  1. Morning all, snow heavy here to start with but has melted now. I'm feeling a bit better and think it wasn't gastric flu but results of taking antibiotics which I don't normally risk. But I had a really deep dog bite last Saturday (not one of my sweeties I hasten to add) and the emergency doc weighed up the pros and cons and we decided to risk penicillin which makes me less ill than other ABs. Had to stop treatment on Wednesday though, still feeling effect of the stuff I think. Injury healing well anyway. Anyway, had an amazing email out of the blue which is like a kind of miracle. I logged on to a WWII RAF old comrades site and left a message that I would love to hear from anyone who knew my late father. He was killed in action before I was born so I don't know all that much about him. He and my mum were only married for 6 months and never had a home together or even saw each other much, a common happening in wartime. The only survivor when his plane was shot down was the pilot, a New Zealander. This man saw my message on the site and replied to me! He didn't keep in touch with the families of his comrades because he felt it was a kind of insult to them that he was alive and well when they had lost their sons.
  2. Well you get to snigger a bit more, Sam Squirrel, because there was nothing wrong with my keyboard. It is me who is stupid and an IT numpty. Partner's fault anyway, as he has been using my computer while his is away and had left it doing strange stuff called macros which operated from those keys. Please leave this equipment as you found it, mate! My tummy is feeling rather less awful, must get better for transporting on Sat morning
  3. I have been feeling poorly with sikness and kramps all evening and the letter after B doesn't work on my keyboard. Neither does the letter eks so no kisses for anyone. Or the last letter of the alphabet but I don't use that often. Perhaps I kaught the tummy bug from someone on here - kan a virus travel on the internet? And the big komputer is very poorly and has been rushed to komputer hospital in Kardigan, so only have my old laptop and kannot get it mended until big one bak home or we would have no internet aksess. Nite all.
  4. On second thoughts, it may have paid a brief visit early this morning as I jumped out of bed at 6.30 and actually did a load of - aargh - housework. My motivation never does that kind of thing so it must have been yours. I am now of course shattered.
  5. It isn't at my house, that's for sure
  6. I have just been talking to the lady. She is regularly in touch with all the necessary people. The dog was dumped and spotted wandering in December and she has been trying to catch him ever since but hasn't seen him for a week or two now. The other one which has just appeared we think is a bitch who ran off from a new home on 16 January. Very scared and not so far taking food.
  7. That's my idea of a proper Sunday roast. Can I come over to yours next Sunday please?
  8. A cream saluki type bitch legged it from a new home in Peterborough area last month. This was a Lurchersearch dog and I have informed Lurchersearch about these 2 now.
  9. Hi and welcome, susieq I will immediately start crossposting this around and will get it put on Doglost (I am one of the admin there) and inform Lurchersearch. Please may we have a contact number e.g. a mobile? If not, we can use my number and the Doglost office number, and Lurchersearch always refer people to their own number anyway. But in any case we need a number to get hold of you even if we keep it private. Just off the top of my head, I can think of at least two gone awol in that part of Lincs, and of course they could have been dumped from elsewhere.
  10. I am not about to discuss any other forum here as my personal experiences have left me with some very strong views. However, this forum has not been going for long and already has done wonders on the transport, poundie and urgent fostering side, and doubtless heaps of other things I don't know about. I have made a number of very helpful connections, and also got a couple of poundies to safety. Rehoming to the general public may be a bit slower and less active, but networking among rescuers, supporters, transporters etc is very good. I am sure that as membership increases, so will the immediate rehomings through the board. The rehomings currently happening seem to be at 2nd and 3rd remove and are less immediately obvious.
  11. I have heard that theory, krusewalker. There was a book published about 3 years ago saying the British people who we generally think of as Celts were not Celts at all. You should have seen the articles and letters in the Western Mail I missed the programme, maybe it will be on digital. I personally am not about to inform my neighbours tomorrow that they are not Celts, whatever the evidence
  12. to Loobie, so sorry. Last walk, feed snails and hamster and then off to bed - early start tomorrow which means unless I have about 6 alarms on I will stay awake and worry about oversleeping and missing my connection in mid-Wales at 11 a.m. Just got my new radio fitted in the car, have been without for ages since old one bust. Hope mad border collies like "Sounds of the 60s". nite all
  13. Woe is meee! One of the pulis has the dire rear And yes, it would be the full coat one, not the clipped one. Luckily she was out in the garden when it struck. She felt a lot better afterwards. I can't say I did Good thing I have a huge multipack of kitchen rolls. She is all clean and cheerful now, but I am worried it may happen tomorrow while I am out on a transport run. Thanks goodness for stone floors.
  14. That is EXCRUCIATING Thank you, I can use that to annoy people with all day
  15. Thanks for putting this up for me, PrincessC. Just found out Florence belongs to Lionel Blair and his wife. The Sun and Daily Mirror did pieces yesterday and there is an item on ITV news at 12.45 today. So I think everyone will know about her pretty soon and hopefully she will turn up somewhere before the ear infection gets worse.
  16. Hi Sam Squiggs I've been asleep and woke up and started on the PC - fatal. Now wide awake and hungry. That band of rain may be the one which dunked us earlier. All is still and quiet after the storm. Of to get a snack then hopefully some more sleep. Hope the rest of your shift goes OK and have a good journey home.
  17. to Trudi and kats incs Nan and anyone else who needs them and welcome back Phoenyx. The forecast storm tonight has just hit us out west pretty hard, so batten down the hatches folks and secure any lightweight lurchers to the nearest rottweiler! Been a hectic but remarkably good day thanks to help from foxygirl, the oldies club, biggsd, Vigil, BC Trust and a few others. Great big valentines to all of them and a great relief to me that some dogs currently under my wing will be moving on soon. Off to bed early I think.
  18. Phebe living in West Wales (15 miles N of Cardigan) with partner Chi, pulis Humphrey nearly 12 and Polly 10, Fenella the very small black lionhead type bunny age unknown, Strawberry hamster aged 3 and a disorderly gang of giant snails. I do transport, bits of rescue, lost and found - general dogsbody
  19. My sympathy to you both Run free, lovely old fella
  20. Hi, I've been helping a bit with this one and can explain the missing entry. Doglost has mailed all the helpers in Devon with the details Rhoni put up at the start of this thread and some specific instructions, but we decided to keep Orla off the main site as it is a very public one and can be seen by people who aren't registered helpers. A very much abbreviated version with just a statement that she was lost from the station went up due to a misunderstanding, but I saw it and got it removed at once so it was only there very briefly. We don't want to risk Orla being taken off the street, so please put the word around - if you see her, don't do anything to arouse the person's suspicions but observe discreetly and phone the numbers given, or you can use mine 07973 273838 if by any chance you don't immediately get an answer from either of those. Re posters, not doing these at present for the same reason, please check with labradorsmum before taking any action other than telling appropriate people you know to look out for her.
  21. No. But she may have been picked up and taken out of the area, so eyes are still being kept peeled for her.
  22. Probably not the same lab, according to Lost Labs people who have seen photos of both.
