
  10. Morning No Allotment this morning, we're off for a walk by some water. Keith saw the place out on his travels, so it will be somewhere different for us. Happy Easter everyone, from all of us here! Poor Cherry, the band was too big for her head and started slipping down.We just made it with this pic.
  11. The allotments are just up the road from us, on Shilton lane. We don't sell stuff, but we do swap between ourselves and give away excesses. Sorry you are feeling rubbish, hope the AB's kick in soon. Keith bought the latest Jonny English DVD, but Shrek is on the telly, so we're watching that.
  12. Well, it appears that Keith has popped out to Asda without me. I thought he had gone upstairs, but then I noticed that the car had gone. Ah well, time for another cuppa and feet up moment.
  13. Ah well, it was good while it lasted. Fresh made quiche is gorgeous. Sorry about the tourists An interesting combination Jazz. We went food shopping, but I was really not in the mood for it, so we came back with lots of snacks Went to the lottie quite late and finished planting the potatoes. So glad it's done as they take up the bulk of the space. Just poping out now to see if we can get a video for this evening. Jack and Cherry had two huge bones each while at the allotment and didn't stop chewing the whole time. They are now spark out.
  14. Yep, we uncovered part of it to grow more squash plants and more potatoes. Seemed like a good idea in the autumn when there was little else to do. The new potao bed is about 10 x 8. Not big really, but useful. Excuse me but..... :partytime: All the potatoes are in! Good job done. It did get easier as we got a bit more organised about it. Also, the ground was better where we had planted last year. Hope the mice don't eat everything, we saw one in the compost heap!! I have, however made a bit of a task for myself by planting the broad beans and peas in modules though. I will try and stagger the planting out as there may be over 150 plants!
  15. Thanks Marion. All our plot neighbours were there too yesterday, beavering away. Lots of chatting going on (hence, less digging! ) One of them gave us some rhubarb, so I am going to make a crumble.
  16. I hopre you can get sorted Fran Lovely video Alex, I loved the tail wagging. Hmm, raining here, so plan B until it stops. Plan B involves drinking more tea, then doing a bit of food shopping.
  17. That's a shame Marion, we didn't have to wait at all and there are still some vacancies here. Good day on the lotty yesterday, anothe nine rows of tatties in. There's five rows to go, but we ran out of energy (and tea!). In total, there will be 142 potaoes planted, including two in a bag at home. I have loads left though, so i might be gifting them to someone. We have: Lord Rosebery Lady Chrystal Charlotte Cara Maxine. The hardest bit to dig was the new patch, as it hadn't been used for years. Nearly done though, so quite pleased. Here are a few rows of Charlotte.
  18. Hello Sandra, good luck with the fruit I have a couple of blueberry bushes in tubs and this is the first year I am expecting to get fruit from them. Also have rhubarb at the lotty, but next year is the first year to expect to pick that. Glad everything is good for your greenhouse and plants Mags I have had to try some damage limitation on my seedlings with this strange weather. Outside ones had to go back inside when the frosts came, but now it's sunny again, so they should be back out. It's a bit of a merry go round! Off to the lotty to try and plant some tatties, so I may be aching a bit later
  19. Morning Lots of :GroupHug: for everyone. Seems like there are many of you who need them and I don't want to miss anyone out. Another difficult week at work, mainly taken up by one resident, trying to liaise with different agencies on his behalf, despite the social worker refusing to do anything. She actually said in an email that she had only been "doing me a favour" in having anything to do with me at all, before basically washing her hands of the whole thing. My boss couldn't believe it, but I am used to this now. Anyhoo, it's a lovely day here, so I'm off to the lotty to plant my tatties.
  20. Happy birthday Wispa Well done Wispa and Nala. I hope bones will be caught soon. So sorry about your mum Snow. We had a great time at Broadway with all the lovely dogs. I took this birthday portrait of Jack.
  21. Pinch punch and happy unofficial tenth birthday to Jack!
  22. Thanks Marion, That's a good idea, we have been using 5 litre containers so far. I haven't watered anything that is established, as there is water at root level and further down. My concerns are the seeds and the onion sets because there has been no rain since they went in. There is rain forecast soon though, so hopefully they will grow.
  23. Good idea Mags. They will probably germinate a lot quicker now there is more daylight and will race ahead once the day and night temperatures warm up.
  24. I thought we had killed the rhubarb, but it's coming up a treat now. my seedlings are at the tiny stage. Won't be long before I look and they're huge! There doesn't seem to be an inbetween Bit poor up the lotty too. The water doesn't go on until April, so we've been using water from our butt and it's almost gone Good idea about the cot door Mags. If I didn't have the wayward magpie, something like that would be good here too. The blummin' thing had a go at Cherry on Saturday! Up and down the garden three times they went.
